Walk In My Shoes

During the revolutionary time of music of the late 80’s early 90s period lead to beginning of
alternative rock with bands like the Cure , the Smiths and especially the highly popular band
Depeche Mode to which captivated alternative rock as a popular music genre. Combined with
sync and wave music Depeche Mode had created alternative rock music. The band became
popular with their first song called Can’t Get Enough in 1981 when releasing their first album
Speak and Spell . That star rocketed them to fandom in the U.S and U.K. and from on then
Depeche Mode made some of the greatest songs the 80’s and 90’s had ever produce. Songs like
Never Let Me Down, Personal Jesus and Enjoy the Silence became top rating songs. In 1993
Depeche Mode released a song called Walking In My Shoes. Now Depeche Mode is known for
there dark and unique style of music videos that were new and unorthodox videos that the 80s
and 90’s were not use to. Anyway this song comes up in the 1993 and isn’t a hit and to me this
song is underrated because this song has so many elements that are similar and are equally
compared to there other top song.

Walking in my shoes literally means the expression walk in my shoes. The song explains how not
to judge someone based on what you hear or assume because that is only just one side of the
story. Since you don’t know what that person been through and how easy people judge
someone based on what they hear about someone. Lyrics saying “ I would tell you about the
things they put me through and the pain I’ve been subjected to but the lord himself would
blush”. Then going in to say “I’m not looking for absolution or “ forgiveness” but before you
come to any conclusions try walking in my shoes” . ”You'll stumble on my footsteps and keep
the same appointments I did . Again it tells you the literal idea what the message of the song is
and in this case is very rare for Depeche Mode to do because there songs and song videos tend to
show something else then the actual meaning of the song. This is why is song is so underrated
because it has the same elements of other of their songs. From style of the song and to the dark
tone and message of the song. Yet this song isn’t appreciated for the effort the band put in this
song as they have the same for the other of their major hits of song they have done. I just don’t
get how the band released similar songs like this one and people were used to but not this one.

This song is a top rated hit but some reason it didn’t get the accolade it was supposed to get. It's
similar to all the other song Depeche Mode has written and so people should be already to know
what to expect from this song because these songs they release are literally the same. Never Let
Me Down is the message of heroin abuse and about Enjoy the Silence. Personal Jesus is about
selfless love during struggle . However we don’t know that by the listening to it. However to
Walk in My Shoes we can and which was first of the band to do so. Finally a Depeche Mode
song that fans can understand from the lyrics and even the music video instead of fans arguing
and inferring what the true actually meaning of the song is. I don’t know what factors lead to this
song not being popular maybe it has to do with the music video being scandalous by shwoing
sexulaizng material in relationship with church.Depechce Mode was one of the first major bands
that done this, normally new rock and grunge bands were the first to do this in the 90’s like Alice
in Chains with their hit song Man in The Box but they weren’t popular at the time but Depeche
Mode was. Maybe this was the cause of downfall of this song , maybe it didn’t go right with
people who were religious or even somewhat religious.

Depeche Mode is one of the top mid 80's early 90s band. It lead to synch, grunge and
alternative rock music to rise .It had major popular songs back to back until 1993. The band
struggle with there demons and expressed most of it through there songs until Walk in MY
Shoes was released the final song to their story. It's like the Wall by Pink Floyd and how each
song in that album is step for Rogers Waters to build a wall around him and then free himself
isolation . That's how Depeche Mode did and how to express about addiction and then express
it again and the freedom and hope in another song and then having the final song “ Walk In My
Shoes “ to express how not judge one person past and past actions especially there addictions .
This final songs express not to judge someone for certain things they did that were bad and be
so quickly to judge them. If you don’t understand the Pink Floyd example then it's like how each
song is like a end credit scene from each movie leading up to Avengers Endgame. I don’t know
why Walk in My Shoes really never got its recognition it deserved among top Depeche Mode
songs. It really should , it is equivalent to other Depeche Mode songs because it does show the
same raw pure emotions Depeche Mode puts in there songs.

The reason I like this song is because I can relate to it. Certain events that have happened to
me in my life that put a negative reputation on me and how quickly people around me judged
me based on that. Even though the rumors ,those information about me isn’t true because they
only know one side of the situation and not my side. People judging me based off someone else
opinion who hates me with a pure hearted passion . This song is an act example of what I’ve
been through. The lyrics literally sum up my situations and the things that happened and how I
really feel because of it. People usually listen to music they can relate to and this is one I can
relate to myself.
