Concept(s): (What specific concepts/ideas will the children learn from completing this activity? Concepts learned may be directly related to the theme, as
well as indirectly teaching something else.)
The learner will:
● Recognize numbers and the names of them
● Be able to count in a sequence
● Match a number to a set of objects
Objective(s): (Remember to include all three parts for each objective: what the children will be given, what they will do with what they’re given, and to
what level they’ll be able to complete the activity.)
The little jags will be able to recognize the number on their paper and glue the
corresponding amount of starfish on their paper.
Materials Needed to Complete This Activity
Preparation: (What do you need to do to prepare for this activity BEFORE the children arrive?)
Print out 8-9 pictures of sand on a beach. Write a number ranging from 3-6 on each paper with a
marker. Print out pictures of starfish and cut them out. Set up 8-9 pieces of paper (one for each
kid) that looks like sand with a number on each one. Set up a pile of papers shaped as starfish in
the middle of the table. Place glue sponges and markers in the middle of the table as well.
Procedures: (In great detail, explain how to complete the activity. Your instructions should be good enough for someone else to teach the activity if
you are not here.)
Explain to the kids that they are going to glue starfish onto their paper and the number of starfish
that they glue should correspond with the number on their paper. Instruct the kids to use the
glue sponges to put the glue on their paper and to place the starfish over the spot of glue.
I will make sure that all of the kids glued the correct amount of starfish onto their paper. The kids’
finished project will be a shore with starfish on it. I will instruct the kids to put their names on the
back and place their paper on the drying rack.
