INDONESIA COFFE BEANS :
The Quantity, Quality, and Specialty toward Global Competitiveness

World coffee production from 2013-2014 with the highest amount of coffee
pruction occupied by Brazil, Vietnam, Colombia, and Indonesia. Uniquely, even
though Vietnam has a smaller plantation area than Indonesia, the coffee
production is ranked as the second world number. It happens not because
Indonesian coffee has a low quality. Indonesian coffee has a distinctive flavor and
it has been recognized by the world. Indonesian coffee has also been promoted in
the world market, but because of the small production of Indonesian coffee and
not able to meet the needs of the world market. It makes it as if drowning in the
world market. As the consumption rate of the world community on coffee
continues to increase.
Vietnam which has only land area 589,041 Ha or 6.21% narrower than
Indonesia which has a land area of 1,230,500 Ha or 12.98% of the world's coffee
land. Unable to defeat Vietnam which is able to produce coffee approximately
1,672,356 tons annually. With land that is not so wide but able to produce more
coffee than Indonesia and able to rank two of the world's largest coffee
production. Perhaps it is caused by the fertile land of Vietnam and the
management of good coffee crops, so it is able to produce a lot of coffee.
Although the quality of Indonesian coffee has been recognized the world, but
not able to meet the needs of the world market. It will make Indonesia sink in the
world's coffee market. If the coffee production is seen in Indonesia, there are six
provinces that are able to produce coffee with good quality and able to translucent
to the world market, namely Maluku and Papua, Sulawesi, Kalimantan, Nusa
Tenggara and Bali, Java, and Sumatra. Sumatra is a province that produces the
most of Robusta and Arabica coffee, with Gayo coffee which is widely recognized
by the people of the world. Then Sulawesi is the most abundant arabica coffee
producing province number two after Sumatra. Even though Java is not so much
to Menghaslkan coffee and arabica than the province of Sumatra and Sulawesi.
However, there is a type of coffee from Java, especially the world-recognized
Bondowoso Regency namely Arabica Java Ijen Raung Coffee that has been able
to penetrate Europe.
Coffee Arabica Java Ijen Raung that has been able to penetrate the world
market has several obstacles to its management. Either the obstacles faced by
farmers or the constraints of the coffee crop itself. Some obstacles include a
coffee plant that is old and unhealthy, so it is not able to produce coffee with good
quality. Varieties of coffee that is not suitable planted in several places, making
crops become damaged and maintenance less good by farmers. Or even because
of soil conditions that are less fertile, fertilizers are less good. It was all a problem
to produce coffee with good quality. In addition to soil fertility conditions, the
provision of fertilizer is lacking or the lack of match varieties to the condition of
the soil planted with coffee. There is also a problem of decline in the quality Java
coffee Ijen Raung, namely in the process of coffee processing is harvested. One of
them is that when the fermentation process is less good and less optimal it will
produce poor coffee or low quality.
