KMC DONATES FARM EQUIPMENT TO COLLEGE - Kelley Manufacturing Company (KMC) has donated more equipment to
the J.G. Woodroof Farm at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Dr. Mark Kistler, Dean of the School of Agriculture and Natural
Resources at ABAC, said KMC has donated a new KMC 4R Rip Strip. Kisler said, “It’s the latest that KMC has,” “When they
develop something new, they’ll bring it out here and replace what we have. KMC CEO Lanier Carson, a longtime supporter of the
college, said the company is always willing to help ABAC. Carson said. “Technology is always changing. Any way that we can help,
we’re going to do it because we want an education in agriculture at ABAC to be the best it can be.”
NO MORE PEANUT MILK - Elmhurst™ has announced the discontinuation of its line of peanut products on April 10, effective
immediately. This includes Milked Peanuts-Chocolate®, Chocolate Peanut Protein and Vanilla Protein Shakes. Production of
Milked Peanuts-Original® was halted at end of 2018. “We made this tough decision based on manufacturing difficulties involving
peanuts,” Elmhurst said in a statement to its customers. “By removing this ingredient from our portfolio, we will create more
capacity—both in research and production—for the exploration of new, innovative products.”
“Our farm families and staff are disappointed, but we still believe a peanut milk product would be welcomed by consumers
who enjoy alternative milks,” said Bob Parker, president and CEO of the National Peanut Board (NPB). “We are confident that a
peanut milk product with an equivalent nutrition profile to dairy milk; with the same amounts of protein, calcium, Vitamin D and
other fortification, at a price point competitive with existing alternative nut milks would be a success.” Parker said NPB plans to
contact other makers of alternative milks to draw attention to and continue to generate interest in peanut milk products. For info,
contact the National Peanut Board at (678) 242-5750 or (866-825-7946-toll free).
PEANUT HARVEST IN ARGENTINA CONTINUES – Weather conditions this week in Argentina allowed the peanut digging
process to continue, now estimated at 70-80%, however, harvest is only about 5%. Relative humidity is high and harvest remained
slow waiting for the dew to dry each day. The good growing crop produced a lot of leaf mass and that hinders the harvest machines,
so threshing is slower. A mass of polar air has entered the central region which generated cloudiness, some drizzles and some
predicting the possibility of the first major frost. Another report states that the Cordoba region area is 41% dug and frost in this area
has already occurred. One reports that the crop will produce 44% more than last season.
URGING CONGRESS TO SUPPORT TRADE PROMOTIONS - The Market Access Program (MAP) uses funds from the
Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) to aid in the creation, expansion, and maintenance of international markets for U.S. agricultural
products. MAP forms a partnership between non-profit U.S. agricultural trade associations, farmer cooperatives, non-profit state-
regional trade groups, small businesses, and USDA to share the costs of overseas marketing and promotional activities such as market
research, trade shows, trade servicing, retail/educational promotions, technical assistance, and consumer promotions. THE
COALITION TO PROMOTE U.S. AGRICULTURAL EXPORTS STRONGLY URGES CONGRESS TO PROVIDE $255
MILLION FOR AGRICULTURAL TRADE PROMOTION AND FACILITATION. BY DOING SO, MAP WILL BE
FUNDED AT NO LESS THAN $200 MILLION, AS AUTHORIZED IN THE 2018 FARM BILL.
