Principled Technologies Updates Report Comparing the Durability of Three

Chromebooks from Dell, HP, and Lenovo

In a hands-on testing update, Principled Technologies (PT) found that the Dell Chromebook 3100
survived more hinge cycles and more micro-drops than the HP Chromebook 11 G6 EE and the
Lenovo 100e Chromebook.

Durham, NC, May 22, 2019 --(PR.com)-- As municipal governments and school systems across the US
prepare their annual budgets, they must consider adding or upgrading technology in their classrooms.
More durable Chromebooks can offer schools a better investment by potentially alleviating repair and
replacement expenditures. PT released a study that put three Chromebooks - a Dell Chromebook 3100, an
HP Chromebook 11 G6EE, and a Lenovo 100e Chromebook - through a series of durability tests
featuring hinge cycles (opening and closing the devices) and micro-drops (from about four inches high).
These are common things that students are likely to do to their Chromebooks throughout the school day.
(A PT study from February compared the HP and Lenovo Chromebooks to the Dell Chromebook 5190 in
the same testing scenario.)

According to the new PT report, “The Dell Chromebook 3100 was more durable - it withstood more
micro-drops and hinge cycles than the other two Chromebooks. In fact, the Dell Chromebook 3100
showed only slight damage well after the Lenovo and HP Chromebooks became non-functional.”
