Future House with Renewable Energy Sources:

1. Heating and Cooling: Geothermal energy, I believe can really help give a renewable source of
energy in many places. Because it is derived from heat, it can also be used to heat homes. It’s
cheap, and there is little pollution that it creates. For places that cannot use geothermal energy,
solar power, although more expensive, can be a wonderful alternative for producing heat.
2. Hot Water: Geothermal energy can be used to provide heat and electricity to homes, and
harnessing the heat it provides can be used to heat water. Also heat provided by solar energy
could be harnessed to heat water as well.
3. Electricity: Already, many people with homes use solar energy to power their electricity. I think
in a future home; we can become more dependent on solar energy. One of the problems that
we face when using solar energy is the fact it is expensive. Hopefully, with new designs for
harnessing solar energy will make it more inexpensive to use it for electricity in more homes.
Another form of electricity form we can use in hydroelectric power. In places with less sun, or
just more water, a more convenient energy source might be hydroelectricity. It would allow the
sources of water nearby to power homes living near it.

Analyze and Conclude:

Which renewable energy sources did you use in your home?

I used mostly solar energy for my home, but provided the alternative of geothermal energy or
hydroelectric energy, because there are places that cannot support geothermal or hydroelectric energy.

What are the advantages of using renewable energy sources instead of fossil fuels?
Fossil fuels take a very long time to renew themselves, and will eventually run out. They are also a large
cause of pollution. So using clean, renewable sources of energy would be important in keeping the Earth
clean and

Which renewable energy sources did you not include in your designs? Why didn’t you use them?
I did not include wind or garbage power. Wind power, I think can be very useful. Like geothermal and
hydroelectric, they are only really useful in places that are constantly windy. Garbage power can be very
useful at a mass extent and is great for renewable energy, but they also cause more air pollution. I
thought it would be better to have the cleaner renewable energy options in my future home.

Do you think people in the future will have homes like the ones you designed? Why or why not?
I think more homes will become efficient and more inexpensive with solar energy like I listed. Millions of
people are already using it, and I think we will continue to use solar energy. Also, I think natural forms of
heat will be harnessed more in the future to heat things without harming the planet.
