INTRODUCTION

A. Background of Study

English is one of the important languages. In Indonesian the students of

junior high school, senior high school, and college students learn English. It is

also one of the compulsory lesson that teacher teaches in Indonesian schools.

Learning English we have to know four skills ; Reading, Speaking, Listening and

Writing. The students or the people that want to get more vocabulary in English.

They can start with reading and listening skills. They can do the both of the skill

by watching movie English.

Movie is a series of moving picture recorded with sound that tells a story.

Hornby (967). Movie also called film. Film resemble painting, music, literature,

and the dance. Rudolf Arnheim (8). Literature have two kind of sub genre. There

are fiction and non fiction. Literature is the pieces of writing that are valued as

works of art. Hornby (869). Movie is one of literature work. Other part in

literature work such as novels, poetry, prose, and other. In general literary work is

a work is formed of authour’s imagination or something has happened in the

human’s life. Many function of literary work that we can be found. Some function

of literary work is to entertain or teach someting to people. The story in movie

can be adapt from literary work. In the story of movie the audience will be found

characters.
 “Characters are the persons represented in drama or narrative work,who are

intrepreted by the reader as being endowed with particular moral,intellectual, and

emotional qualities by inferences from what the persons say and their distinctive

ways of sayong it the dialogueIn and from what the do the action”. M.H. Abrams

(32-33). Characters in movie mostly had problem. The problem can be conflict.

Conflict is tension in situation between characters, or the actual opposition of

characters. J. A. Cuddon (175). The confilct in story usually divided into internal

conflict and external conflict. Character had an important role in the movie to

determine theme,setting,plot and other in a story. It is most importan because

withtout it the story in movie can not describe to audiens. The authour usually

described the characters in protagonist and antagonist. In the story of movie had

main character and supporting character. The main character is the person that

always taken precedence.

In this study the researcher want to analyze the Coco Movie. The movie

was released in the United States on November 22 2017 and in Indonesia on

November 24 2017. It was made by Pixar and was released by Walt Disney

Pictures. It also is directed by Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina and stars the

voices of Anthony Gonzalez and Benjamin Bratt. This movie concept was

inspired by Mexican Day of the Dead holiyday. The researcher really interesting

with movie because the reason, the researcher want to analyze the movie. The

researcher focus to see the inner conflict of the main character in the Coco movie.
B. Problem Identification

Based on “Coco” movie . The researcher identified some problems related to the

study are follows :

1. Who is the main character in the Coco Movie ?

2. Why the main character is important in the movie ?

3. How does the main character solve the problem?

4. What are the inner conflict of main character ?

5. What are the factors that influenced the inner conflict of main character?

6. How does the main character influence the movie ?

7. How many is character founding in the movie ?

8. How does the other character support the main character in movie ?

9. How the movie influence the audience ?

10. Why the supporting character is important?

C. Focus on Study

Based on the Coco Movie, the researcher only focuses on two problems.

The two problems as follows :

1. The Main Character in the Coco Movie.

2. The Inner Conflict of main character in the Coco Movie .

D. Research Questions

According to the focus of study above, the research question are written as

follows :

1. Who is the main character in the Coco Movie ?

2. What are the Inner Conflict of main character in the Coco Movie?
E. Objective of The Study

Relates to the problems above, the objective of this research are :

1. To indicate the main character in the Coco Movie.

2. To indicate the inner Conflict of main character in the Coco Movie.

F. Significance of The Study

This research aims giving and improving the students in college or school

knowledge about literary appreciation generally. This research also can be used as

a material for teachers to teach literature. This research is talking about inner

conflict in main character of the Coco movie, It can be used as a reference for the

other researcher that want to know about inner conflict of main character or about

literature.
