ABSTRACT

Hypertension is a serious health problem which has a high mortality and

morbidity rate. Patients’ degree of knowledge on hypertension varies. Most of
them still haven’t comprehended about hypertension, its symptoms, and risk
factors. Hypertension medications and lifestyle modification are the fastest way to
lower blood pressure and eventually reduce hypertension incident rate. Six
percent of adult mortality in the world is caused by hypertension. The highest
prevalence rate of hypertension in Indonesia, which was about 37.4%, was in
East Java. In Lima Puluh Puskesmas in Kecamatan Lima Puluh Batu Bara
district, there were 260 hypertensive patients throughout January 2011. The
purpose of this study is to acknowledge the degree of knowledge on hypertension
and the act of hypertension treatment in hypertensive patients. This study was
conducted in February with descriptive manner and the sample size of 31 people.
Instrument used in this study is questionnaire about the degree of knowledge and
the act of hypertension treatment. The results are that majority of their degree of
knowledge on hypertension are still low (51.6%) and their act of hypertension
treatment are also low (80.6%). In conclusion, the need of health promotion by
local health care provider and other parties are crucial. Routine blood-pressure
monitoring and supportive counseling can therefore reduce the mortality rate of
hypertensive patients.

 ABSTRAK

Hipertensi merupakan masalah kesehatan yang serius yang dapat

mengakibatkan kematian dan kesakitan. Tingkat pengetahuan penderita tentang
hipertensi bervariasi. Sebagian penderita kurang memahami penyakit hipertensi,
gejala, serta faktor resikonya. Padahal, pemberian obat hipertensi dan modifikasi
gaya hidup adalah cara yang paling cepat dalam menurunkan tekanan darah atau
menghindari kejadian hipertensi. Enam persen dari kematian penduduk dewasa di
dunia disebabkan hipertensi. Prevalensi terbanyak hipertensi di Indonesia berada
di Jawa Timur , yaitu sebanyak 37,4%. Di Puskesmas Lima Puluh Kecamatan
Lima Puluh Kabupaten Batu Bara terdapat pasien hipertensi sebanyak 260 orang
pada sepanjang bulan Januari 2011. Tujuan penelitian mengetahui gambaran
tingkat pengetahuan hipertensi dan tindakan pengobatan hipertensi pada penderita
hipertensi. Metode penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif dengan besar sampel sebanyak
31 orang. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan februari yang bersifat deskriptif.
Instrumen penelitian ini berupa kuesioner tentang pengetahuan hipertensi dan
tindakan pengobatan hipertensi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas
tingkat pengetahuan responden mengenai hipertensi masih kurang yaitu sebanyak
51,6% dan mayoritas tindakan pengobatan responden mengenai hipertensi
tergolong kurang yaitu sebanyak 80,6%. Sebagai kesimpulan, promosi kesehatan
oleh petugas kesehatan lokal dan pihak lain sangatlah penting. Pengukuran
tekanan darah secara rutin dan konseling suportif diharapkan dapat menurunkan
tingkat mortalitas penderita hipertensi.
