5 (17-20) – Exemplary – shows great control of movement and dynamics in transiting dance
sequence. Moves to music with sustained and smooth quality. Shows tension, strength and power
when necessary. Timing and pacing was consistent throughout the dance. Expresses fluency of
movements though sharp and soft actions. Demonstrates activeness and confidence in performing
towards an audience while maintain the role of a performer.

4 (13-16) – High – Shows great control of movement and dynamics for most of the time. Sustain
quality of movement with energy, strength and power when necessary. Timing is consistent for the
majority of the dance. Fluency is strongly developed. Demonstrates activeness and confidence in
performing towards an audience.

3 (9-12)– Credit – Shows understanding and knowledge of control through movement and dynamics
for most of the time. Sustains quality of movement even when not completely memorised. Timing is
accurate for the majority of the song. Attempts to perform with motivation and dedication.

2 (5-8) – Sound – Developing understanding of choreography. Able to enact certain routine and
sequences in reference towards the song and choreography. Attempts to keep up with pacing and
timing. Students look towards the audience from time to time.

1 (1-4) – Basic – Unable to enact dance sequence with concise movement. Dance shows limited
energy and power. Routine is not memorised. Timing and pacing is meeting towards the song.
Attempts to continue the performance. Looks down while performing.
Dance Formative Rubric

Action – Looking for sequence of dance routine. Includes locomotor and non-locomotor
movement. Examine body shapes, movement of body and how the body and movement is
coordinated together.
Dynamics – Refers to the quality of dance. This includes the effort being made. Involves how
the movement was carried out.

Time – connection between the body and time. Includes pacing, speed and accuracy.

Structure/fluency – Give unity and form to dance according to the intention. Connects dance
sequence together. Performs with structure which relates to action, dynamics, time etc.
Confidence – Engages the audience strongly. Express creativity through dance with
confidence.
