25th /26thMay 2019 – 6th Sunday of Easter

Dear Parishioners,
As you read these words, we should
have completed the Camino and be arriving
in Santiago de Compostela. The following
are a few words telling have we get on:
(Hopefully we will send a few texts to give
details of progress).
The scripture readings give the
message: Acts of the Apostles: from the very
beginning, the members of the early church
had to struggle and debate in order to reach
a clear understanding of what faith
demanded. The Holy Spirit was present to
guide and strengthen. The basic debate was
whether the new christians had to accept
Jewish practices before being accepted as
Christians. “It has been decided by the Holy
Spirit and by ourselves not to saddle you
with any burden beyond those essentials”.
You are to abstain from food, sacrificed to
idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled
animals and from fornication …”. “Avoid
these, and y ou will do what is right”.
This outcome from Jerusalem was a
key moment in the early church. Paul and
Barnabas had been preaching the word to
the Gentilees/pagans; many of the apostles
especially Peter and James were in
Jerusalem. During this time Saints Peter and
Paul has a public argument when Paul told
Peter he was wrong in his activity. But in the
end all was resolved and they got on with
spreading the Word of God.
The Gospel of John is full of hope and
the promise of the Holy Spirit. “If any one
loves me … we shall make our home in him
… but the advocate (the Holy Spirit) whom
the Father will send in my name, will teeach
you everything and REMIND you of all I
have said to you”. Just like the early
disciples, we too need to be reminded again
and again of the message of Jesus. The Word
of God needs to be heard, meditated on;
made our own, again and again.
This coming week, as we celebrate the
feast of the Ascension and look forward to
Pentecost, we try to be open to welcoming
the Holy Spirit into our lives.

– a Holy Day of Obligation: Masses 9:15am
and 7:30pm.

SPONSORED WALK
Fr Joe, Sr. Devy and several parishioners
are embarking on a Camino Walk during
their pilgrimage to Santiago Compostela
from Monday 20th –Sunday 26th May 2019.
Let us support them in their Camino Walk
by sponsoring them and pray they have a
safe return.

HOLIDAY WALK
On Bank Holiday Monday 27th May 2019
Come and join us for all or part of the walk
and to collect sponsorships for a particular
charity or for the Haringey Refugee House.
We hope for a good turnout from each
parish. We will have different activities and
moments of prayer during the day.
