There have never been a time where you cannot help people who are in need, it just takes

an effort, compassion and passion to do it. The students and professors from the Philippine
Institute of Chemical Engineers Junior Chapter Batangas clearly showed that they got what it
takes to help other people.

Last April 10, 2019, the professors and officers of the PICHE-JCB organization had
travelled to reach the hands of the people in Gawad Kalinga (GK) Village, Brgy. San Pedro,
Batangas City where the organization has prepared a simple program for the people of GK
Village. But of course, before this big event, there has been a lot of preparation considered.
Along with the PICHE-JCB, Singapore Polytechnic in partnership with the Batangas State
University’s Center for Technopreneurship and Innovation (CTI) conducted the event to
educate and engage the locals on the advancement of technology and how they can benefit
from it.

The program started off with a prayer lead by a student from the school, followed by the
opening remarks of Sir Albertson Amante, head of CTI. Thereafter, the students and professors
introduced the participants – mainly composed of parents, on the technology of converting
waste cooking oil into a fuel which can be used for industrials machines including but not
limited to generators. The said technology came from the thesis of selected fourth year students
which is then further established with the aid of CTI and Singapore Polytechnic. Upon sharing
the facts of the technology, a demonstration took place. Also, the advantages of this technology
and its benefits were fully discussed.

The participants were then given time to group themselves to prepare for the question and
answer. The questions being raised where completely answered by both the students and
professors. With this exchange of thoughts and insights, volunteers' hearts were deeply moved
on how the locals of GK Village had shown their interest on this technology and for further
advancement. With this, the program continued. For the parents and elders in the barangay,
this technology would be a great help both for the environment and the economy of their
community.

The program was ended by a “boodle fight” catering all the participants of this activity.
Certificate and tokens were given to heads of the village/barangay, to the Singapore
Polytechnic representatives, and to BatStateU CTI personnel.

This activity of the PICHE-JCB aims to continue sharing innovations that the newest
science and technology has to offer. This could be a start in reaching the hands of those people
who are in need, ignite the sparkling dreams in the minds of every single person in the
community, and serve our fellowmen as a citizen of the Philippines.
