Sport and well-being
“A way to restore body and soul”

4
Play your favourite sport,
whatever it is.
That’s why you should come to Brescia, the province’s physical terrain
and its lakes, mountain streams, open countryside, mountains and
nature parks offer a wide array of fun activities.
Winter snow and summer skiing in the shadow of a large glacier; kite
surfing on the deceptively placid waters of the lake and horseback
riding, immersed in the silence of nature; paddling a canoe and
sport fishing, dog sledding and a thousand other sports for adults
and children, sports fans and enthusiasts, proven champions and
amateurs.
Always with attention to safety, thanks to professional guides - and
always fun.
Enjoy a dynamic vacation, discover interesting places, have exciting
adventures. Come to Brescia. And enjoy.

5
Skiing 365 days a year
Val Camonica has become one of the best ski areas in the Italian Alps.

6
Modern facilities, fast ski lifts and cable lifts,
technologically advanced snow-making machines
(when the weather is… too nice) and, above all,
an enchanting landscape, attract thousands of
skiers from around the world.
Traditional skiers, young snowboarders,
cross-country skiers and players of every
type of winter sport come to Val Camonica for
the thrills that unwind along more than 150
kilometres of trails.
When conditions are favourable, you can even
ski in the summer, on the snow of the Presena
Glacier. You’ll be torn between hurling yourself
down in a spectacular descent and pausing to
look at the surrounding mountains, whether
it’s a brief stop while skiing or a pleasant rest
in a mountain shelter.
7
There is a close connection between golf and
tourism in Brescia. That isn’t surprising when you
consider that it is home to one of the best and
8
most complete golf circuits in Italy.
Golf A few kilometres of travel, and within a half
hour you will find, in rapid succession, three
noteworthy greens: Arzaga, Gardagolf and
Bogliaco. Bogliaco is the oldest green in the
province: dating to 1912 it was the third golf
course opened in Italy.
A few kilometres more and you arrive at other courses facing Lake
Garda (those of the neighbouring province of Verona, for example).
You will discover how many opportunities await the golf enthusiast:
play every day on a different course, enrich your vacation with new
experiences, temper them with the joy of tackling the course, playing
with friends, challenging yourself.

Another noteworthy green is at Franciacorta. It is located a few

minutes from Lake Iseo, hidden among the lush vineyards and
prestigious hotels in this beautiful area. It is a tricky, technically
challenging, but always fun, course.

9
For less accomplished players, there are training and practice greens
available both in the city of Brescia and the surrounding area. There
are others located along Lake Garda, and you can even play, at an
altitude of over 1,500 metres, in Pontedilegno, in the high mountains
of the Val Camonica, a short distance from the Presena Glacier.
This course is open only in the summer, but you
will find yourself in a truly fascinating natural
setting.

Nature and the environment play an important role.

The courses located near Lake Garda and Lake
Iseo are surrounded by a typical landscape of
ancient cypresses, olive trees and agaves. They
were created by some of the greatest designers
in the world, from Jack Nicklaus II to Gary Player
to Cotton, Penninck, Steel & Partners. The trees,
ditches and ground irregularities are reprised on
the course and make every game a thrill.
10
Wherever you decide to spend your vacation in the Province
of Brescia, you will always find fairways, sand traps and holes.

11
Wind+water
The lakes of Garda, Iseo and Idro are a true
paradise for sailing sports enthusiasts.

12
The constantly blowing winds promise fun
for sailors and windsurfers. The numerous
sailing centres in the towns along the lakes
offer races, sailing classes and equipment
rentals. Kite surfing is always very popular:
what a thrill!

Some localities, such as Campione del Garda

in the municipality of Tremosine, specialize in
“wind and water” tourist attractions.

Continuing the theme of water sports, the

rivers of the Province of Brescia also offer
various sports activities. On the Mella and
Chiese Rivers, for example, you can enjoy the
rapids; or enjoy rafting, canyoning, canoeing
and kayaking on mountain streams.

13
In the
saddle!

The entire Province of Brescia offers a wide

variety of trails, for horseback riding enthusiasts
and mountain bikers both bringing you in touch
with nature.
14
From the Adamello
Mountains to Lake
Garda on horseback.
Trails through the woods,
mule trails, paths that
highlight natural and
historic settings.
Two new opportunities
for sports enthusiasts
and nature lovers:
the Adamello Garda
horseback riding trail and
the Adamello Bike Arena.

Along the mountain paths or

lakes and on the surrounding
hills, it is not unusual to
Brescia has created many long bike trails that
encounter groups of cyclists or wind around the lakes (in a single morning
people on horseback. you can cover the entire perimeter of Lake
Garda), going over hills and through vineyards,
climbing mountains roads and allowing you
to discover glorious spots from your bicycle
seat.
Long horseback rides along Brescia’s many
bridle paths lead to wonderful encounters
with nature.

15
Spelunking Free-climbing, hiking and

and sky racing spelunking are adventure

sports for thrill-seekers.
They offer a liberating
outdoor experience that
tests your endurance every
step of the way.

16
If you love a challenge, don’t
miss Skyrace, a marathon run
in the mountains surrounding
Corteno Golgi in Val Camonica.
It is a 42-km course over
mountaintops assisted only by
your own lungs and very strong
legs. Similar competitions are
held in other mountain areas, a
testament to the success of this
challenging sport.

The Cariadeghe Plateau

(in Val Sabbia, in the hills
near Brescia) features
caves to be explored
that are often as deep
as wells. Once used
to store some kinds of
foods, today they are a
spelunker’s paradise.

17
The Brescia Football Club
competes in the best
championships in Italy:
Series A and Series B.

Football in
Brescia
As in all Italian cities, this is the most popular
sport. In recent years, thanks to the success
of the city’s team, the Brescia Football Club,
and to a number of famous players, such
as Roberto Baggio, this team sport has
a new lease on life.

18
Rugby
This has been a pleasant surprise for Brescia.
In 2005 the team from Calvisano, a town
to the southeast of the city, won the rugby
national championship, making Calvisano the
centre of Italian rugby.

Well-being
and
Who doesn’t deserve a rest?
relaxation
The Province of Brescia is a place that offers not only history and
art, beautiful and varied landscapes and fun things to do, but also an
Restoring body and soul, taking opportunity to relax and enjoy yourself. This fact is well known to the
care of yourself, taking time people of Brescia and the many loyal people from Italy and elsewhere
who visit Brescia’s spas and fitness centres - places famous for their
for yourself: this is the secret experience and great results. Check out the spas of Sirmione, the
to rediscovering energy and peninsula that is the pride of Lake Garda, those in Angolo and Ome
well-being, which we too often in the hills amid the Franciacorta vineyards, in Vallio in Val Sabbia
and in Boario in Val Camonica. They are all oases of nature and
neglect. These are the perfect peacefulness.
places to begin the process.

The health benefits of water were known to the ancients. Romans,

Greeks and many other peoples knew about its curative powers and
opened thermal baths, to which health facilities were often added.
These are the lessons from the past that here in the Province of
Brescia are constantly being applied and improved, beginning with
the Sirmione spas, the most noteworthy in Lombardy and among
the best in Italy. The Romans had bathed in these waters since the
1st century B.C. The first spa was opened at the beginning of the
20th century and led to the establishment of a number of hotels. The
thermal waters spring from the slopes of Monte Baldo, following a
course that enriches them with beneficial minerals and ends up in the
lake at Sirmione, at a depth of 20 metres and a temperature of more
than 69 degrees [more than 150 degrees Fahrenheit].
21
You might choose the Catullo facility in the heart of the peninsula near the Roman villa of that
Latin poet. It is a delight for the eyes - an additional health benefit.
The facilities at the modern Virgilio centre are just as enjoyable. It has been open for about
20 years. The water (sulphur and hydrobromic salts) is not only used for aesthetic purposes
but also has health benefits, particularly for the respiratory system.
Health treatments of this type are also offered at the thermal facility in Ome. It offers additional
treatments for the bile system and the kidneys, as well as osteopathic services. Now we are in
Franciacorta, wine country, with hills that evoke the Tuscan landscape. If you have a chance
to travel to Val Camonica, near Lake Iseo, you can visit another historic thermal spa in Boario,
with its four springs, known and enjoyed since the 16th century. In addition to its thermal and
aesthetic benefits, the water is also beneficial to the liver and digestive system. For stomach,
kidney and liver problems, try the water of Fonte Nuova and San Silvestro at Angolo Terme,
a short distance from Boario. It is a place that offers interesting excursions and quiet nature
walks.
Now let’s return to Lake Garda, to Val Sabbia, to Vallio and the Castello spring. The water has
a diuretic and stabilising effect that benefits the digestion, in addition to its thermal benefits.

22
Not only thermal treatment
but also wellness centres,
with their various health
philosophies, can help you
restore the equilibrium and
psychological and physical
sense of well-being that are too
often strained by the stress of
our daily working lives.

In the beauty spas, in Brescia and the surrounding area, you will
be able to regain your vitality and feel good again about yourself
and others.
You can make your visit even more special in charming Sirmione, pampering yourself at
Aquaria, a wellness centre located at the thermal spa, at Villa Paradiso on the lakeshore, or
at Gardone Riviera, at the Grand Hotel Fasano, in an atmosphere that is both charming and
exclusive.

23
The opportunities to reward yourself with a
peaceful and restorative experience don’t end
here: in another wonderful lakeside setting, in
Limone, you will find the Tao Centre (located
in a prestigious hotel), which offers modern
treatments with ancient origins in pursuit of
good health, combining modern medicine
with traditional Chinese methods.

More and more hotels are adding health

treatments to their traditional hospitality, often
including exclusive product offers.
Moving on to Franciacorta, you might want to try Espace Vitalité,
a beauty spa in Erbusco that, in addition to traditional beauty
treatments, includes the cuisine of internationally known chefs like
Gualtiero Marchesi. Of note in Franciacorta (land of great wines) is a
body treatment using an extract from local grapes. Ingredients in the
wine are beneficial to health and beautify the skin: hydromassages
with red wine, hot applications of fermented wine and honey, facial
masks of grape seed oil and massages.

Try it!
