Minimizing the Process of Inspection in Construction

Using BAP Application to reduce delay in
construction.

I. Introduction
 App is an application installed into our devices. Our application will be like the mapua

blackboard wherein the username will be provided by the company. Also, it will be requiring an

account to access the application. It can be used by people who are engaged in the construction

industry because all the information about the construction project will be in this app. Information

like the designs or drawings, estimation of the materials, schedules, total of manpower, equipment

to be used, etc. This application will be able to draw, compute, save and edit files. Users can access

the project information anytime and anywhere they want. They can also send the information even

without internet using the newly launch Meshkit technology that will be input in this app. This is

to expedite preparation of plans, bill of materials and others.

With the use of this technology this app will help to resolve the major issues in the industry

which is project delays. Project delays is one of the serious issues in the construction industry. Not

only do they directly impact your current work, but they indirectly affect your next projects as

everything gets pushed back. Poor communication (imparting or exchanging of information visual

or oral) between the gen con and the sub con leading When the right hand isn’t talking to the left

hand, things can get delayed, and in some cases, done wrong. Approvals at some point in their

career has played the dreaded waiting game. Waiting for someone, somewhere to make a decision

that is keeping the entire project from moving forward. As a leader on the job, you have to make

decisions and keep things going. Coordinating actions and approving items quickly can keep jobs

on time (maybe even ahead of time) and in some cases, under budget.

Project delays are being experienced in construction industry that is why we aim to

minimize the process. These process contains series of events before the final approval (shown in

Fig. 1 & 2) and we plan to eliminate some of these process. This process are: Inspector gathers

documents to bring to final inspection (punch list, approval plans, and revisions), Inspection is
conducted and Information is obtained (permit numbers, street names, street lengths), and Re-

inspection. (shown in Fig. 1)

II. Objectives

The goal of this study is to:

 Understand the use of this ‘application’ in the field of construction

 Faster process in inspection of the progress in the project

 Fast communication in the site between the top management and the subordinates

 Lessen the delays that may occur

For Figure 1, this is the traditional process of inspection.

Step 1: Inspector will schedule Final Inspection

Step 2: Inspector will sends out invitation for meeting

Step 3: The Inspector will gather documents

Step 4: The Inspector will conduct the Inspection

The inspection will take place using figure 2 which will take step by step or face to face inspection

within the site.

Step 5: It will be sent out for approval if NO go back to step 1 if YES proceed to step 6

Step 6: Final Inspection

Step 7: Supervisor sends out final notices

Step 8: Inspector sign off permit and prepare file for archive

IV. Terminologies

Inspection

The act of looking at something carefully, or an official visit to a building or organization to check

that everything is correct and legal.

Permit

an official document giving someone authorization to do something.

Process
a series of actions or steps taken in order to achieve a particular end.

Supervisor

Is a person whose job is to supervise someone or something

Archive

a collection of historical records relating to a place, organization

Approval

an act or instance of approving something

Application

a computer program that is designed for a particular purpose

Meshkit Technology

Is a technology in enabling peer-to-peer offline connectivity

Construction Project

the process or act of constructing or manner in which a thing is constructed

Construction delay

time lag in completion of activities from its specified time as per contract or can be defined as late

completion or late start

V. BAP Application

The BAP Application or most likely Cloud Storage Management Software is a service

model in which project information is maintained, managed, backed up remotely and

made available to users over a network. The construction software can save documents,

edit it and notify the users if there are messages or changes. With cloud storage

management software, users can stay connected, save money, increase flexibility,

reduce errors, and improve project outcomes.

This software will look like a website like gmail, yahoo mail, mapua blackboard etc. in

which every users who are part of the project will have access on it if they have an

account. It centralizes all project information in a single, cloud based. The users can

access project information anytime and anywhere they want.

The management software consists of three parts: join project, project and notification

(see figure 3 ).

Terminologies you may encounter in the application :

Join Project

The Join Project is the part where the user can join other projects. If they can’t find the

name of the project, they can search it on the ‘search part’.

Construction Project

The Construction project also referred to as ‘project’ is a series of related a tasks which

when they are carried in the correct order will lead to the completion of the project.

Construction project requires a project team that are put together to produce a unique

design that delivers a single project. These consist of preliminary designs and bill of

quantities.
Preliminary Design

The Preliminary Design is a design of an entire facility, carried out in sufficient detail to

enable accurate estimation of the costs for constructing and operating a facility. These

consist of architectural, structural, plumbing and electrical design.

Architectural Design

The Architectural design consists of having a single unified overall design/drawing, form,

or structure in which it conforms to the law of architecture.

Plumbing Design

The Plumbing Design contains drawings of specific flow of water and waste in the

infrastructure. It is a system that conveys fluids for a wide range of applications. Plumbing

uses pipes, valves, plumbing fixtures, tanks, and other apparatuses to convey fluids.

Electrical Design

The Electrical design entails planning, creating, testing, or supervising the development

and installation of electrical equipment, including lighting equipment, power systems,

power distribution, fire and life safety systems, electronic components, and voice and data

communications infrastructure. It consist of the design of electrical systems.

Structural Design

The Structural design is the methodical investigation of the stability, strength and rigidity

of structures. The basic objective in structural analysis and design is to produce a

structure capable of resisting all applied loads without failure during its intended life.
Bill of Quantities

The Bill of Quantities (BOQ) is an itemized list of materials, parts, and labor required to

construct, maintain, or repair a specific structure. BOQ consists of construction costs from

the drawings and specification, and also provides fair and accurate information.

Notification

The Notification is a message that is automatically sent to you to tell you there has been

activity on the project. In this section, the user can see messages from other co-user and

also notification if there are changes in the designs and estimation.

VI. How this technology will help our innovation

Since our concept is all about innovating the process for less delays in the project we are using this

application for less delays that may occur in the project. The use of this application is to

communicate in the site without using the internet. We will use the Meshkit technology to

communicate within the range of 200ft without the use of data and the internet.The usual fee in

making an application will cost Php 4,190,000.00 – 5,000,000.00 depends on its content but if we

will introduce it to the contractors we will ask them for a fee of Php 900,000.00 – 1000000.00 for

depending on the storage they need it aso includes the project management service we offer with

the help of our in house project managers.

Instructions:

1. The Project Manager, Site Engineers & Leadman must download the application (BAP

APP)

2. The People involved must provided a tablet individually that they can use in the site
 3. The Project Manager and Site Engineers can now download the files/ documents needed

or communicate or inspect the progress of a certain work from without physical

inspection with each other in the site.

VII. Target Costumers

Our target Customers will be the contractors preferably the triple A contractors that usually hold

large projects and usually have a big chances in the delays.

VI Recommendation

We recommend to use this process by the contractors for faster communication also to prevent

delays in the site also for reliable inspection even if the site engineers are out of the site.

VII Conclusion

In constructing a project there are processes that we ought to follow but these process

sometimes cause delays due to slow of transferring information which result to over costing, loose

of credibility in the industry or much worse bankruptcy. BAP Application will be used to minimize

the long process that causes the delay in such way for being efficient and fast.
