Islantilla & Isla Cristina Guide

The zone of Isla Cristina and Islantilla, this part of Huelva, halfway to the Portuguese Algarve, is an
interesting area for its history, for its natural environment, Gastronomy ,and therefore its tourist
services as beaches and 4 stars luxury hotels.

Huelva is by traditional distance, one of the least known provinces of Spain and in it we can find
treasures like the mountains is in the north of Huelva hams Jabugo or the Aracena region, or area
red mouths of rivers and odiel a place that might seem from another planet.

Where is Islantilla and Isla Cristina?

Well first of all let's place ourselves, where is Islantilla and Isla Cristina? we have to go near the
end of Spain, as we are at the door of the Algarve, in the southwest corner of Huelva.
If you look at the map, we were amazed that the area seems a pretty flower for all river tributaries
and lakes racing limiting the city. The Islantilla is a tourist area that lies between Isla Cristina and
Lepe and it has a wide range of 4 star hotels, golf courses and leisure services.

It is a saying that “hearts are conquered by the stomach”, so I'm going to start talking about food.
Although not as famous as Barbate, Gastronomy cristina Island is closely related to tuna fishing
and Almadraba.

Of course we can not leave Isla Cristina without trying the typical tuna fishermen products, the roe
of tuna, stuffed tuna, onions tuna and everything that has to do with this tasty treat (in recent
years, have appeared gourmet tuna burgers).

There is life beyond the tuna? Yes, of course but also related to fishing, octopus in paprika and bay
are delicatessen of this area of Spain and Sepia grilled, fried or in tomato sauce, it is very tasty in
the area . It is also very typical of their chirla Isla Cristina in sauce or white wine or sweet wine with
bread for making soup.

Islantilla
The urban-tourist complex of Islantilla, a Mancomunidad formed by the municipalities of Isla
Cristina and Lepe, is located on the west coast of Huelva, halfway between both municipal
districts. It has a stable population of 1,261 inhabitants divided between both municipalities in a
similar proportion and structured through a seafront that keeps the relevant separation with the
dunes and the beach in its southern part and the network of holes of the golf course in its
northern part .

Towards the east end of the promenade you reach the Barriada de los Pescadores of the nucleus of
La Antilla. In the opposite direction, the walk continues to Urbasur. Both cores predate Islantilla,
creating a continuous network of streets that is more or less well differentiated due to the
homogeneity in the style of buildings of Islantilla and
the character of the single-family plot of Urbasur on
the one hand and the higher blocks of La Antilla on
the other. the other. Both in Urbasur, more rustic with
intermingled pine forests, and in La Antilla, more
oriented to vertical buildings, there are services that
complement those offered by Islantilla, such as
restaurants and supermarkets, as well as beach bars
on the beach.

In Islantilla there are clearly two zones, the next to

the beach in the south and the area of the golf course
in the north, in a zone of ravines and headlands. The south area, located on the beach, integrates
four hotels, tourist apartments and two shopping centers, one of them with multiplexes, both with
a supermarket, shops and varied catering offers. In the upper area, the golf course (cataloged by
Islantilla & Isla Cristina Guide

the Golf Digest magazine among the 100 best courses in Europe) and the urbanizations mostly of
single-family or semi-detached houses, where there is another shopping center that serves this
part of the complex .

The area has pleasant temperatures, with mild winters and warm summers softened by ocean
currents, and sun for a good part of the year (3,200 hours per year); It is also located between the
natural sites of 'Marismas del Río Piedras and Flecha del Rompido' and the 'Marismas de Isla
Cristina'. It is close to the Doñana National Park and is a place of migratory birds. The environment
thus generates an attraction for the diversity of flora and fauna.

The beach of Islantilla has showers, accessibility for people with reduced mobility and, in the
summer, two sailing schools and recreational nautical services. There are two bar terraces next to
the promenade, not oriented to the typical restaurant bar. The width of the beach is variable,
depending on the season and the state of regeneration after storms that may have occurred during
the winter season. The beach is certified with the Q of Tourism Quality and receives annually
insignias such as the Blue Flag, awarded by the European Foundation for Environmental Education
(FEE), or the EcoPlayas Flag. Likewise, the destination has been selected by the State Secretariat of
Tourism and by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) to participate in the
pioneering SICTED Project (Comprehensive Destination Tourism Quality System), by virtue of its
commitment to the quality tourism.

The Islantilla Film Festival, formerly known as Islantilla International Film Festival, as it began its
journey, is a festival that takes place here during the months of July and August, coinciding with
the summer season, and is characterized for the screening of feature films and short films in open
spaces, free and open-air sessions.

Golf course of Islantilla

The sports par excellence in Islantilla are golf
and nautical activities, since in addition to a 27-
hole course designed in 3 courses, it has two
Sailing Schools during the summer season
located on the beach. Also the more than 3,200
hours of sun per year allow to encourage the
practice of outdoor sports. In its environment
there are disciplines such as cycling, running,
tennis, paddle tennis, footgolf, Nordic walking,
kite surfing, windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing,
etcetera. In the surroundings you can go hiking
through rural roads in the area and go into the
natural areas that exist in the vicinity.

Designed by Enrique Canales and Luis Recasens,

Islantilla's 27-hole golf course is located in the
most important sports-residential complex on the Huelva coast. Not surprisingly, it occupies 300
ha, an area on which the creation of an Olympic high-performance center, equestrian center,
marina, casino and residential facilities for 22,000 people was initially planned. This initial project
was modified to derive in the current tourist complex. The course has generous fairways and great
greens, so you always have the feeling that there are birdie possibilities. The course is completed
with a co-style clubhouse.
