What schooling or training do you have that is necessary for this position?
- Got my CDL and training done in Williamsport.
How did you get this job?
- My cousin referred me.
How long have you worked here?
- I have worked there for 32 years with three different companies.
What qualifications do you need to work?
- Obtain a CDL (commercial drivers license) and find a trucking school.
Are there any non related work to your field that has helped you within this career?
- Labor work at my fathers gas station got me prepared for a blue collar job.
If you were to start over would you choose the same path?
- Not necessarily, it the older you get that harder it is on yourself.
Is your job what you expected it to be?
- No, it’s unbelievable what I have seen!
What are your biggest challenges?
- Any traffic accidents that cause back up.
What do you consider the biggest part of your job?
- Completing my delivery in the time needed.
Describe a typical day for you
- Leave the terminal by 6:30 PM and return my delivery to wherever my assigned location
is.
What do you spend most of your time doing?
- Most of my time is spent driving.
Where could you progress to in this position?
- To switch day shift to spend more time with my family outside of work.
How many employees work for this company?
- My terminal alone holds 198 employees on staff.
What are your relationships like it’s your coworkers?
- You kind of need to get along with co workers on the dock but there are still so many
people I have yet to know.
Is teamwork essential for this position?
- Most of my time is independant other that loading and unloading.
How often do you work alone?
- Most of my time is spend alone on the road.
How much of your work is self direct?
- A lot of my work is depended on me.
Does your company take part in giving back to the local community?
- Of course, if it wasn’t for transportation companies like us, deliveries wouldn’t be a thing.
What is the beginning salary for someone with this job?
- When i started in 1987, I started with a nation known company and stated 23 dollars an
hour.
What advice would you give to someone who is starting out?
- The only thing money could never buy is the people I met and the places I have seen!
