MONEY OVER PASSION?

- WEEKLY BLOG SEVEN

PLANNING

What did you I have learned from planning this week where me and Ben have been
learn from your communicating frequently via Snapchat and Facetime to ensure our
planning this communication skills are developing as quickly and as effectively as possible
week? to ensure we both have a strong understanding of our roles when filming
week arises. This week me and Ben have successfully completed our
planning booklets. We have completed these documents individually but
we have been communicating to ensure that our planning booklets have
the same ideas when it comes to the script and storyboards. I have learned
from planning the importance of detail in order for you to understand your
production and for this too be yours. This is because small aspects such as
design and font can convey how professional you are and furthermore this
benefits the interviewees confidence in us and our production as this will be
physically given and explained to interviewees for them to understand our
production as well as we do. I personally believe detail in such documents as
production schedule heightens your understanding of your production as to
when we are going to film, who with, what we’re filming and where were
filming such as dates and times.

What issues did When planning our expository documentary (Money Over Passion?) me and
you encounter Ben encountered many issues that arose that were hard obstacles to get
and how did around, these were all resolved in a calm and composed way to ensure that
you overcome we did not get stressed by problems that were resolvable as getting stressed
them? would not help our situation this would make it much worse as we would just
be thinking of the negatives as oppose too the positives this could cause us
to fall behind when planning as we want to be as ahead of schedule as
possible to ensure we are not pushed for time or furthermore behind

schedule. An example of an issue was when planning interviewee

appointments to ensure we had reliable first-hand information that would
benefit our production and furthermore our viewers experience. We wanted
the interviewees to feel comfortable with the idea of being in our production
and this too be their own decision as oppose to them feeling pressurised into
this, this meant putting their availability into their own hands, meaning they
decided when they could do this interview as oppose to saying dates and
hoping for the best as we wanted this to benefit our interviewee’s lifestyle
such as their work schedule and family life as we had a great understanding
and consideration of them having their own things going on. The problem
with this was the lack of available dates which was what we were
expecting, an example of this was Steve Brian drummer of Underdog as he
worked Monday to Thursday at this location of occupation whilst Fridays, he
was home but had to work despite being off. We solved this by ensuring that
we could make this date and furthermore having a detailed plan shared
with the interviewee as too what we needed to film that day for example we
planned to film the b-roll of the music studio first which would taken between
1 hour to 2 hours which allowed Steve too get in some work whilst we did this,
this was considerate of this needs. This would leave us with 2 hours for the
interview with Steve and furthermore b-roll of him playing the drums. This was
done through Whatsapp during the negotiation stage which then transferred
to email when planning interviewee answers and dates.

How did you I have ensured that I am ready for filming alongside with Ben by ensuring
ensure that you that all equipment needed as listed on my props list is packed into my
are prepared Lowpro camera bag. This was very successful as I referred back to my
for filming? planning when doing this. I used my props list as a reference point as it
included all equipment that I personally believe is essential and furthermore
needed for this documentary to be made such as my Cannon 200d
camera, I began this list by including all essential items such as camera’s and
tripod’s. Then I started not adding essential equipment but tools that I
personally believe would benefit our professional skills such as 2 back up
camera batteries to ensure we don’t run out of power on set which would
cause us to fall behind and effect our time management, this is a very
successful and static idea that will benefit mine and Ben’s work flow to
ensure that everything needed is carried out each day, the problem with this
is that you may be carrying around more equipment than you actually need
and furthermore increases the probability of losing for example camera
battery charger. If this were to happen and a situation arose where we
found that we did not have this piece of equipment, it would harm our
production and result in us falling behind. I have made sure this will not
happen by printing out a physical version of my production booklet as seen
below. This has allowed both me and Ben to be prepared for filming as we
have a physical version of this booklet which can be shown to interviewees
to make them feel more confident of the production furthermore explaining
this to them which will give them a stronger knowledge of the overall
production. Furthermore, this production booklet contains our up to date
props/equipment list which will allow both me and Ben once finished filming
on location to refer back to this booklet and check that all equipment is
backed ready for the journey back. By having a physical version of this
planning booklet both benefits our interviewees understanding of our
documentary (Money Over Passion?) and furthermore is a contingency plan
for our equipment which will allow us to be stress free of fear of losing

equipment. Below are two evidential photos to proof I have a physical

version of my production booklet.

How did you I have ensured that our equipment list is too a professional standard by
ensure that making sure that it’s not just primary equipment that has been listed too this
your such as camera but furthermore back-up equipment such as camera
equipment lists batteries and camera chargers. I did this because often the most important
were objects when in production which are essentially the foundations of filming
completed to as equipment such as camera batteries allow your camera too function can
a high be forgotten and this would be an extremely unfortunate issue. This is
standard? because with such interviews we have gained successfully such as Ian
Davenport and Steve Brian, these talented individual’s live a fair distance
away from home, forgetting simple but crucial equipment would prevent us
from filming and furthermore with no alternative would potentially cause us
too loose out on a crucial, once in a lifetime interview. My equipment list has
been laid out in a very professional way in order for me to gain a great
understanding of what is needed and when such as tripods and lighting. This
table has been displayed with an accurate photograph of the item as
shown below on the left, whilst the middle column displays an incredibly
descriptive paragraph explaining the objects physical features such as
colour and logo’s and furthermore this objects purpose (what it does and
how this done). I have been very descriptive and accurate with my
depictions of these objects to ensure that when interviewee’s gain a
physical copy of this planning booklet, they have a strong understanding of
our production and everything within the room this conveys being
professional to interviewee’s which allows them too feel more calm and
confident within the interview as they have clarity that me and Ben have a

great understanding of all equipment being used. Finally, I have included

two columns to the right as shown below the first right hand column discusses
who will be using the equipment listed, this normally correlates with who’s
role it is. For example, led panel lights would be shown with Ben’s name next
to it as he is the professional lighting specialist for our short expository
documentary (Money Over Passion?) whereas the microphone would have
my name next to this as I am the professional sound specialist for this
production. I personally believe this is really effective as it allows me and Ben
too have a reminder of our responsibilities and furthermore our interviewee’s.
If interviewee’s have any concerns such as lighting effecting their vision, they
will know whose role this is as they will have a physical copy. This means the
interviewee can communicate with the crew member of that profession on
a personal level. We will off course ensure to check that interviewees are
comfortable beforehand to convey that we have a high amount of
consideration and care for all crew and interviewee’s as they have taken
time out of their busy lives to benefit our future. Finally, as shown to the far
right is a date and time Colum which allows me and Ben to have a strong
understanding of what is needed each day. I personally believe this
equipment list is highly effective, professional and beneficial due to our
production as this will allow us when filming to make sure we have left no
essential equipment behind as this would cause us to fall behind schedule
and therefore mean we would have to rebook slots with other interviewees
which is both a stress to them and furthermore us. This equipment list
definitely makes me feel as an individual more confident in my production
and furthermore stress free as I do not need to think about what I need or
may have left behind as I will have this physically on me whenever I am
filming.

How have you I have ensured that all interviewee’s will be available on the dates stated on
ensured your my production schedule. When communicating with interviewee’s I always
actors and ensured that I was being professional, caring, considerate and
crew will be understanding of their busy and important life styles as I had a great
available? understanding that these talented individuals had taken time out to benefit
our short expository documentary (Money Over Passion?). I ensured that I
MONEY OVER PASSION? - WEEKLY BLOG SEVEN

always checked my email on my iPhone when sitting down too make sure
that no emails of confirmation had been gained without knowing. I always
made sure to respond to these emails within the 30 minutes of gaining this
too ensure that the talking process moved quickly and correctly to allow
interviewees to have a strong understanding of plans that day. Polite and
professional conversations with interviewees such as Steve Brian began on
What’s App as this was my quickest method of communication with this
individual. I gained his email straight away as shown below, as this allowed a
much more professional communication that was much more formal
compared too social media apps. When gaining Steve’s interview this was
quick and instant and we had a set date ready and furthermore a time that
was agreed on meeting. The most difficult interview to gain was Ian Daven
port as shown below as he is a well-known professional music producer who
had done music for such bands as Band of Skulls, Dinosaur pile up and
Stereophonics. The reason this interview was so difficult to gain was because
Ian was an understandably busy individual which meant his responses often
took a long time to gain, this often ranged from a week to 2 weeks. I was
positive throughout this waiting period and made sure I did not put all my
eggs in one basket as Ian was incredibly busy creating amazing and
inspirational music. If not gained this would not have been an issue as me
and Ben ensured too have more interviewees lined up than needed such as
Tyriq and Steve as this for one allows us to have a much larger quantity of
first-hand information received from interview footage when editing. This also
allowed us to be stress-free and have a much smaller chance of getting
stressed due to a lack reliable sources that would represent our
documentary. This was not the cause as Ian emailed back that he was
available on the 10th May. This is an incredibly beneficial interview as Ian has
worked within this music industry for a long time and will be able to convey
reliable and trustworthy information that will persuade our viewers to believe
in our productions argument more. I personally believe that being optimistic,
positive, polite, caring, understanding, considerate and being efficient in
communication with actors has allowed me and Ben to gain trustworthy
sources, that will be able to boost our productions reliability.

How well have I have ensured that all locations and transport has been planned much in

you been able advance to filming. I have ensured that locations for both Steve Brian and
to organise Ian Davenport are available and furthermore corresponding to the short
locations and expository documentary’s topic. This has been done calmly, politely,
transport? strategically and professionally, by communicating with both interviewees’.
We have gained an amazing opportunity to film within Steve Brian (Drummer
of Underdog) studio. This has been planned in Greeham Thatcham Friday
26th April 2019 10:30- 14:30 at his house where him and his band create their
rock music. This is a great location to film at as this is where Steve’s drum set is
meaning we can set up a professional interview with these in the
background, this will convey too viewers what Steve’s role is within the band
and furthermore will persuade viewers further into believing our argument. I
have learned from creating detailed location recces that it is really
important to plan in advance locations with interviewee’s in case this
interferes with their family or lifestyle. This was beneficial too both me and
Ben as it case us mass clarity that we would be able to get topic relation
footage from this music studio and furthermore for the interviewee to be
comfortable with us entering his family home, I am incredibly happy with this
outcome and as is Ben who has been getting updated on this via Snapchat,
to ensure our knowledge of interviewee’s, time and location is as great as
each other’s. I have planned this transport by politely asking a family
member if they are available to take me too Thatcham in order to gain this
beneficial interview, this was done politely and with a high amount of
consideration and understanding of their day to day lifestyle. Ben has
managed to successfully gain an interview with Tyriq Hamilton (Rapper –
Tyke/TK). Ben has efficiently done this through email to ensure that he is
available. An issue with gaining this interview was that Tyriq was only
available on a Tuesday morning 8:45-11:00. Me and Ben dealt with this in a
calm and composed way by making this possibility a reality we scheduled
this in within the production schedule for two Tuesdays within two weeks to
ensure we have time to gain extra footage. This is in case footage comes
out corrupt or furthermore we run out of time during this interview. Me and
Ben have communicated extremely well here to allow each other to gain a
complete understanding of times and locations which will be done Tuesday
30th April 2019 8:45- 11:00.

Are you on I am currently on track this week as a high majority of planning was
MONEY OVER PASSION? - WEEKLY BLOG SEVEN

track for the completed outside of college as me and Ben communicated over facetime
week? If not, in order to ensure that we had both interviewee’s and locations planned far
how far behind in advance to ensure that we do not get stressed and this to cause us to fall
are you? off schedule as this would have a negative effect on both mine and Ben’s
final grade and this would be highly un-fair on him as he should not have to
be effected by my own misdoing’s and neither should I.

What work do I currently need tom complete weekly blogs 3-6 which is what I am currently
you need to doing now as I want to ensure that these documents are as detailed and
complete reflective on my journey throughout this FMP as possible to ensure I cover
outside of everything that has happened, these will be completed out of college to
lessons to stay ensure that these don’t interfere with other work such as filming and editing,
on track? this will be done quickly and effectively to ensure that I don’t fall any further
behind the weekly blog schedule and furthermore so this does not interfere
with other work. I also need to go over feedback to ensure that this is all
completed for both context and my research and furthermore that all this
research is completed but I personally believe this has been done but I will
communicate with my teachers on Wednesday afternoons during workshops
to ensure all work is completed in a high amount of detail and all together is
best to my ability.
