Song: Better
Artist: Khalid
Love songs are back and they’re better

An artist on the rise, Khalid has yet again proven why he hasbecoming as mainstream as

he is. He has won numerous awards including being nominated for a grammy. His newest album

release Free Spirit, included a song that furthered his popular career. His song Better continues to

play on high demand as it is on the top 100 list for both pop and Hip Hop. The song’s popularity

came due to its relatability to his main audience; teenagers.

The song gives off calm vibes as the instrumental is very soothing. The lyrics of the song

also speak out to the newer generation as they address our issues with love now. The song makes

mention of smoking weed as he states “I got so high the other night, I swear to God, I felt my

feet leave the ground,” this song as tons of mentions of a heavenly feeling - as marijuana

enhances one’s sense of as he mentioned “floating.” Khalid makes a comparison between the

feeling of being high and love as both are the ultimate “high” - when you feel your best. Khalid

goes further to compare these two distant concepts as in his chorus the lyrics “nothing feels

better than this” is on repeat.

Khalid has blown up as his songs reach his audience at a different level. He is able to

portray the thoughts and emotions of his viewers in his songs- emotions they often do not portray

well. The concept of love is wildly connected with happiness and feeling great. Khalid portrays

this in his song through both his lyrics and background music. The instrumental is both soft and

delicate - what love is supposed to feel like. While the answer to “what does love feel like” is

subjective, Khalid answered this question through his song Better - his response that many would
agree with.

As cliche love songs are, khalid found a way to bring them back to life. He has found a

way to portray love in its truest form; delicate and comforting. His distanic style of music has

helped pave his path to becoming a successful artist he has today.
