HowTo: Firmwareupdate DWC-managed

Acesspoint
[Requirements]
1. DWC-1000/2000 mit aktueller Firmware
- DWC-1000 with FW4.4.1.2 and higher
- DWC-2000 with FW4.4.1.2 and higher

2. Compatible unified AP with current firmware

- DWL-8610AP/8600AP/6700AP/6600AP/6610AP/3600AP/2600AP with FW4.2.0.x
or higher

[Scenario]

An unified AP, which is managed by a DWC-1000/2000, is to be updated to a new firmware.

[Preparation]

^ The access points are already correct in the management of the

DWC-1000/2000
^ The firmware can be downloaded at any time at ftp://ftp.dlink.de.
^ A TFTP server is required to update the firmware. Recommended here is e.g. the TFTPD32
(http://tftpd32.jounin.net/)
^ The firmware has already been stored correctly in the directory of the TFTP server and is thus
available (in this case, the new firmware is in the ROOT directory of the TFTPD32, so no path
must be specified).
^ Please read the manual and the existing instructions in advance to complete the basic
configuration of the D-Link Wireless Switch
[Preparing the DWC-1000/2000]
1.) Connect to the DWC-1000/2000 and check the firmware of the managed APs, go to
„Status -> Wireless Information -> Access Point - > Managed“

a. Under the item "Firmware Version" the current AP firmware is displayed

b. If you click on one of the managed APs with "right-click", you will be
fered further information on this selected access point
2.) Switch to the menu now „Maintenance -> AP Firmware -> AP Firmware
Download“.

3. Enter your data now

a. Server-Address = IP address of your TFTP server

b. the corresponding FW files for each AP

c. with "Image Download Type" you can change the selection to e.g. limit only "DWL-3600 /
6600AP"

d. With "Managed AP" you can choose whether you want to update all APs or only individual APs

e. confirm the entry with "Start" and wait until the update has been completed

f. Save the entries with "Save"

G. With "Start" you start the update process

In this example, we want to update a DWL-6610AP, so only the firmware file name for the
DWL-6610 will be specified. In addition, Image Type only selects the DWL-6610AP and its
associated MAC address.

If you leave "ALL", you must specify a corresponding firmware file name for all AP types.

2.) After confirming your settings with "Start" the DWC-1000/2000 will show you the
message "Operation Succeeded", please change to the tab "AP Firmware Status“
The update takes about 12-15 minutes per AP.
Success messages and possible error messages are displayed after the process.

If your DWC-1000/2000 as well as the access points and TFTP servers are located in
different IP subnets, you must ensure that the access points can reach the TFTP server
via routing for the firmware update.
