PROJECT TITLe : SOCCER
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
I would like to thank the following people for the help that they offered me:

 Mr .B. Tachiona: For guiding and teaching me on what is required in this project.
 Mr .F. Mukoyi: For providing me with the instruments I used in my project to do
researches.
 Mr and Mrs Chinovhiringa: For their support and providing what was required in
this project.
 My classmates: For helping me whenever I faced difficulties.

INTRODUCTION
In this project, I am going to look at the history of soccer both internationally and also in
Zimbabwe. I am also going to look at the rules of soccer and terms used in the game. In
this project, I am going to look at the basic skills, field of play and dimension and warm
up before an event. I will also look at common injuries and management, equipment
used, tournaments and personalities associated with soccer. Lastly, I am going to
submit a model for the soccer pitch.

OBJECTIVES
I have decided to write about soccer after carefully looking at the following points:

 Promotion of knowledge to soccer players and other students.

 After obtaining enough knowledge, misconceptions regarding soccer would be
minimised and new students will develop interest in the sport.
 Injuries would be minimised as the causes of the injuries would be recognised
therefore averted.
 Other students would use my research booklet for them to know soccer better.
 To promote appreciation of soccer by everyone.

HISTORY OF THE GAME (SOCCER)
Soccer was first played in China between the 2nd and 3rd centuries B.C . It during the Han
dynasty that soccer was played. However the Romans and Greeks all played a game that
was similar to soccer. They played the game for fun. The people dribbled leather balls and
kicked the ball into a small ball. It was in England where the British developed soccer. The
game also adopted the name “Football” in England. The modern soccer game was inverted
by Charles Goodgear. The football association was then established in 1863.

HISTORY OF SOCCER IN ZIMBABWE

Zimbabwe, like other countries also play soccer at the high levels. This is however associated
with an interesting background. Soccer was first introduced in Zimbabwe by the Pioneer
Column. It was during the colonial period when Zimbabwe was still recognised as Southern
Rhodesia.it was mainly for the whites. San Dhauya then formally introduced soccer in 1963.
It became a sport for many blacks since it did not require much financial input. During that
period, the country participated in many international tournaments. San Dhauya had seen
that blacks were being being descriminated and decided to introduce soccer in order to
uplift blacks. The Zimbabwe Football Association was later on established in 1980 and this
became a much more formal birth of soccer in Zimbabwe.
