Annotated Bibliography

Primary sources:

Karl Marx------ Marx, Karl. Capital A Critique of Political Economy. Vol. 1.

https://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/download/pdf/Capital-Volume-I.pdf

Summary:

This source helps in my overall construction of my essay because Karl Marx talks about

Commodity fetishism, false consciousness and capitalism. The theorist talks about the concept of

Marxism which help me explain why I choose my structure. For instance, I picked Marxism

because the video “More Than Okay” exemplifies the advertisement of Pepsi through the usage of

all the three subtopics that I found within the advertisement. Having the theorist book as one of

my sources help my argument because it is confirming my claim. Lastly, having the work of

Marxism is another usage towards why Marx wrote this theory in general.

Incorporation of project:

This is going to be the main structure of the slides and hopefully it does not sound repetitive. I plan

on having information of Marxism in almost every slide because it is explaining why I wrote the

three subtopics. The subtopics are the form in which I saw my argument could be formed out. The

reason these three subtopics are important to me is because

Cardi B in particular is the show stopper. Cardi B is a massive influencer today and I want to
express that it was thanks to Cardi B’s help along Steve Carell and Lil Jon’s awareness that Pepsi

could make that commercial.

Secondary sources:

Capitalism -----Ince, Onur Ulas. “Bringing the Economy Back In: Hannah Arendt, Karl Marx, and the Politics

of Capitalism.” Journal of Politics, vol. 78, no. 2, Apr. 2016, pp. 411–426. EBSCOhost,

doi:10.1086/684596.

Summary:

This is an analysis of the subtopic capitalism and it’s through the perspective of another author

who liked the works of Karl Marx. This article in particular talks about capitalism, and it is the

way objects are through the exchange of monetary value or some sort of exchange value. This

article has a strong point on advancing the usage of capitalism and how it is a positive and negative

outcome. It also gives the reader insight on what they believed the primary source was about. This

just presents more of an analysis for my project.

Incorporation of project:

The contribution that this will make on my slides is evidence upon capitalism. I do not want my

works to be weak instead this provides back up. This makes the PowerPoint seem more credible

and most importantly it will explain why capitalism is the revolving factor of commodity fetishism

and false consciousness.

False consciousness--- "False Consciousness; Karl Marx." The Economist, vol. 420, no. 9004, Aug 27,

Summary:
This article is about why people become unaware of exchange of value. The reason why this is

important is because the American society is getting accustomed to believing other’s opinions as

their credible source. This is wrong because this is not credible enough because they have to be

statistic and allow ample proof. The proof is so that one can see whether there is harm, or the

product is good for usage.

Incorporation of project:

The project will be explaining why everyone should analyze what they buy. This can be the so

what because I want people to realize that they are using unreliable sources.

“More Than Okay”----- “More Than Okay.” YouTube, 29 Jan. 2019, youtu.be/64UH1_D95gQ.

Summary:

“More Than Okay” is an advertisement that talks about why someone should choose Pepsi as their

favorite drink. Pepsi is presented through the works of capitalism. Capitalism is seen most in this

advertisement for example the song in the background and how the turning point is when the

celebrity comes in.

Incorporation of project:

I will incorporate this in every slide because it will communicate the base of my argument. I will

be refuting why the author did what they did and what it proves in today’s society.
