Important Notes:
1. The First Class Meeting is at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2006 in Classroom South,
Room 305. The class is optional. A video to orient you to the course is located at
http://www.westga.edu/~chodges/video/8230intro/intro.htm (will be posted October
13). The video contains information about critical event dates, class format, course text, syllabus,
grading policy, and other useful information. If after viewing the video, you need additional
information, you should attend the First Class Meeting.

2. We are making several changes from the Spring and Summer semesters. There is a new
textbook for the Fall semester, different coverage of topics, and a new course calendar as compared
to Spring semester. Additionally, +/- grading has been implemented for the Fall semester. There
will be several changes in WEBCT and at the public website during the 1st week of class.

2. The only class session you are required to attend is the Final Exam on Friday December 8 from
7:15-9:15 p.m. Optional but recommended are the WEBCT Chat sessions are on Thursday at 4:30
pm. Chat sessions begin on October 26. There is an optional face-to-face orientation session
October 19 in Classroom South 305 at 4:45 pm. There may also be an encouraged on-line help
session prior to the Final Exam, most likely on December 7.

3. The Syllabus and Course Information is located at the Course Information sub-page of Online
Course Webpage (http://www.gsu.edu/~fnccwh/mba8230.html) and in WEBCT Vista. You should
download both the Syllabus and Syllabus Supplement.

4. We use WEBCT Vista for Quizzes, Weekly Chats, Email, Bulletin Board and as a Grade book.
Everyone should see CORP FIN APPLICATIONS when they login to WEBCT. Email me with
your WEBCT login ID if you do not see MBA8130 under your MyWEBCT.

5. The textbook is Corporate Finance: A Focused Approach, by Michael C. Ehrhardt / Eugene F.

Brigham, Thomson South-Western, 2nd ed. 2006. Additional student resource material can be found
on the publisher’s website at: http://ehrhardt.swlearning.com. Both new and used versions of the
textbook are at Amazon for about $90. You must buy a new text if you want access to the textbook’s
website. You will not need the textbook until the second week of class.

6. In accordance with Departmental policy, for masters level courses (MBA and FI prefixed), it is
expected that no more than 35 percent of the students in a given class section will receive a grade of
A. The majority of the remaining students are expected to receive grades of B. Those students
demonstrating significantly lagging performance shall earn grades of C or lower as appropriate.
The finance department employs the +/- grading system. A C- is considered a passing grade for this
course and a C- is considered passing for prerequisite purposes for this course as well as for all
finance electives.
