 Get your electrical wiring done by licensed Contractors/ Electricians only and check wiring
periodically.
 Use good/ standard quality Appliances/ Equipments only.
 Use the correct size and quality of fuse wire. Never use higher capacity as it will fail to serve its
purpose.
 Use Appliances/ Equipment with 3 pin plugs and connect them to 3 pin sockets only.
 Connect only one Appliance / Equipment to one socket.
 Never place bare wire ends in a socket.
 Avoid using temporary electrical connections and extensions.
 Avoid joints in wiring. If unavoidable, make joints by means of non-conductive connectors.
 Do not allow wires to overhang. Support them with guide wires and avoid sharp bends.
 While cutting and stripping outer covering of cables, ensure that insulation of inner conductor is not
damaged.
 Check cable insulation of nicks, cuts, abrasions and crushing.
 Be sure all Electrical Appliances/ Equipment are in perfect working condition before using them.
 Defective Electrical Fixtures, Appliances and Equipment must be replaced or repaired by a competent
Electrician.
 Wires must not be strung over water taps, nails, through doorways or put under mats, carpets etc. Make
sure that plugs fit properly in the sockets.
 Never operate any Electrical Appliances with wet hands, or in wet clothes or shoes.
 See that small children do not poke fingers, sticks, pencils etc into plug holes,
 Never leave an Electrical Gadget in operation un-attended.
 Always remember to switch off Appliances/ Equipment after use. When leaving for a holiday, turn off
the main switch.
 The wrong use of Electrical Equipment is a very common cause for fires.
 Electrical heating Appliances like Ovens, Heaters, Irons and Geysers need special precautions.
 Always read and obey warning signs.

 All Electrical Equipment, Stationary or Portable, must be properly grounded/ earthed before
energizing.
 Before working on any Electrical Equipment make sure that the circuit is dead and the switches are
properly tagged.
 Properly inspected rubber gloves must be worn when working near ‘live’ wires carrying 440 V or
more.
 Only non conductive ladders should be used by Electrical Workers.
 Finger Ring, Bracelets and Metallic wrist watch etc. should not be worn by persons working with
Electrical Equipment.
 Electrical switches must be tagged with ‘OPEN’ & ‘CLOSE’ indications properly by authorized
persons. Never close/ open a switch without having full knowledge concerning the circuit and the
reason why the switch was tagged OPEN/ CLOSE.
 All Electrical switches must have clear identification showing the direction of ON/ OFF Position.
