Lesson 1 - Mirror Scrying

Mirror scrying is using a mirror's reflective surface to perform divination and allowing you to see
things that one could normally not. The images one sees in the mirror may be symbolic or very
literal which normal depends on why one is scrying in the first place.

So how does one perform mirror scrying?

There are two types of mirrors you can do this with: regular old mirrors and black mirrors. Black
mirrors are designed to be used only for scrying purposes but a standard mirror works just as
well. While the method to scry is really the same for both types of mirrors, there is a bit of a
difference in setting up to scry.

Using a Standard Mirror

Everyone has one of these floating around. It could be one that is attached tot he wall in the
bathroom, one that can be hung up where you like, or even a make up mirror. All of them work
for scrying if you know how to use them correctly.

To scry with a regular mirror you will need to be somewhere that no one is going to bother you
and the lights need to be off. Since you can't scry in the pitch dark, you will also need a candle to
light. This makes the mirror very dark and almost black looking - which is good.

When positioning your candle you don't want the flame to actually show up in the mirror's
reflection, but you want the light to bounce off creating a perfect shiny reflective surface to gaze
into. If possible you will want it at an angle that your own reflection will not show up in. However,
when dealing with mirrors mounted onto walls this may not be possible and that is perfectly okay
- don't worry about it.

You will then begin to allow your mind to stop the chatter and begin to focus on the goal here:
scrying. The first time you do this try not to focus on a question or topic. You want to just
experience it and see what comes to you in the mirror. So take a few deep breaths and look into
the mirror. Keep a soft gaze or you will strain your eyes causing you to get no visions and one bad
headache.

After you find yourself in a comfortable gaze while looking into the mirror, you will begin to
notice that maybe your vision goes a little blurry. That everything that is reflected in the mirror
begins to loose shape and fade away. This is a good sign! Keep your focus and keep your gaze. In
time, you will begin to see shapes or pictures.

The images and shapes that one sees within the mirror could be smoky and like someone is
making designs with smoke. Others end up with clear images as if watching a black and white tv
show. In time, the images that come to you will be clearer and clearer.
Keep a mental note of what you see and when the images fade away think about what you saw. Or
maybe even write them down in a notebook or journal. You will want to ask yourself it what you
saw was very literal seeming image or if it seemed more symbolic? If it was symbolic visions, do
you know what it meant? An easy way to figure out the meaning of these types of visions is to
grab a dream dictionary as the symbolic meaning is exactly the same. These can also be found
online with a simple search.

Black Mirror Scrying

The black mirror used for scrying is only used for scrying purposes and can be very simple or
fancy looking. They can be purchased for $20 to $200 from online and physical witch/new age
shops. However, due to being on a budget, I prefer to make me own. It can cost as cheap as $6 to
make one at home!

Creating one of these mirrors is a fun experience and adds some of your own energies to the
mirror creating a better bond between you and the mirror. The better the bond - the better the
ability to scry.

I must note though that if you follow the instructions of the second link and create your own with
a design, make sure you don't use a big design or you won't have a large enough area to scry
with. I like to stick with simple boarders or a image that is on the top or bottom of the mirror.
This leaves the middle solid black and perfect for scrying.

Okay, so you know how to make a black scrying mirror. Now to go on about how to use it.

The method is pretty much the same only now you don't need to cut off all your lights or use it by
only candle light unless you wish to. You just need to position your mirror where you can easily
gaze into it and have little distractions.

If you prefer doing scrying in the dark, then you will need to use some form of light to see your
mirror. With a black scrying mirror you can use a candle, night light or even the light of the full
moon if used outdoors. The candle used with a regular mirror is just there to give a soft light as it
reflects light differently than a black mirror.

So if you can scry with a standard mirror, then you can scry with a black mirror.

Scrying on a Topic

Lets say you really want to know about how you did on your exam you had yesterday. You are very
nervous about how you did and if you didn't pass it then you might fail the class. Well, you would
pull out your mirror and do everything like stated earlier. Only when you begin to focus and start
gazing into the mirror, you would keep this topic in mind or even out loud state something like,

"I wish to see what I made on my exam. Please show me."

And then you would begin scrying. After a little while you might see a smoky image of a B+ show
up or even a more detailed image of your exam paper with the grade marked at the top. There is
always the possibility that you will just see an image of yourself being in a happy or sad emotional
state to represent your grade. If you seem to get more symbolic answers when scrying it could be
that for a good grade you will see the image of a sun in your mirror or if the grade was a failing
grade a tornado to show it was a disaster.

Keep track of all the topics and questions you ask your mirror and what the answers were. This
way you can learn to understand your future answers better.

Spying on Others

As strange as it sounds, you can even use this method to spy on others. Yes, you heard that right.
Its a more advanced practice, but with time it can become a very handy skill. Basically you start by
focus on a person you wish to see before scrying. I like to say out loud something like this:
"I wish to see (name) at the present moment. I wish to know they are safe and sound."

Then I begin to scry. I've actually had times where it was like watching a recording of the person
or like I somehow tapped into a secret black and white security system of them. First time I did
this, I was very shocked at how detailed the image was. I also discovered once that a boyfriend
was cheating on me this way and to this day I bet he doesn't know how I knew it. lol.

However, those who have protective shielding or magick charms of protection around them may
not be able to be viewed by this method. It is spying after all and their magick will protect them
from eyes that do this with negative intentions and sometimes even from those with good
intentions.

It is also possible to view the astral realm in this same way. I have done this myself in the past to
check in on spirit guides I have there as well as to look in at my cottage I have on the plane. This
can come in very handy for those who are big on astral traveling. Some locations will be protected
from outside viewing though just like a person who is shielded or protected by magick.

Viewing Your Past Lives

One can also learn to view their past lives in this manner. If you get very literal images that do
remind you of watching black and white tv, then you can simply ask to see images of your past
lives before scrying. However, even for those that don't get scrying visions like that, you can still
learn to see what you once looked like in a past life by following the instructions below.

You will want to start out like you normally do only you want to use a mirror that is large enough
for you to see your whole face or upper part of your body. You will need a pitch black room even if
using a black mirror and a candle. The light of the candle will need to be positioned where it will
shine onto you but not where you are completely lit up in the mirror.

Start by focusing and stating what you wish to see. Then stare at your reflection's eyes. Allow your
gaze to be soft and focused only on the reflection of your eyes. Do not let your eyes wander
around.

After a short while your reflection will begin to become fuzzy and start to change. Without moving
your gaze away from your reflection's eyes try to notice the details of the changes. Peripheral
vision is a major key to making this work.

Keep mental notes about changes in hair color, skin texture, skin color, facial markings, hair
styles, clothing and accessories, etc. All these little pieces can help you figure out a time period
for that life and possibly even a location.

When your image changes it is possible that it will go back to your modern body's reflection
before switching to the next past life image. If it does this instead of just moving directly to the
next, just be patient and wait a few seconds. Once the mirror stops showing you different faces
and stays at your current life's reflection the exercise is over.

However, just because the exercise is over doesn't mean that if showed you all your past lives.
Some people could end up at the mirror for hours doing this if it showed every face from every
past life. It is always a good idea to redo the exercise and see if any new ones show up later.

Make sure to write this down once you have completed this or it will all become just one blurr of a
memory. It is better to right it out while it is still fresh in your mind.
