1 FOREWORD
California
Proposition 65: Warning
Diesel engine exhaust and some of its constituents are known
to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects and
other reproductive harm.
WARNING
Battery posts, terminals and related accessories contain lead
and lead compounds. The contact with lead or lead com-
pounds may lead to serious injuries and / or death. Wash
hands after handling.
1.00 General
This safety manual is to be carefully read and adhered to by
all persons who are involved in the application, operation, as-
sembly and service of the machine.
Additional precautions may be necessary, depending on at-
tachments used, conditions on the construction site or during
maintenance.
Most accidents involving machinery are caused by disregard-
ing basic safety regulations. Such accidents can be often
avoided by recognizing possible dangerous situations in ad-
vance.
Incorrect starting-up and operation of the machine is danger-
ous and can result in serious injuries - or even fatal conse-
quences!
Personnel must not be permitted to operate or service this
VÖGELE machine before they have received adequate train-
ing on its operation and handling. All personnel must carefully
read and fully understand the operating instructions and the
safety manual.
DANGER
Identifies immediate danger. If this danger is not avoided,
death or serious injuries will be caused.
WARNING
Identifies a possibly dangerous situation. If this situation is
not avoided, fatality or very serious injuries may be caused.
CAUTION
Identifies a possibly dangerous situation. If this situation is
not avoided, minor injuries or damage may be caused.
CAUTION
Carefully read and comply with all safety instructions in this
safety manual and in the machine’s operating instructions
prior to starting-up the machine!
If the machine is incorrectly started or operated, this can
cause serious injuries or fatality.
If you do not have the operating instructions for your partic-
ular machine, get a replacement operating instructions from
your employer or from your dealer.
WARNING
Failure to observe the Operating !
Handling the machine unauthorized and not be aware of dan-
gers can lead to serious injury or death.
Read and follow the VÖGELE operating instructions and
the safety manual.
Observe warnings.
Avoid dangerous operating conditions through hazard
aware handling of the machine.
Be careful
Human error is caused by many factors:
Carelessness, fatigue, stress, preoccupation, drugs, and alco-
hol to name a few. Damage to the machine can be fixed in a
short period of time, but injury or fatality has a lasting effect.
For your safety and the safety of others:
Encourage your fellow workers to act safely.
Familiarize yourself with the operating and maintenance
characteristics, capacities and limitations of your machine
and its equipment.
Familiarize yourself with the safety devices and instruc-
tions on your machine.
WARNING
Reflex-like behavior and / or selection of the simplest
way!
In emergency cases or during danger, reflex-like behavior
and / or selection of the simplest way can cause serious in-
juries or death.
In any event, keep calm.
Stop the machine using the EMERGENCY STOP button.
Test the functionality of the EMERGENCY STOP at least
once a day during machine standstill.
WARNING
Usage with removed safety equipment!
The operation of the machine with removed or not in position
safety equipment, can result in serious injury or death.
Operate the machine only with installed and in position
safety equipment.
The operation of the machine with defective protective
equipment is prohibited.
Immediately replace protective equipment.
WARNING
Operating in not technical proper condition
The operation of the machine in not technically perfect condi-
tion, can result in serious injury or death.
Only operate the machine in technically perfect condition.
Replace wear parts in a timely manner.
WARNING
Unauthorized modifications to the machine!
Unauthorized modifications to the machine can result in seri-
ous injury or death.
Unauthorized changes will result in forfeiture of the manu-
facturer’s warranty obligation and the machine operating
license.
Use only tested and VÖGELE approved parts and equip-
ment.
WARNING
Incorrect operation by untrained and not instructed
operating personnel!
Lack of knowledge on how to deal with the machine can re-
sult in serious injury or death.
Read and follow the VÖGELE operating instructions and
the safety manual.
Only operate the machine if the VÖGELE operating in-
structions and the safety manual have been read and un-
derstood.
Falling hazard
A fall can cause serious injuries or death. Increased danger,
do not climb up.
Crushing hazard
Crush area can cause serious injuries. Stay clear.
Pressurized tank
Unit contains accumulator. Prior to starting service work, the
operating and maintenance instructions are to be read.
Burn hazard
Engine oil and engine parts can be very hot, there is a risk of
injury. Stay clear. Wear personal protective equipment.

Fluid may enter control units and cause injury and / or dam-
age to the machine. Do not spray components with water.
Keep out
Access to the machine components is not allowed. Moving
machine components can cause serious injuries or death. Be-
fore maintenance work, switch off engine and remove ignition
key. Wait until all machine components have come to a stand-
still.
Crushing hazard
Pinch point can cause serious injuries or fatality. Stay clear.
Burn hazard
Surface can be very hot. Do not touch surface. Stay clear.
Entanglement hazard
Rotating augers can cause serious injuries or fatality. Stay
clear.
Fire hazard
Release agents and their vapors are inflammable and harmful
for the health. No open flames or sparks. Wear personal pro-
tective equipment.
Keep out
Access to the machine components is not allowed. Moving
machine components can cause serious injuries. Stay clear.
Hazardous condition
Presence in this area can cause severe injuries or death. Stay
clear.
AdBlue®
Only fill with AdBlue® / DEF according to ISO 22241. Follow
operating and maintenance manual.
3 SITE ORGANIZATION
Develop safe working procedures based on hazards specific to
the construction site, and make sure they are enforced.
Be alert!
Know where to get assistance.
Know how to use a first aid kit and fire extinguishers.
There are areas around the machine which are hard or impos-
sible for you to see.
Position look-outs to monitor these areas.
Do not operate the machine until these look-outs have sig-
naled to you that the hazard area is clear.
Familiarize yourself with the signals/signs used by the look-
outs.
Stop the machine immediately if anyone enters the hazard
area or if you approach anyone with the machine.
CAUTION
Precautions for machine operators!
Only operate the machine if you can see all people in the
vicinity of the machine and if these people have signaled that
the hazard area is clear.
WARNING
Risk of fatality!
Incorrect operation and placing in operation of the machine
is dangerous and can cause injuries and, in some circum-
stances, fatality.
Always enter and exit machine on the side that is away from
the flow of traffic.
Increased risk of being struck or backed over by vehicles or
equipment at night.

WARNING
Measurements and tests for early detection of damage
Omission of measurements and tests for early detection of
damage e.g. braking devices, hoses, etc., can cause serious
injury or death.
Check the machine daily by visual inspection for any obvi-
ous damage.
Perform the prescribed measurements for wear parts, ac-
cording to the VÖGELE operating instructions.
5.01 Setting up
5.01.01 Fitting and setting up screed
WARNING
Danger due to heavy loads!
Never walk or stand under suspended loads, risk of fatality!
Caution when lowering/raising the screed, risk of crushing!
WARNING
Danger due to heavy attachments!
The attachments such as strike-off plates and end plates are
heavy!
Heavy falling objects will cause serious injuries or death!
Check that all pins, spring clips and other safety elements are
correctly installed and in good condition.
Check the ground fault interrupter and insulation monitor
daily.
Make sure the control stand, steps and rails are clean.
Oil, grease, snow, ice or mud in these areas can cause you to
slip or fall.
The floor on the screed must always cover the entire paving
width!
Move all obstacles away from the machine's path and area of
operation.
Clean the machine's wheels prior to traveling on roads!

5.05 Re-fuelling
DANGER
Fire hazard!
Fuels and fuel vapors are highly flammable and toxic!
WARNING
Irritation due to ammonia vapors!
Ammonia vapors have a pungent odor and may cause skin,
eye and mucous membrane irritation.
AdBlue® / DEF must not come into contact with the skin,
eyes or clothing, nor must it be swallowed. Immediately rinse
any affected areas with plenty of water and see a doctor
if necessary. When filling the AdBlue® / DEF tanks always
wear suitable protective clothing (e.g. safety gloves, safety
glasses).
Only fill the AdBlue® / DEF tank outdoors or in well venti-
lated rooms.
WARNING
Starting or use of the machine outside the driver's cab!
Starting or use of the machine in which the driver is outside
the driver's cab, can lead, due to a lack of influence on the
traveling motion, to serious injury or death.
Only use or service the machine from the designated dri-
ver's seat according to the instructions of the operating
instructions.
6 STARTING UP
6.00 General
DANGER
Suffocation hazard!
Exhaust fumes are toxic and present a suffocation hazard!
Only start and operate the machine from the driver's seat/op-
erator's position.
Only operate the machine with control console and driver's
seat locked.
Never adjust the driver's seat/operator's console while oper-
ating or transporting the machine.
Prior to starting-up the machine, ensure that no people or ob-
stacles are next to, in front of, behind, under or in the ma-
chine.
Sound the warning horn before starting the engine!
DANGER
Crushing hazard!
When driving, ensure the route is clear of people and objects.
Caution when lowering/raising the screed, when pivoting
the hopper, when switching on the conveyor/the distribution
auger.
There is a risk of crushing.
WARNING
Hazard of being run over!
Moving machines can cause severe injury or death!
There are areas around the machine which are hard or impos-
sible for you to see.
Position look-outs to monitor these areas.

7 OPERATION
7.00 General operating instructions
WARNING
Incorrect operation of the machine!
Moving machines can cause severe injury or death!
WARNING
Transport of persons!
The transport of persons with the machine can lead to seri-
ous injury or death.
During the operation, the operating personnel may only
be in the intended driver place.
NOTE
Always select the control stand that is away from the flow of
traffic on the road and the construction site.
Only drive down a gradient at the lowest road speed.
If the machine operator is placed at risk by traffic driving past
with the driver's seats pivoted outwards, special safety mea-
sures are to be taken.
CAUTION
Incorrect operation of the machine!
Ignoring of unusual circumstances of the machine may cause
damage or injuries.
WARNING
Leaving the driver's cab during operation!
Leaving the driver's cab while the diesel engine is in opera-
tion can cause serious injuries or death, due to uncontrolled
movements.
Even when just leaving the driver’s cab momentarily,
switch of the diesel engine.
Perform maintenance work only while the diesel engine is
switched off.
WARNING
Towing of impermissible trailer loads!
Towing the trailer loads using impermissible towing hooks
can cause serious injuries or death.
Only operate the machine with permissible towing hook
and permissible towing load.
Always ensure that all drive systems have been switched off
before carrying out maintenance, cleaning or repair on the
conveyor system.
CAUTION
Hazardous operating conditions!
If the machine is overloaded or not used as intended, exces-
sive oscillations and vibrations can be generated which could
be harmful to the health or cause dangerous operating condi-
tions.
Always have complete control over the machine and never
operate it beyond its capacity.
WARNING
Use in impermissible ambient conditions!
The operation of the machine in impermissible environmen-
tal conditions, for example. unfavorable weather conditions
(snow, ice, etc.), excessive uphill or downhill gradients, im-
permissible cross slope, etc. may result in serious injury or
death.
Never operate the machine during slickness or on ice /
snow.
Only operate the machine when its standing on firm
ground.
Observe the permissible transverse and longitudinal
slopes defined in the VÖGELE operating instructions.
Learn all signals used on the field, and who has the responsi-
bility for signaling.
Learn thoroughly the regulations that must be observed on
the construction site.

sible for you to see.
Position look-outs to monitor these areas.
Only operate the machine if there are no people in the hazard
area.
Familiarize yourself with the signals/signs used by the look-

Stop the machine immediately if anyone enters the hazard
area or if you approach anyone with the machine.
Shut down the machine and keep well away from the machine
until the thunderstorm has passed!
7.04 Obstacles
Check the overall transportation height / width (e.g. weather
canopy, ladders etc)!
Always keep well clear when traveling under or over bridges,
through tunnels or past high-voltage pylons etc.
Check the distances above and beside the vehicle.
WARNING
Hazardous operating conditions!
A tipping or uncontrollable machine can cause serious injury
or death.
8 SHUTTING DOWN
8.00 General
If possible park the machine on a hard, flat surface.
Run the conveyor belt / scraper conveyor until completely
empty.
Secure the hopper.
Lock the screed.
9 TRANSPORTATION
9.00 Driving from one place to another
Place all controls for the attachments in the neutral/zero posi-
tion.
Fold in the hopper walls and lock them.
Secure the raised screed using the mechanical screed locks.
If there are awnings on the roof, push them in and lock them.
Secure all moving/adjustable machine parts using the secur-
ing elements provided.
9.01 Loading
WARNING
Hazardous operating conditions!
Dangerous operating conditions may present themselves
while loading or unloading the machine.
Serious injury, death, or machine damage can occur from
tipping or slippage of the machine during this procedure.
Ensure that the ramps are free of dirt, oil, snow, etc!
The ramps must have an anti-slip surface!
Never drive metal over metal!
The gradient on the ramps must not exceed the data stated in
the operating instructions.
Check that the load is balanced correctly on the transport ve-
hicle.
Ensure that people are not at risk if the machine should slip
or tip over!
Keep all unauthorized personnel away from the loading zone!
WARNING
Hazardous operating conditions!
Never walk or stand under suspended loads. This action may
result in serious injuries or fatality.
10 MAINTENANCE
10.00 General
WARNING
Hazardous operating conditions!
Incorrect service is dangerous and can cause serious injuries
- or even death!
Always follow the maintenance instructions of your machine.
Never use damaged tools.
WARNING
Non-compliance with maintenance intervals!
Non-compliance with maintenance intervals, as described in
the VÖGELE operating instructions, causes faults on the ma-
chine and can cause serious injuries or death.
Only operate the machine with correctly performed main-
tenance intervals.
WARNING
Failure to perform maintenance and repair work!
Failure to perform maintenance and repair work can cause
serious injuries or death.
Perform maintenance tasks on the machine on time, as
described in the VÖGELE operating instructions.
The operation of the machine using machine components
that are defective or require maintenance is prohibited.
Replace the machine components immediately.
WARNING
Incorrectly performed maintenance and repair work!
Incorrectly performed maintenance and repair work can
cause serious injuries or death.
Maintenance or repair work on the machine should only
be performed by trained individuals based on the VÖGELE
operating instructions and the safety manual.
After completion of maintenance or repair work check that
all works are executed correctly.
WARNING
Risk of injuries!
Maintenance work on equipment that is switched on can
cause severe injury or death.
WARNING
Use of non-original VÖGELE spare parts!
Use of non-original VÖGELE spare parts can cause serious in-
juries or death.
Use only properly tested original VÖGELE spare parts.
Use only functional spare parts.
WARNING
Failure to change wear parts!
Failure to change wear parts can cause serious injuries or
death.
Replace wear parts based timely, as indicated in the
VÖGELE operating instructions, at the latest upon reach-
ing the wear limit.
DANGER
Suffocation hazard!
Exhaust fumes are toxic and present a suffocation hazard!
Ensure that lifting devices are strong enough before lifting the
machine or any of its components.
The machine must be adequately supported.
Ensure that there are no people on the machine while work is
being carried out underneath it.
During work underneath the raised screed, ensure the screed
is securely chocked and secured against lowering.
Never rely upon the hydraulic or electrical system on the
machine for support or any other purpose while performing
maintenance.
Secure all raised machine components against dropping.
10.01 Liquids
WARNING
Pressurized and / or hot escaping liquids!
Pressurized and / or hot liquids including hydraulic oils and
coolants may escape causing severe burns, injuries or death.
When working in the vicinity of pressurized or hot liquids
wear protective clothing.
Let the system cool down and be sure the pressure is re-
leased.
Always switch off the engine and ensure the pressure is re-
leased when handling cooling water, oils, lubricants, etc.
Oils, greases, etc. are only to be checked after they have
cooled down sufficiently.
WARNING
Risk of burns!
Hot liquids can cause severe burns.
WARNING
Coolant!
Be careful when removing the radiator cap.
Coolant is under pressure.
Anti-freeze can be toxic and caustic.
NOTE
Disposal of coolant
The engine must be switched off before draining the
coolant.
Old coolant must be collected and disposed of cor-
rectly!
WARNING
Risk of burns!
Contact with hot objects or hot liquids including hydraulic oils
and coolants may cause severe burns or injuries or death.
When working in the vicinity of hot objects or hot liquids
wear protective clothing.
Let hot objects and systems which contain hot liquids cool
down before performing maintenance.
When changing oil or oil filter, collect all old oil in a suitable
vessel!
Oil must not be allowed to enter and contaminate the ground!
Old oil and filters must be disposed of correctly.
It is only allowed to use synthetic hydraulic fluids if the ma-
chine was filled with this hydraulic fluid originally.
Check whether the hydraulic hoses and seals for synthetic hy-
draulic fluids are suitable.
10.03 Cleaning
Be careful with cleaning agents.
Never use petrol (gasoline) as a cleaning agent!
Never use abrasive cleaning agents!
Always comply with the product's safety instructions when us-
ing oils, greases and other chemical substances.
WARNING
Risk of tripping and crushing!
Serious injury and/or death may result from reaching inside
a conveyor or an auger, even when cleaning, while such con-
veyor or auger is in an operating mode.
Ensure all conveyor or auger drive systems have been
switched off before carrying out any work.

Risk of tripping and crushing!
Serious injury and/or death may result from reaching inside
a conveyor or an auger, even when cleaning, while such con-

switched off before carrying out any work.
The spreader auger and the conveyor units must only be op-
erated long enough to access all surfaces with sprayed clean-
ing agent.
Remove all paving material from the control stands and walk-
ways so that they do not become slippery and cause an acci-
dent.
Start cleaning only after all other workers have left the ma-
chine.
Follow all applicable regulations in relation to washing the
equipment and the disposal of waste.
Check that all pins, spring clips and other safety elements are
correctly installed and in good condition.
Check the ground fault interrupter and insulation monitor
daily.

Be careful when opening doors and flaps - risk of injury.

10.05 Battery
WARNING
Risk of explosion!
Batteries may explode during charging and cause severe in-
jury.
WARNING
Electrolyte is toxic and caustic!
Skin burns and risk of blinding are possible consequences.
Always wear eye and face protection.
Dispose of old batteries in line with the applicable regula-
tions.
WARNING
Spraying the electrical system with a high pressure
cleaner!
Liquid/humidity that penetrates in the electrical system,
caused by spraying with high-pressure cleaners, causes a
short circuit or malfunction and can lead to serious injury or
death.
Protect the electrical system from moisture with suitable
covers (e.g. protective foil) before spraying the machine
with high-pressure.
Avoid direct spray jetting onto electrical components.
WARNING
Risk of burns, explosion and/or intoxication!
Spray mist of cleaning fluids containing solvents can cause
severe injury or death.
WARNING
Risk of injuries!
Explosive separation of damaged tire and/or rim parts can
cause severe injury or death.
DANGER
Electric shock hazard
Cables and components are live, there is a risk of injuries.
Only clean the machine with the high pressure cleaner if
the heater is switched off.
If a spray gun is used, vehicle tires and tire valves may only
be cleaned from a distance of at least 30 cm otherwise the
tires/valves may be damaged by the high-pressure jet.
The first sign of damage is a discoloration of the tire.
Materials which contain harmful substances must not be
sprayed.
Only use cleaning agents which are intended for cleaning and
approved by the manufacturer of the equipment.
The worker must use the high pressure cleaner in accordance
with the provisions specified for its use. He must take into ac-
count local conditions and watch out for other people in the
area when operating the equipment.
The high pressure cleaner should never by left unattended
while it is in operation.
The jet of cleaning agent spraying from the high-pressure
nozzle exerts a recoiling force on the sprayer gun. Therefore,
the gun and the steel tube must always be held tightly when
the equipment is in operation.
