01. Define computer?
Computer is an electronic device which can perform .Arithmetic & logic operation .It is a
machine capable of solving problems and main plating data.

6. What are input devices? Give example?
Input devices as the name suggests are used for transferring user command (or) data (or)
choice to the computer. Ex., Keyboard, mouse, light pen.
7. What are output devices? Give example?
Output devices unit produces information in the form of print out, display on the monitor (or)
transferred to the disk out.
8. What is DOS?
Full form of DOS is Disk Operating System. The term DOS can refer to any operating
system, but it is most often used as shorthand forms-MS. originally developed by
Microsoft for IBM. MS-DOS was the Standard operating system for IBM-compatible personal
computer.
9. Give the different types of DOS command.
ASSIGN, APPEND, ATTRID, BACKUP&RESICA, BASIC&BASICA, CP&CHDIR
10. What is operating system? Mention types of operating system?
The operating system (OS) is the most important program that runs on a computer.
Computer operating systems perform basic tasks, such as recognizing input from the keyboard,
sending output to the display screen, keeping track of files and directories on the disk, and
controlling peripheral devices such as printers.

11. Mention 5 internal commands?
a) CLS: - (Clear the screen) this command is used to clear the screen or wipe out every thing
written on the screen.
b) DIR: - (Directory) Dir command is used for listing files and directories present in the
current disk.
c) VER :-( Version) Version numbers indicates that which edition of DOS we are working
on.
d) VOL :-( Volume) displays the disk volume label and serial number, if it exists.
e) DATE: - Display the current Date
12. Mention any 5 external commands?

a) MORE:-Using TYPE command we can see the content of any file. But if length of file is
greater than 25 lines then remaining lines will scroll up. To overcome through this
problem we uses MORE command. Using this command we can pause the display after
each 25 lines.
b) MEM:-This command displays free and used amount of memory in the computer.
c) SYS: - This command is used for copy system files to any disk. The disk having system
files are known as Bootable Disk, which are used for booting the computer.
d) XCOPY: - When we need to copy a directory instant of a file from one location to another
then we uses xcopy command. This command is much faster than copy command.
e) MOVE: - Move command is used for moving one file or multiple files from one location
to another location or from one disk to another disk.
13. What is GUI?
Graphical user interface is abbreviated GUI and pronounced GOO-ee. GUI is a
program interface that takes advantage of the computer’s graphics capabilities to make the
program easier to use. Well-designed graphical user interfaces can free the user from learning
complex command languages. On the other hand, many users find that they work more effectively
with a command-driven interface, especially if they already know the command language.

14. Define internet?


Internet is a global computer network providing a variety of information and communication
facilities, consisting of interconnected networks using standardized communication protocols.
15. What do you mean by booting?
Booting is a process or set of operations that loads and hence starts the operating system,
starting from the point when user switches on the power button.
16. What are search engines?
Search engines are programs that search documents for specified keywords and return a
list of the documents where the keywords were found. A search engine is really a general class of
programs; however, the term is often used to specifically describe systems like Google, Bing and
Yahoo! Search that enable users to search for documents on the World Wide Web.
17. What are browsers? Give examples.
A browser is an application program, that provides a way to look at and interact with all the
information on theWorld Wide Web. The word "browser" seems to have originated prior to the
Web as a generic term for user interfaces that let you browse (navigate through and read) text files
online.

Two examples of Web Browsers are Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator

18. What is email? Mention its uses


E-mail (or e-mail) is defined as the transmission of messages over communication networks.
Typically the messages or notes entered from the keyboard or electronic files stored on disk.
Most mainframes, minicomputers, and computer networks uses Email is useful for
communication, marketing, promotion, mobility, filtering and follow-up.
19. What are charts?
A chart, also called a graph, is a graphical representation of data, in which "the data is
represented by symbols, such as bars in a bar chart, lines in a line chart, or slices in a pie chart".
A chart can represent tabular numeric data, functions or some kinds of qualitative structure and
provides different info.
20. Explain the components of a simple bar chart?
A compound bar chart is a bar graph with secondary and tertiary information measured on
the same bar often with a colored key. A bar graph measures frequency data. Compound bar
charts are also referred to as stacked bar charts and component bar charts.
