REFLECTION

Why did you choose this topic?

While choosing the unit topic, we considered that the topic should be beneficial for children and also
it should be from their daily lives. As we all know, being healthy is one of the most important thing in
human's life. Thus, to teach children what they should do for being healthy has important roles in
their habits and also it is very beneficial to them in their future lives. In addition, we realized that
through this concept, we can reach some determinant goals from cognitive development, self - care
development and motor development.

Which steps of ASSURE is most important? Why?

We spend our most of the time to state standards and objectives. We all know that activities are
done with children to make them reach some objectives. Thus, before planning an activity, we
worked on the standards and objectives that we want to make children reach. After determining the
standards and the objectives, we planned our activities according to them.

How did we decide prerequisite skills?

We think that all children have knowledge about health; so, we choose this topic and children who
36-48 months old have something about how we can healthy. Actually, they learned the health firstly
from parents. Families have already told their children how to eat healthy, how important sports,
and the importance of body cleansing. Yet, we told the importance of health as if children did not
actually know something in our activities. In addition, we have a theoretical background about
children’s ability in 36-48 months old.

How we determine objectives?

When choosing our objectives, we paid attention to the fact that it was appropriate to the topic we
chose and to be suitable for the age group of children. We wrote our objectives by looking at the
Ministry of National education program. After selecting our topic, we chose our objectives and then
wrote our activities. Therefore, we can say that we prepared our activity according to our goals and
objectives.

How did we decide our materials?

When preparing our activities, we paid attention to ensure that the material is suitable for children's
ages. We chose materials which easy to find and natural materials. In addition, in terms of materials
designed by the teacher, the visual materials we prepared that will attract both the attention of the
children and make it easier for them to learn. Since the presentations, videos and posters which we
prepare are visual materials, they are both materials that make children curious and internalize the
topic. Therefore, we should not prepare in accordance with the preschool age group, so we tried to
make it as simple and understandable as possible. Apart from these, we can say that our materials
are easily accessible by every teacher who will make the activities.
What is the background of activities?

In our activities, we think that the skills that we want to get to children are vital. Teacher wants to get
children adopt the healthy life habits and to do that he/she enables children to participate actively in
the activity and gives a chance to children to live hands-on experiences.

How to benefit from these materials?

These materials are designed for young children to get the concepts easily. Teacher can use these
materials to teach young children the healthy and unhealthy foods. Also with these materials
children understand the importance of doing sports and comprehend what cleaning materials are
used to cope with microbes. Also, the teacher can measure the nutritional habits of children and
prepare the activity plan accordingly. Moreover, teacher determines how much give should
importance the parents participate in the activities so.

How to plan activities for learner participation?

When we write the activities we mostly give importance to get the children self-care skills that is
active participation is the most important requirement in this activity. With active engagement, for
example children have a chance to using cleaning materials and learn how they can be used. Also, in
this activity, children will not only develop their own self-care skills, but also their self-confidence will
be supported as children clean their toys themselves.

How did we choose evaluation materials?

Firstly for evaluation, we ask different questions to measure the gaining. After measuring the
children's gains from the activities, homework is given to make these gains a habit and to ensure
continuity. Teacher ensure this of course with parent involvement because according to Maria
Montessori the learning process and dynamic link are not the direct information transfer from the
child to the child, but a process in which the child gains developmental skills in daily life in schools
and other settings. That’s why we give lots of importance to parent involvement.
