Total number of answers 6 4

Interpretation of self-diagnosis results:

1. Fewer than 5 answers checked “yes,” indicate your communication is deficient, which can generate
conflicts among people, as well as frustration and lack of motivation.

2. 6 to 8 answers checked “yes” indicate you have good communication, but it could improve.
Remember that the work environment is characterized by peace and the assurance of achieving
results.

3. More than 8 answers checked “yes” indicate your communication as excellent. Thanks to this, your
coworkers and collaborators feel motivated and willing to keep improving because the organization
objectives are clear and feedback is given so they can improve their performance.
Questions for reflection:

1. What positive behaviors could you identify in the way you communicate?

Whenever I communicate with someone, I always try to understand their point of view and how they
feel. I just don’t listen to their words, but I also pay attention on their body language and their tone.
Once I have understood what they said and meant, I tailor my words and intentions to fit theirs and
have an effective communication.

2. What behaviors of yours do you feel need improving?

Why I have notice I need to improve when communicating with someone is that I need to stop giving
a lot of examples of my experience in any given situation. There are sometimes where people just
want to be heard and bringing this kind of comments is selfish and breaks the communication. For
this to be improved, three actions can be taken:

• Always listen to people’s situation in order to understand them before giving any response.
• Instead of giving personal examples, try to use generic examples or, instead, don’t give any
example at all.
• Ask them is they just want to be heard of they really are requesting an advice from you.

3. How do you think your way of communicating affects people and results?

Communication is about words and interactions, and words can be a powerful tool to motivate
someone or bring someone down. What we days, or even what we don’t say, might influence directly
someone and the way they behave, specially within an organization.

4. What factors do you think influence the way you communicate with others?

There are many different factors that may affect the way one communicated with other, but I think
three of them are important: cultural diversity, emotions and situation. These three combined can
really influence either in a positive or negative manner the way we communicate with each other.

5. What conclusions can you make based on these observations that will allow you to improve your
communication as a leader, both in the work environment and in your personal environment?
I really think that the most important thing to improve in an important way communication is to put
in the other’s shoes. Always consider what they feel and what they think. Once you understand this
part of the communication it’ll be easier to know what to say or how to act. If the first thing isn’t
properly done is like going blind when communicating. First listen and understand and therefore
start to communicate.
