The internet is a technology that has revolutionized the entire world. The way that we think, conduct
business, communicate, and entertain ourselves, have all changed dramatically because of internet.
The web can be accessed easily anywhere and everywhere. It is difficult to imagine our world
without the internet, but would it be better? It’s hard to truly break down the effects of the internet on
society, but the best way to start is by examining all of the benefits and drawbacks that we know of.

Internet has some advantages for human being. First, internet provides unlimited access to
Information. Anything you need to know can be found and learned on the internet. There are millions
websites that provide different types of topics. Second, Internet can bridge the culture gap. People
can connect to people all over the world because of internet connection. Third, internet gives us a
big opportunity to develop business and marketing. The ability to reach wider markets, collect
valuable research on potential customers, and conduct business all over the world, has created a
virtual business boom in history of mankind.

In spite of having those advantages, internet has also some disadvantages. First, Internet is a
potential breeding ground for Illegal activity. Since everyone can access internet easily, illegal
activity can also be done more easily through this technology. Second, the world is becoming more
dependent to internet. All of our important information such as our medical records, criminal records,
educational records, and finance records are very dependent on the security of the sites that they
reside on. So if one virus is designed well enough to break through the security, it can shut down the
economy. The last, children are vulnerable and exposed by the internet. Pornographic material is the
most prominent, and children can very easily stumble upon these types of websites and be exposed
to things that they should not be.

In conclusion, internet and its both advantages and disadvantages are now happening in our world.
If we use it wisely, we will get so many advantages and vise versa.

Keuntungan dan Kerugian dari Internet

Internet adalah teknologi yang telah merubah seluruh dunia. Cara kita berpikir, perilaku bisnis,
komunikasi, dan menghibur diri kita sendiri, semua telah berubah secara dramatis dikarenakan
internet. web dapat diakses dengan mudah di mana saja. Sulit untuk membayangkan bagaimana
dunia tanpa internet, tapi akankah itu lebih baik? Sulit untuk benar-benar bisa memecahkan efek
dari internet dalam masyarakat, tapi cara terbaik untuk memulainya adalah dengan mengetahui
semua manfaat dan kelemahannya.

Internet memiliki beberapa keuntungan bagi kehidupan manusia. Pertama, internet menyediakan
akses yang tak terbatas dalam bidang Informasi. Apa pun yang Anda ingin ketahui dapat ditemukan
dan dipelajari dengan internet. Ada jutaan website yang menyediakan berbagai jenis topik. Kedua,
Internet dapat memberikan solusi terbaik dalam menghadapi kesenjangan budaya. Orang dapat
terhubung dengan orang di seluruh dunia karena koneksi internet. Ketiga, internet memberikan
kesempatan besar untuk mengembangkan bisnis dan pemasaran, Kemampuan untuk menjangkau
pasar yang lebih luas, mengumpulkan penelitian yang berharga pada potensial pelanggan, dan

Social networks help the businesses in a variety of ways. Traditional marketing mediums
such as the radio, TV commercials and print ads are completely obsolete now and demand for
thousands of dollars. However, with social media the businesses can connect with their
targeted customers for free, the only cost is energy and time. Through Facebook, Twitter,

everyday life. And kids can be greatly affected by these social networking sites if they are
allowed to use them. The reason is that sometimes people share photos on social media that
contains violence and sex, which can damage the behavior of kids and teenagers. It put the
negative impact on overall society as these kids and teenagers involve themselves in crime
related activities.
Another downside of the social media is that the user shares too much information
which may pose threats to them. Even with the tight security settings your personal
information may leak on the social sites. Downloading your videos or pictures and copying your
status is an easy task and can be done within few clicks.

Effects of Bullying
Bullying can affect everyone those who are bullied, those who bully, and those
who witness bullying. Bullying is linked to many negative outcomes including impacts on
mental health, substance use, and suicide. It is important to talk to kids to determine
whether bullying or something else is a concern.
Kids who are bullied can experience negative physical, school, and mental health
issues. Kids who are bullied are more likely to experience: a) Depression and anxiety,
increased feelings of sadness and loneliness, changes in sleep and eating patterns, and
loss of interest in activities they used to enjoy. These issues may persist into adulthood;
b) Health complaints and 3) Decreased academic achievement GPA and standardized
test scoresand school participation. They are more likely to miss, skip, or drop out of
school.
A very small number of bullied children might retaliate through extremely violent
measures. In 12 of 15 school shooting cases in the 1990s, the shooters had a history of
being bullied. Kids who bully others can also engage in violent and other risky behaviors
into adulthood. Kids who bully are more likely to: Abuse alcohol and other drugs in
adolescence and as adults; Get into fights, vandalize property, and drop out of school;
Engage in early sexual activity; Have criminal convictions and traffic citations as adults;
Be abusive toward their romantic partners, spouses, or children as adults.
Media reports often link bullying with suicide. However, most youth who are
bullied do not have thoughts of suicide or engage in suicidal behaviors; Although kids
who are bullied are at risk of suicide, bullying alone is not the cause. Many issues
contribute to suicide risk, including depression, problems at home, and trauma history.
Additionally, specific groups have an increased risk of suicide, including American Indian
and Alaskan Native, Asian American, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth. This
 risk can be increased further when these kids are not supported by parents, peers, and
schools. Bullying can make an unsupportive situation worse.

Garbage is a major problem in most cities of Indonesia. People unawareness is one of the main
causes to this problem. Improper and not adequate garbage container, infirmness of
government and law officers in doing law enforcement, inadequate rules and laws concerning
this matter are another cause to the garbage problem. Like any other big cities of Indonesia, in
Medan garbage is also a big problem and should have a serious attention. Hundreds tonnes of
garbage are produced every day either from household waste, industrial, hospital, market
waste, etc. The garbage trucks available seems not sufficient to collect all garbage produced
daily and deliver them to garbage dump located outside of Medan, even though the trucks
operated almost 24 hours a day. Still in certain place, some of the garbage is remaining
uncollected engulfed in a thick, foul-smelling smoke within a matter of days. Unawareness and
indiscipline of certain people is a very basic problem in handling garbage in Medan. Some
people still not understand the importance of disposing rubbish or garbage in proper place. The
litterbugs throw rubbish and household waste to water drainage or river. Ironically some of
them live nearby the river and use the river for bathing, washing their clothes and moreover,
for cooking. The slum residents appear to have little knowledge about waste awareness. Some
upper class people also involve in littering the road. They throw cigarette butt, food wrapping,
and plastic bags over car window. Unfortunately, these litterbugs remain untouchable by law.
There is no law enforcement or maybe there is still no law concerning about littering in Medan.
Some industrial companies which do not have waste treatment dump their industrial waste
directly to the nearby river. They become the largest contributors together with household
waste to the pollutions of some rivers around Medan. The water quality of the rivers declining
by the day, contributed to the deterioration of the river. The rivers look dirty and bad smell,
polluted with toxic waste, causing health hazards and environmental damage. Lots of people
who use the polluted river water suffering skin disease. Some of them also get health problem
like diarrhea after consuming the contaminated river water. Bapedal (Environment Waste
Management Agency) regularly get samples and gathered evidence of river pollution but any
action was dependent on law enforcement officials. Some companies still untouchable and
continuously dump their wastes to the river, no need to build waste treatment. For this kind of
violation, the government should make a clear action like closing the company operation until
they complete building the waste treatment facility. If they fail to meet this requirement, the
company should be permanently closed. Dealing with garbage collection and transportation in
Medan, some new trucks had been purchased to replace old improper condition trucks. Using
the old open-top trucks, some rubbish still falling down to the road during delivering to the
dump site. Medan now is much cleaner than before, but still need more improvement. In some
places, the rubbish sometimes remains uncollected for a few days, whereas in general the
rubbish collected daily or three times a week.
If you walk or drive in Medan, you will hardly can see rubbish bin along the road. Some rubbish
bin can be found near market or shopping center, but not many. If you expect to see a separate
bin for organic (wet and dry) and non organic rubbish, you will spend half day driving along the
city to find it out. You will amaze to see some reckless driver throwing any rubbish over the car
windows, or pedestrian throwing paper or plastic bag to the ground or ditch. No needs to run
away after doing that, because even though you do it in front of policeman, you will not get
caught and got penalty or worse brought to jail. Very pity..!! Actually these kinds of people
needed to be educated. Penalty is one of education needed to answers this problem.
Unfortunately, the rule is not good enough. Now let us go and see in housing complex. Rubbish
bin is provided in front of each house. The rubbishes are stored in plastic bag before being
throwed to the bin. Just wait for the truck to come and collect the rubbish. It is good if the
rubbish can be collected every 2 days. Well, in some good housing complex, the truck can come
every day, but most cases are every 3 or 4 days. The trucks finally go to garbage dump site,
located outside of Medan where the garbage dump trucks will dump the garbage. There come
rubbish recyclers trying to get something from the garbage for living. They sort everything they
can get and sell it. Anyhow, they are still able to feed themselves and save money to send back
to their children in the village. Is there any garbage incinerator? Not yet in Medan. They have
built it in Bogor (near Jakarta), incinerate the garbage and the resultant ash will be used to
make concrete brick. Still long way to go to get an integrated waste treatment, a combination
of recycling, composting, incineration, and sanitary landfills. No wonder people lives nearby the
dump site protesting the location of dump site because their neighborhood got polluted.
Jakarta government now gets big headaches because people demanding to close the massive
Bantar Gebang dump site. Jakarta’s governor even has urged people to burn their garbage! To
overcome the problem, the following should be performed immediately: 1. Educate people
directly or using any media available (TV, radio, newspaper, magazine, internet, etc.) about
littering and garbage/waste dumping. This kind of education should be done continuously. 2. To
prepare enough rubbish bins along the road, market, school, etc., better if there are a separate
bin for organic (wet and dry) and non organic rubbish. This is also a media for educating people
in handling rubbish and the rubbish sorting had been started in very beginning. This garbage
should be collected in daily basis. 3. To do law enforcement. Litterbug or company which
wastes the river, lake, or sky should be seriously punished, and people should know about this
process. 4. To provide enough trucks to collect all the garbage, and transporting the garbage to
dump site regularly. No rubbish left in the city every day. 5. Finally, to build a good waste
treatment, doing composting, incineration, and sanitary landfills that can produce methane
gasses as an alternative energy sources.
