Student’s Perception on Contraceptive Vending Machine in Schools

The rate of the pregnant teenager in Thailand is pretty high comparing to the other

country around the World. According to the Public Health Ministry's Bureau of Reproductive

Health (2015).. according to the Public Health Ministry's Bureau of Reproductive Health

(2015). During puberty, the human body is starting to change and one of the thing that can’t

be avoid and being overlooked is intercourse. Condom can be used as contraceptive to

prevent the spread of STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) and pregnancy. Condom is 98%

effective from preventing pregnancy without other birth control product. It can greatly help

someone who are not ready to have child. So, setting up condom vending machine in the

schools may lower the risk of students getting pregnant and spread of infectious disease.

The purpose of this research is to know the perception of MUIDS students on

contraceptive vending machine. The importance of this research is to remind the students

about their awareness toward STDs and pregnancy. The author use three different news

article to relate the results and interpretation of the survey to other research studies.

The question that the survey asked was, do they they agree to have the contraceptive

vending machine in school. The choices are yes, no, and let’s not talk about it. The figure

shows that the majority of students who did the survey of 75% answered “yes.”For who don’t

want to talk about this topic and who say “no” got the percentage of 13.5% and 11.5%. Most

of them accept to setup the contraceptive vending machine in the school area, so they are well
aware about the spread of STDs and pregnancy. While some people may think this kind of

things are too embarrassing for them and are not ready for contraceptive vending machine.

Male condoms are safe and effective contraceptive. According to Planned Parenthood,

If used correctly the effectiveness of condom will be 98 percent, the percentage of

effectiveness will drop to 85 if use incorrectly. It also provide protection against STIs that are

transmitted through bodily fluids. Condoms act as the protection from bodily fluid that cause

infection (Fletcher, 2018). Plus, with the proper teaching of health science the school will

make their students to be more knowledgeable about the contraceptive and will prevent the

rate of the pregnant teenager and sexually transmitted disease. If some students get pregnant,

they might get worried about telling their family and friends. Keeping the problem to

themselves and not getting the help they need, so this can lead to problems in home and at

school (Carey, 2018).So, If the school purchase the contraceptive vending machine and teach

the students about how to put on the protection the story like this will not happen to the

students.
