STATEMENT OF FAITH

We believe the Bible to be the inspired, infallible, ultimately authoritative Word of God.

We believe there is one God, eternally existing as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is deity; that He was born of a virgin, that we are
redeemed by His atoning death through His shed blood, that He bodily resurrected and
ascended into Heaven, and that He will come again in power and great glory.

We believe that individuals are saved through a direct, personal encounter with the
risen Lord, at which time they are regenerated by the Holy Spirit. This event we hold to be
an experience, rather than a doctrinal supposition.

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whom Christ indwells each
believer, enabling them to live a godly life of obedience as he/she reaches for maturity.

CITYGATE NETWORK

Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities is a member of Citygate Network

(http://www.citygatenetwork.org) a community of missions founded in 1913 and
formerly known as (the Association of Gospel Rescue Missions).
Today, Citygate Network has around 300 members across North America. Each year,
Citygate member missions serve 66 million meals, provide more than 20 million
nights of shelter and housing, assist some 45,000 people in finding employment,
provide clothing to more than 750,000 people, and graduate nearly 17,000 men and
women who have experienced homelessness and addition, from programs and
recovery into productive living.
In all of this, Citygate Network is there to tell and re-tell the story of gospel powered
life transformation while connecting a broad coalition of its members to current
news and creative ideas. Citygate provides networking opportunities for ministries
and businesses to achieve higher levels of professionalism, strategic priorities and
desired outcomes.

PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

ADDICTION
The Christ Recovery Center provides recovery for men
struggling with late-stage addiction to alcohol or other
substances. The program is designed for those who have
exhausted their opportunities in other community
treatment programs.

The Center has a high success rate and a strong reputation as a men’s recovery
center serving men from Minneapolis, St. Paul, and surrounding communities helping
men get off the street, restore their relationship with God and others, and improve
their lives.

DISCIPLESHIP
Since 2004, the Discipleship program at Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities has
immersed men experiencing homelessness in the principles of God’s Word while
building skills for a successful life. We believe that, if one has a right relationship with
God, all other aspects of life will improve.

The program is full time, and uses a multi-faceted approach to facilitate hope and
healing. It includes a customized education program, including GED and an integrated

job training program to earn money, build a resume, and improve job skills.

Men live at the Union Gospel Mission Men’s Campus while in the program.

EDUCATION
The LifeNet program provides a personalized approach to education and job training.
It takes men and women from where they are to where they want to go, building on
their education and life experience so they are fully prepared to move back into
society.

LifeNet has an average of 50 individuals at any given time

and includes three phases:

Ready: Stabilization Phase – Participation in Bible study,

academic studies including GED if needed, digital literacy
and writing.

Set: Recovery Phase – Continued work on their academic and soft skills while
exploring career options. They being gathering information for a job application and
work on building career-related attitudes and skills.

Go: Transition Phase – Becoming more intentional about preparing for the job search
through interview preparation, identifying a job search strategy, and preparing a
skills-based resume.

FOOD
HOPE BEGINS WITH A MEAL
Union Gospel Mission food programs feed the hungry and
homeless and provide meals for low-income men, women,
and children. The Mission runs 2 kitchens, using paid and
volunteer staff and residents who work every day of the
year to prepare thousands of meals.

A meal at the Mission is often the first step toward a new life. Guests come in and
learn about the life-changing programs and often begin a fresh start.

The Mission feeds anyone who comes–no questions asked or expectations given.
Individuals are offered hospitality and treated with dignity. Sometimes a person’s
hunger is just a symptom of a deeper need. Opening the door at the Mission for a
meal might just be the first step toward finding God’s greater plan for their lives.

HEALTH CARE
The health care programs promote health and wellness through free therapeutic and
medical services for the men, women, and children who reside at the Mission.

To meet the growing mental health care needs among people experiencing
homelessness, mental health services have expanded by opening a new onsite clinic.
The clinic provides Individual therapy, group therapy; Intelligence, learning,
neuropsychological and personality testing; Inter-disciplinary case management for
all Mission residents and conversations about God as invited and appropriate.

In partnership with Healthcare for the Homeless, the Mission provides basic health
care to residents and emergency shelter clients. The team screens for tuberculosis,
administers and manages medications, and treats minor injuries.

Thousands of people in need have gotten quality dental care through the Mission’s
free dental clinic. As of October 2017, the clinic has branched off as Hope Dental
Clinic. The warm and friendly clinic offers the same quality dental services as always
at little to no cost including cleanings, extractions, and more.

SHELTER
Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities offers shelter to
people experiencing homelessness or addiction.
Homelessness can happen to anyone. A job loss, a
long-term disability, divorce, abuse – the reasons for
homelessness vary as much as the people who come
through the doors. Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities
offers more than a safe night of sleep. Union Gospel Mission provides time to heal
and the tools to rebuild a life. Christ-centered programs care for the whole person
until they can get back on their feet.

Naomi Family Residence offers shelter for women and children escaping
abuse, battling addiction, and struggling with homelessness and poverty. This
women’s shelter provides a safe place to sleep and 3 meals a day. UGMTC also
provides a full program designed to build family stability by helping to meet the
physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of women and children in crisis.

Through personal care and individualized case management, women set life goals,
grow spiritually, and create a plan for self-sufficiency. Our individualized approach

equips women with the confidence to move forward and, with God’s help, to once
again be able to be provide for themselves and their children. Naomi Family
Residence (NFR) also offers transitional housing.

Since 1902, men facing hardship have come to Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities to
rebuild their lives. The men’s shelter called the Bethel Hotel offers men facing
homelessness a clean bed, a hot meal, a warm shower and, most of all, an
opportunity to get back on their feet.

The Transitional Housing program equips men living in the Bethel Hotel with
the spiritual support and life skills necessary to continue their success when they
leave the Mission. This support includes physical and mental healthcare needs, job
training, and help finding safe, affordable housing

YOUTH
Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities prepares children and youth to succeed in life
through Christ-centered programming. The organization stays committed to the goal
of creating disciples of Christ who value themselves and others and have the tools to
succeed in school and in life. From babies to high school graduates, the Mission loves
to bless the youngest members of our Mission community and their families.

The Child Development Center is a safe place for young

children to grow holistically through active learning
centers and group activities. Children learn to respect
themselves and others and prepare to succeed in school.
The program also supports parents by providing relevant
resources to assist them in parenting and engaging them
with “grandparent” volunteers who give them love and
attention. The program is offered to children who live at the Mission’s Naomi Family
Residence or the community and is open to children ages 6 weeks to kindergarten.

Case management for children provides mentoring, counseling and personalized care
so kids facing trauma can receive the therapeutic, educational, and spiritual care they
need to succeed.

Many of the children who come to Naomi Family Residence have experienced
trauma. The needs of the whole child are focused on through a variety of group
activities and individual sessions.

Through a partnership with Bethel University, the Bethel Buddies program offers
students ages 6 to 17 the opportunity to excel through one-on-one mentoring and
tutoring from university students.

The Ober Community Center reaches out to elementary through high school youth
and their families who live in St. Paul neighborhoods. Summer programming provides
opportunities for kids to develop new skills and be mentored by caring adults in a
safe environment.

THE POSITION…

The Chief Financial Officer is the senior financial executive responsible for the
leadership, oversight and strategic direction for all aspects of the finance,
accounting, Information Technology, and Facilities functions in alignment with
UGMTC vision, mission and goals. This includes advisory responsibility to the CEO and
all Department Leaders on their financial plans, budgets and modeling. As an Officer
of Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities, along with the CEO and Board of Directors, the
Chief Financial Officer is ultimately responsible for all fiscal and fiduciary
responsibilities for the organization and serves as a member of the UGMTC’s
executive leadership team.

The successful candidate will possess a growth mindset open to constructive

feedback, high emotional and relational intelligence, strong executive presence and
interpersonal communication skills in addition to the ability to successfully navigate
conflict resolution.

Essential Responsibilities:
• Exercises independent and professional judgment in planning, setting direction
and decision-making regarding the operations, administration, processes and
procedures for the Accounting department.
• Participates in the formulation of overall organizational strategy; plays a
significant role in carrying out the organizational strategy.
• Leads and directs the execution of all UGMTC’s financial strategies and operations
including: accounting and reporting, working capital, capital expenditures, debt
management, cash management, investments, tax, audit, budgeting, and real
estate. Ensures accuracy, compliance and alignment with UGMTC’s goals.
• Develops tools, reporting and systems to provide critical financial and operational
information and analysis to the CEO, Executive Leadership team, and Board of
Directors, as needed, to support recommendations, evaluate potential
partnerships, acquisitions or mergers, long-range planning, contracts, and
introduction of new programs or business models.
• Continuously assesses legal, legislative and regulatory developments and business
activities related to UGMTC operational strategies.
• Selects, engages and manages relationships with outside consultants and
partnerships on behalf of UGMTC (auditors, investment advisors, vendors, banking).

• Works closely with Vice President of Development to ensure that revenue budget
meets program and operational needs.
• Manages cash flow and forecasting. Develops a reliable cash flow projection
process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash threshold to meet
operating needs.
• Oversees the organizational $15 million budgeting process, proactively seeking
innovative and efficient ways of accomplishing the strategic objectives while
working with department managers to develop their budgets.
• Oversees Accounting function, ensuring sound business practices and compliance
with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and applicable federal, state and
local laws and regulatory requirements.
• Oversees Information Technology function, providing direction on IT strategy,
internal service approach, outsourced capabilities, network and equipment
infrastructure, and cyber/ information risk management.
• Oversees the organizational Facilities functions, providing direction on capital
construction initiatives and proactive maintenance of existing physical assets.
• Enforces safety and occupational health policies and procedures;
• Leads with a Christ-centered approach to hiring, firing, managing, evaluating,
training and developing their team. Recruits and selects staff aligned with UGMTC
statement of faith.
• May lead prayer and devotions with team members; attends UGMTC sponsored
spiritual enrichment activities.
• Teach, train and cultivate financial knowledge and capabilities within the
organization to further the ability of leaders to better understand and apply
financial concepts.
• Represents the Christian values and ethics of UGMTC when interacting with
donors, clients, staff and community.

Management Responsibilities
The CFO reports to the CEO. Positions reporting to the CFO are a Facilities Director,
Information Technology Manager, Senior Accountant and two Accountants.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; Master’s Degree in Accounting or
MBA preferred
• 10 years of broad accounting and finance experience
• 5 years of management experience, managing an accounting or finance function
• Advanced knowledge of nonprofit accounting and GAAP
• CPA preferred
• Nonprofit Board experience, preferred

• Experience or desire to work with underserved communities and people
experiencing homelessness or poverty and a passion for the mission of Union
Gospel Mission Twin Cities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• Support UGMTC’s statement of Christian faith and has desire to share that faith,
prayer and knowledge with staff, volunteers and clients. Ability to demonstrate by
supporting the ministry of UGMTC and investing in personal spiritual growth.
• Understands biblical concepts and principles; able to transfer these concepts and
principles through teaching, coaching, and mentoring.
• Strong analytical skill and experience interpreting strategy into an operational
business plan.
• Ability to work well across a variety of functions, programs and people at all levels.
• Must have high attention to detail and ability complete responsibilities accurately.
• Must maintain confidentiality and reliability.
• Advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills, especially Excel, and database software
applications.
• Advanced skills using financial information management systems for financial and
accounting applications. ADP WorkforceNow and NetSuite preferred.
• Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
• Demonstrated ability to develop policies and procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to design and develop financial and operational reports.
• Ability to gather data, compile information, analyze trends, define problems, and
identify solutions.
