In the May 16 issue of The Blanchard News, Blanchard
Superintendent Jim Beckham blatantly accused EPIC Charter Schools
of trying to recruit students by sending the names of its National Honor
Society (NHS) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) inductees
who reside in Blanchard to the local newspaper. We were shocked that
we would be criticized for bringing to the attention of the Blanchard
newspaper the academic achievement of students who live in Blanchard.
With 24,000 students residing across every county and most towns
in our great state, EPIC’s efforts to recognize the exceptional academic
achievements of its students who reside in Blanchard is no different
than Superintendent Beckham’s efforts to recognize his students who
reside in Blanchard.
EPIC students who were inducted into NHS and NJHS this school
year each worked exceptionally hard for this distinction. Not only did
they hold themselves to the highest academic standards but they also
committed to a program of public service in their communities. Such
achievement and commitment deserves to be celebrated.
Sincerely,
Shelly Hickman, M.Ed., Assistant Superintendent
EPIC Charter Schools
