China-Myanmar Economic Corridor office set up in Nay Pyi Taw

An office of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor of the China Enterprises


Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar (CECCM) was set up in Nay Pyi Taw on May
17, reported Xinhua.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the office in Zabuthiri township, Myanmar


Commerce Deputy Minister Aung Htoo said that the office could help offer better
job opportunities for the trade link between the two nations.

Chinese Ambassador Hong Liang said the branch office will boost communication
and cooperation between the CECCM and relevant Myanmar government
departments. It also helps the Chinese embassy better implement its work and
benefits companies participating in the Belt and Road Initiative.

The 1,060-km pipeline that carries crude oil and natural gas from the Middle East
to China and links Myanmar's coastal town Kyaukphyu with southwest China's
Kunming city, is part of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor.

The Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry


(UMFCCI) Secretary-General Aung Kyi Soe said the China-Myanmar Economic
Corridor Office will help entrepreneurs of the two nations operate their businesses
transparently and smoothly and also help create jobs for the people.

To promote trade and investment through the economic corridor, a Myanmar-


China Business Association has been formed under the UMFCCI.

CECCM Chairman Liu Ying said the office will explore economic cooperation by
combining Myanmar's business status and Chinese companies' advantages.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing meets Chinese Ambassador Hong Liang
Myanmar Tatmadaw Commander-in-Chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing
received Chinese Ambassador Hong Liang, who has completed his tour of duty, in
Nay Pyi Taw on May 13, according to news reports.

During the meeting in Nay Pyi Taw, the two leaders discussed friendly relations
and cooperation between the two nations.

They also discussed military issues, China’s support in helping Myanmar achieve
lasting peace, border trade, how China’s Belt and Road Initiative will lead to
beneficial projects for Myanmar, and how China stands firmly by Myanmar’s side
in the international arena regarding the issues in Rakhine.

Talk on Role of Women Leaders in Increasing Resistance to Adversity

A talk on “Role of Women Leaders in Increasing Resistance to Adversity” was


held at the Thingaha Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw on May 14, reported the state-run
newspaper The Global New Light of Myanmar.

Vice President Henry Van Thio’s wife Dr. Shwe Hlwan delivered an opening
speech at the talk.

In her opening speech, Dr. Shwe Hlwan said the day’s talk was led by MRCS, and
it (MRCS) was the only Red Cross organization in Myanmar.

She said that MRCS was formed under MRCS Law as the country’s reserve force
in the humanitarian assistance sector.

It is providing support and assistance without discriminating with regard to race,


religion, political belief and gender with the aim of developing mutual friendship
and understanding among human beings and peace in the country and abroad, she
said.
