Adventure Trip

Part 1: Budget

The first order of business when planning my trip to Canada is finding proper transportation. A

round trip nonstop flight to Canada from San Diego International Airport is $410. While I am in

Canada however, there will be more transportation expenses. Since I will be traveling from

Vancouver to Montreal, I will need to pay for train trips which come out to an estimated $50. In

addition I will take uber from wherever I am staying to get food and travel to certain destinations

or activities. For lodging, I will be staying in Sutton Place Hotel which comes out to $5010 for

15 days. When I travel to Montreal I will be staying at the Sofitel Montreal Golden Mile Hotel

which is more costly at $6,300 for 15 days. For food, I have estimated that I will be spending $50

per day, which is $1550 for the entire month. I will also have to take care of some miscellaneous

items that cost money. Some of these costs include laundry, toiletries, clothes and internet for the

month that come out to a total of $170. As far as activities go, in Canada I will be taking part in

many indoor activities and also many outdoor activities and explorations. Indoors I will be going

to clubs for live music and dancing, I will be going to concerts and seeing new artists. Outdoors I

will be taking part in many nature hikes and sightseeing. All of these activities combined will

cost $340. In all, the total cost of my trip will be $14,180.

In order to pay for this expensive trip, I will be working at my Del Mar Lifeguarding job. I make

$12 an hour and if I work 26 hours per week I can make $312 per week. I would spend around

$50 per week, leaving me with $262 per week which means that I would have to save for 55

weeks in order to pay for the entire trip.

Part 3: Culture

While I am in Canada, I will be exploring the wilderness and also the city environments. I will be

spending the first half of my trip in Vancouver, where I will be close to Vancouver island, City

attractions and eateries, and adverse wildlife. I will be taking an uber and then a ferry to get to

vancouver island. This island is seemingly worshiped by the people of Vancouver. I would be

respectful of the island, as the people of the island and the people of canada are proud of the

sheer beauty of the island. It is covered by flowers of all types and colors, and people can spend

the whole day wandering through the fields. On the way to the island you can spot wild Orca

Whales and Otters in the surrounding freezing ocean. The culture of Canada is also very outdoor

related. Most people in Canada are very active, and spend a large amount of time mountain

biking, hiking, and jogging, but my go to will be hiking. When hiking in Canada you must be

respectful of all of the plants and animals that live in the area. As a tourist, I will stay on the

marked path while hiking in advanced spots. I will focus mainly on parts of Vancouver, but then

make my way up to Whistler via train for a day or so for a hiking side trip. If I am hiking I will

make sure to stay on the right side of the paths at all times, and not to get in the way of any trail

runners ort mountain bikers. Apart from the time that I will be spending in the outdoors, I will be

walking around the city of Vancouver and seeing what there is to do downtown. Vancouver itself

is known for its beauty as it is surrounded by large snowy mountains and multiple parks. One of

these parks is called Stanley Park, which is the most visited attraction in all of British Columbia
for its totem poles and trails. Along with the amazing attractions that Vancouver has to offer, the

culture revolves around fresh and locally caught seafood. Vancouver is very well known for the

wonderful salmon caught in the cities seaport.

During the Second part of my travels I will stay in Montreal for fifteen days. This portion of the

trip will be a lot less nature involving, and include much more wandering around the city. The

culture in this city is much more like New York or London, having more people, a larger city and

much more to do in the actual city. Since I will not be staying in the suburbs of the city I will be

exposed to the great food options, infamous nightlife, and wonderful views. The main reason that

I will be visiting montreal will be to visit churches and monuments such as Old Montreal or the

Notre-Dame Basilica. In both of these places I will have to be respectful and be quiet while

acting humbled by the opportunity to taste a small portion of Canada’s history.

Part 4: Rationale

Ever Since I started walking before my first birthday I have been told by my parents that I need

the outdoors. I learned to mountain bike and do jumps at age four while i was living in Canada

for a year. Since my father has moved around so many times for his job I never was able to grow

up in one single place, but my mother swears that our favorite was Canada, before we moved to

California of course. In Canada my mom used to take me out on walks every morning because I

had too much energy to be kept inside the house. We would walk for miles every day to go see

the horses at the local horse ranch and then walk back. I miss being able to go for walks alone
and not see any development around me, I miss being able to wake up to cold air and snow on

the ground, and I miss being active year round, so that is why I want to get a taste for that

lifestyle again on my trip. I feel as if I belong in Canada for some reason and that I would love to

live there, so this trip is going to be a trail for me. I also know that I want to live an active

lifestyle. In California there are some very active people, but in Canada the majority of people

are active. Canada just seems to have figured it all out. The people that live in Canada are

stereotypically nicer, they give more privilege to younger people, there is a far lower national

average weight than the U.S. and the people that live there are taken care of and heard by their

government. I will also be going into Environmental studies and the energy business later in life,

and so for that reason I think that my Canada trip could kill two birds with one stone. I believe

that I would be able to have an awesome time visiting Canada and seeing all that my two

destinations have to offer while also seeing if I would ever want to live in either one of those

places. Canada like the United States is very innovative, and a first world country and I know

that Canada is very environmentally involved so it may be easier to get a job in a area that I

really enjoy. There are a plethora of environmental and energy companies that are stationed in

Canada and that are doing very well, so by going on this trip I would be able to maybe meet with

representatives in this field depending on what age I am and what position I am in when I decide

to make my voyage. Overall I think that my rationale for visiting Canada is that it is a beautiful

place with beautiful people, the lifestyle of its inhabitants is very relaxed, while also active and

outdoorsy, and because I may find work later in life in Canada and I want to get a feel for what

life is like in Canada first hand.
