Activity “Pera O Bayong”?

Mechanics:
1.Prepare 10 statements about the topic.
2.Set the mood of the class likened to a game show.
3.Let them identify if the statement is fact or opinion.
4.Prepare the video and sound clips for the activity
5.Students will form a line on letter A if they think it is a fact
and they will form a line on letter B if they think it is an
opinion.
6. Call a student and let them answer why they think it is a
fact or opinion.

Process Questions:
Analysis 1.How did you find the activity?
( 2.How did you know it’s a fact?
3.How did you know it’s an opinion?
5.How will you define a fact?
6.How will you define an opinion?

Abstraction 1.Highlight the following on discussion:


(10 minutes) • A fact is verifiable.
•We can determine whether it is true by researching the
evidence.
• This may involve numbers, dates, testimony, etc. (Ex.:
“World War II ended in 1945.”) The truth of the fact is beyond
argument if one can assume that measuring devices or records
or memories are correct.
• An opinion is a judgment based on facts.
• It’s an honest attempt to draw a reasonable conclusion
from factual evidence.
• An opinion is potentially changeable—depending on
how the evidence is interpreted. By themselves, opinions have
little power to convince.

Assessment PEN AND PAPER TEST
(15 minutes) The teacher will prepare a test using the Venn diagram to
differentiate fact from opinion.

FACT OPINION
Ask the students to search on the internet a factual articles
Assignment/Agreement about our country (province, municipality), and make 3
opinions out of those articles.

Activity/Strategy: “Who Owns Who?”


(7minutes) Students will be grouped into five. Each group will be tasked to locate
a fact and asked to cite the sources on their own using the materials
provided.

Group 1: Books
Group 2: Electronic Sources
Group 3: Periodicals
Group 4: Videos
Group 5: hand-outs
Analysis The teacher will ask the following questions to deepen student’s
(10 minutes) understanding of the activity:
1. How do you feel about the activity?
2. Do you find it easy or difficult to cite sources?why?
2. What are your realizations?
3. Why do we need numerous references in our academic write-ups?
4. Why is there a need to acknowledge the author and cite sources properly?
Abstraction 1.The teacher will let the students watch the video on “How to Create
(10minutes) a Reference List in APA Style” by Peter Gallagher.
2. Teacher will go back to the answer of the students on the activity part and
let the students rewrite the answer and present it to the class.
4. Teacher and student together will define and differentiate the two types of
citation based on the activity.

Process Questions:
1. What are the key features of APA style bibliography format?
2. How will you properly cite sources in In-text citation and
reference citation?
Teacher can present a number of examples of in-text citation and
reference citation for reinforcement.
Application The teacher will provide a topic to the students. They will research
(25 minutes). about their topic in the library, citing sources/ bibliography using books or
internet sources if available using the two types of citation.

Process Question:

2. What problems/difficulties have you encountered during the activity?
3. How does citing sources make our argument strong?
4. Why do we need to support our claims or opinions with factual
evidences?

(5 minutes)
Identification: Identify what type of citation is being used in the
following sentences.
