use drugs and the conditions associated with drug use can

lead to guilt and isolation among people who use drugs.

for 12 years, where she worked in the Signal Corps
and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2003, 2008 and
2010. In 2013 she moved to CFB Kingston where
she currently works as an army communications
and information systems specialist at the Canadian
Forces School of Communication and Electronics.
Over the past several years she has been studying
online towards a university degree.
Her interest in women’s issues led to her being
sent to a conference on Women in the Armed
Forces at CFB Gagetown, and a United Nations
event on Women and War in Instanbul, Turkey.
As an athelete, Hawes has proven herself time
and time again. She has completed a marathon and
multiple half-marathons, and participated in the
50-kilometre Iron Warrior race at CFB Petawawa
