COURSE POLICIES
Lectures:
Workshops:
1. There will be a workshop each week. See last page for schedule.
2. Attendance will not be taken.
3. Workshops are for reviewing lecture material and increasing critical thinking/analysis.
4. Workshop Assignments (see below) will be assigned during and due in the same workshop.
Workshop Assignments:
1. These will be provided and completed in workshop. No exceptions. Any assignment submitted late will not be
accepted.
2. There will be two - four questions to complete.
3. Papers will be graded in elearning. Any question about grading must be directed to the graduate TA and
discussed within 7 days of receiving your score. After 7 days, you score is final for that assignment.
4. The questions will be short answer and short essay and are intended to increase retention and application of
the material.
5. These assignments can be discussed collaboratively with other students but must contain unique work.
6. Each workshop paper will be worth twenty (20) points.
7. Your final grade will drop the lowest two (2) scores.
Pre-lecture Assessments:
1. Assessments will be assigned each week and found in the “Pre Assessment” folder.
2. Each assessment is worth five (5) points. The full points are awarded if you complete the assessment and
submit it by the due date. Your points are not based on how many questions you answered correctly, just if you
completed the full question set. Partially completed question sets will receive no points.
3. Assessments will be completed and submitted in eLearning. The assessment is not timed. Only one submission
is allowed. Estimated time to complete each assessment is 10 minutes.
4. Assessments are due on Sunday at 11:59pm. Due date and time will be shown in eLearning.

5. The lowest two (2) assessment scores will be dropped from your final grade.
6. If you incur any technical difficulties, you can contact me to resolve the issue. All such requests must be
submitted to me via email and prior to Saturday 11:59pm. I will not fix any technical issues on the day the
homework is due. In other words, do not wait until the last day to complete the assessment.
Homeworks:
1. Homework will be assigned each week and found in the “Homework” folder in elearning..
2. Each homework is worth twenty (20) points. You will have three attempts at the homework questions. The best
score of the three attempts will record. Full points will be awarded if you get 85% or better on the homework
and submit it by the due date. If you forget to submit the questions, the software will automatically submit it for
you once the deadline is past.
3. Homework will be accessed via eLearning and submitted using the Mindtap Cengage program. Due dates will
be shown and correlate. The homework is not timed. You may work on it in parts and save it as you go.
Estimated time to complete each homework is 30-45 minutes.
4. The lowest two (2) homework scores will be dropped from your final grade.
5. Homeworks are each Sunday at 11:59pm. Due date and time will be shown in elearning/Mindtap/Cengage.
6. Please make sure to access the homework using elearning and DO NOT log directly into Cengage. This will
cause your grade to not record properly.
7. If you incur any technical difficulties, you can contact me to resolve the issue. All such requests must be
submitted to me via email and prior to Saturday 11:59pm. I will not fix any technical issues on the day the
homework is due. In other words, do not wait until the last day to complete the homework.
Quizzes:
1. All quizzes will be given in eLearning. Look for folder “quizzes” on left-hand side of course homepage.
2. Quizzes will be posted on Thursdays and cover the material from that week’s lectures.
3. Quizzes are due by the following Sunday 11:59pm. Due date and time will be shown in
elearning/Mindtap/Cengage. This means you will two-three days to review that week’s lecture material and take
the quiz.
4. Each quiz will be twenty (20) questions of multiple choice, fill-in the blank, T/F and mix-and-match styles.
5. Each question is worth 1 point.
6. You will have one (1) attempt for each quiz, so be prepared to take it once you start.
7. You will have twelve (12) mins to complete the quiz.
8. There are no makeup quizzes. No exceptions. Any missed quiz will count as a zero (0).
9. If you incur any technical difficulties, you can contact me to resolve the issue. All such requests must be
submitted to me via email and prior to Monday 11:59pm. I will not fix any technical issues on the day the quiz is
due. In other words, do not wait until the last day to take the quiz.
10. Your final grade will drop the lowest two (2) quiz scores.
Exams:
GRADING POLICY
1. You will receive the same letter grade for both BIOL 2312 and BIOL 2112.
2. Grades for the course will be calculated as follows:

4. Your final grade will be the total points earned divided by the “TOTAL POINTS POSSIBLE” amount shown
above. This percentage will be rounded to the nearest integer, e.g., 89.5 = 90; 89.49 = 89.
5. Your final letter grade will based on the percentage of total points earned.
6. Grades are determined based only on course performance. Grades are not based on need or effort. No points
or fraction of a point will be awarded to increase to the next letter grade. NO EXCEPTIONS.
7. I do not curve grades. Do not ask, beg, cry or plead.
8. In compliance with FERPA, grades and/or grade information will not be given to anyone other than the student
and will not be discussed over the phone or emails.
