NARRATIVE REPORT

ACTIVITY TITLE: PANTAS Redefine: Warriors Heart Revealed

DATE: January 30-March 1, 2017

VENUES: Luis Hora Gymnasium and IFSU Review Center

PARTICIPANTS: IFSU Students

NARRATION OF ACTIVITY:
On various dates, from January 30-March 1, 2017, the HYPHEN
CREATIVES, conducted a seminar entitled PANTAS Redefine: Warriors Heart
Revealed held at the Ifugao State University Review Center and Cong. Luis Hora
Gymnasium. In the attendance, there were a total of 420 students, composed of
students from the different colleges, 78 from Arts and Sciences, 87 from
Computing Sciences, 71 from Criminal Justice Education, 135 from Agriculture
and Home Sciences, and 50 from Education, respectively.

The Hyphen Creatives is a social enterprise which provides alternative

learning programs that aims to usher students to be global learners, unleash their
creativity and enhance their appreciation for their roots through artistic
storytelling.

Mr. Victor Lloyd DG. Manuel, Chief Creative Officer of Hyphen Creatives,
served as the resource speaker for the said event who spoke on Rizal’s Journey,
Asian History, Filipino culture, search for identity, globalization, technological
advancement and the challenges facing the youth in order to adapt with the
fast-pace changing society.

After each seminar, participants were encouraged to ask questions to the

speaker and vice versa. The participants were also given an evaluation sheet to
evaluate the success of the said event. In addition, the seminar has an offshoot
which is to organize a theater group of IFSU from interested students who are
willing to undergo workshops.
Also, representatives from the different colleges gave their own
reflection/insights on the seminar:

Daryl Robles & April Ann Dulnuan—CCS

Technologies nowadays are advanced and fast improving. More games

and applications were developed and other social sites. Technologies are good
and very useful, but when we over use it then it is not good. The effect of overusing
technologies is that we lost our high touch. We forgot our family chats and
bondings. Instead of sharing stories with them, we locked ourselves in our room
and spend our time with facebook, twitter, instagram and Youtube. Filipino
People are shallow comparing with the Filipinos before, they are smart and has
humanity but look at what is happening today? It is because we forgot our history.
As Sir Viel said, Victory is present over the past. We help people but there is an
exchange and that exchange is higher than the help and that’s how shallow the
Filipinos are.

The speaker left students a challenge. Go beyond your limitation and be

creative. Remember when you were a kid, you used to imagine many things.
Remember those successful people who did not finish their study degree but they
were known by their great invention. Some of them were Bill Gates, Steve Jobs
and Mark Zuckerberg. Young Filipino people, Love your family because they are
the real country.

The seminar was very different, so I came to say that “it’s better than in the
classroom”. It was very interesting and I learned a lot from it even if I was like "huh?
t0too?an0 bang natutunan ko sa mga nagdaang taon?" To sum it up, that
seminar was my eye-opener to the facts and reality on certain important issues.
Moreover, the seminar made me realize lot of things like patriotism for my
homeland and kn0wledge on my very own history (which made up my identity).
Those matters inspired me to learn more on important relevant things-one is
history. Then came the theater, my first step to the bigger picture of the world.

At first, we're expecting much about the seminar, if it's like some other
seminars I’ve attended and I felt bored like the speaker just talk and talk, but as it
goes on it is a big "wow" the speaker is very excellent in catching the attention of
the audience for it made all the student to be always with what he is talking. The
interaction is there. Furthermore, throughout the activity all the topics were about
the youth. It is the things that we assume that we all know about ourselves and
origin-the identity but we're just a great pretender in our own land. We don't really
know the whole truth, we don't see the whole picture.

The speaker is not an Ifugao but he speaks how great the Ifugao people
are. We don’t appreciate our own and it has to be other people for us to say that
ahhh we are the real people. Therefore, the activity is a culminating one, a very
successful and for me it's my first real experience of a true seminar because I’ve
understand the objectives of it and now I swear to be committed in our Theather
Group. “Your identity belongs to you so it’s up to you to make it worth."

pa. Sa pangkalahatan, excellent ang nagging resulta ng seminar sa kabila ng
mga hindi maiwasang problema.

I really appreciate the seminar especially the speaker, he is passionate and

he mastered his presentations to make sure that the participants will listen to him
and understand what he is saying. The seminar fed my brain, my heart and my
emotion, so I’m very thankful for them and hoping that they will continue their
good work.

Viceane Feby T. Dulnuan—CAS

The seminar served as a challenge and inspiration for me as a citizen of the

Republic of the Philippines, as a student leader and as a Political Science student.
To be creative, competitive, innovative and responsible individual to help our
community developed and to be known in the Asian Region.

For the life of Rizal, since we’ve finished it already, I have learned more
about Rizal’s Journey and he’s contribution to the Philippine society. The speaker
also discussed the role of the different heroes like Antonio Luna, Andres Bonifacio,
and Emilio Aguinaldo, from thereon, it served as an additional knowledge and
some past teachings were corrected.

Hachelle A. Gano—CAS

I’m curious about the seminar when they told us that we will be attending
a PANTAS seminar, I don’t have any idea about it but I want to know what it is all
about. I came to know that the topic is all about Asian History, Rizal’s contribution
and Globalization which gave me more interest to listened and learned. I can’t
compare this from the other seminars that I’ve attended but I can say that this
seminar is very helpful and very important in my life as it gave me additional
knowledge. I was able to learn lessons which I didn’t encounter yet in our
classroom.

I really appreciate our guest speaker for he is very passionate and I can
feel the love he felt for our country. Our resource speaker challenge us to be more
creative as we are still young, to be more competitive in our chosen course, and
to become a part of the solution to the problem of our country. The seminar is
very challenging as it opened my eyes in reality and as a citizen of the Philippines,
I should be a part for a better change and it needed an action from us.

The seminar inspired me to share what I learned and that pushed us to

conduct a seminar entitled ORIENTAL EDGES for Political Science students which I
believed that will helped us in our journey in life.

However, despite the strong recommendation of Dr. Diosdado M. Aquino,

Campus Executive Director, to the college deans and faculty members there was
a low turnout of participants due to lack of support or encouragement.

In summary, the seminar served as an eye-opener that the world is vastly

different from that of 50 years ago; for there is an acceleration of change,
increasing globalization, advances in technology, and array of increasingly
complex social and environmental issues. Additionally, it awakened this
generation’s national consciousness by reminding that we are heroic people with
a revolutionary spirit.
Therefore, based from the overall impact of the seminar, we highly
recommend that all the deans and faculty members shall encourage their
students to attend the next PANTAS Series as part of their lesson, in order for them
to be aware and enlightened on the past and present events.
