PERI VARIO Girder Wall Formwork
The versatile girder wall formwork, customized and assembled
specially for each project:
Type and size of plywood – depends on finish & repetition
Element width and heights – as per Architect's requirement
Horizontal & Vertical tie spacing – as per Architect's requirement
Permissible fresh concrete pressure – Whether SCC?
Straight & curved walls can be formed with VARIO

REC Delhi, Challenges to be overcome
The typical pattern is 1200 x 2400 whereas in India standard plywood size is 1220 x 2440. These standard plywood
sheets need to be machine cut before VARIO shutter panel assembly.
In few situations, the pattern is 1268 x 2400 which is higher than the standard plywood size. In these case plywood is to
be specially sourced (which is difficult).
Height of basement-2 is 4.8m and basement-1 is 4.5m. Plywood needs to be changed when shutter moves from
basement 2 to 1 to match the patterns.

Operations Details
Rebar spacers
Sufficient spacers to ensure required concrete cover
Prevent deep imprints in the plywood surface
Fibre cement spacers are preferred
35
Operations Details
Striking
Time for striking
As early as possible to get an uniform, bright grey
Concrete strength 10 – 15 N/mm²
Strike panels always two and two (both sides).
A gap between concrete and formwork
generates condensation
Strike all panels of one wall / slab continuously
36
Operations Details
Curing
Start curing immediately after striking
Foils (curing membranes) should not touch the concrete surface
Avoid draughts
Architectural concrete: Expose concrete surface
to the open air if possible
Never cure with water (visible CaCO3)
Apply same type and time of curing for whole
structural member
Never use curing sprays
38
Operations Details
Release agent
Purpose: To prevent sticking of concrete on the formlining surface
The type of release agent to be used is determined by
the type of formlining (rough boards, phenolic resin, plastic formlining …)
the concrete admixture
For architectural concrete finish always
concrete admixture
always have to be tested until a
plywood
suitable release agent is found
release agent
Wrong release agent: might cause a lot of pores, sanding concrete surface,
different grey shady finish (extremely “cloudy”)
39
Concrete
Placing concrete
Employ skilled concreting gang
Drop height of concrete < 1.50 m
Better: Insert hose (Tremie pipes) into already poured concrete
Concrete layers 0.30 – 0.50 m
Don„t pour towards the formwork
Regular supply with concrete, no breaks
Check slump of each mix-truck

PERI India‟s initiative to educate working staff at site with correct formwork
knowledge is lead by National Project Co-ordinator.
The workshop provides an opportunity to get in dialogue with Site Team who
actually use PERI Systems.
PERI received a positive feed-back about this initiative from clients and thus
becoming a practice at every project site.
