Learning Outcomes [ASSURE (State Objectives)]
Cognitive Development
Children who are at 60-72 months of age (Audience) will learn at least 95 percent (degree) of
how to focus on object / situation / event, observe objects or entities, and will learn to measure
objects. (behaviour) when the math activity begins accompanied with art section.
Instructional Materials & Media [ASSURE (Select Strategies, Technology, Media and
Materials)
Prezi slide, GoConqr concept map, Solar system pictures on A4 such as Sun, Mercury, Venus,
Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, 9 balloons in different size, glue, paint brush,
newspapers, water color, and 9 sheets including some instructions.
Learning-Teaching Methods [ASSURE (Select Strategies, Technology, Media and
Materials)]
Child-centered activity.
Reinforcing-Co-constructing
Teaching Activities [ASSURE (Utilize Technology, Media, and Materials and Require
Learner Participation)]
After all of the planets are formed, teacher shows them from the computer a concept map
related with the solar system to talk about process of all activity by asking assessment
questions.
Summary
Teacher comes to the classroom and starts to sing a song by beating out with his/her hands.
Teacher says “Domates adam, Domates adam, ellerini kaldırmış öylece kalmış!”. Then
teacher stops and waits for keeping the silence and s/he continues the song by beating out
with his/her hands again “Domates adam, domates adam sandalyesine oturmuş öylece
kalmış!” Then teacher stops and waits for sitting and keeping the silence and s/he continues
the song by beating out with his/her hands again “Domates adam, domates adam gözlerini
kapatmış öylece kalmış!” After children close their eyes, teacher says “domates adam,
domates adam gözlerini açmış öğretmene bakmış” Then, teacher asks children that “kids, I
wonder that are you curious about space?” After given enough time to think and guess,
teacher listens all answers. Then, teacher asks again “Ok, kids, so what is there in
space?” Teacher gives enough time to think and guess, then she directs children to give Mars,
Jupiter, Solar System, Sun, etc. answers. Then, teacher asks again “how did space, solar
system, or planet come into exist?” After given enough time to think and guess, teacher
listens all answers. After short conversation, teacher says that “OK kids, you all gave different
answers. Let’s look the video and learn what inside is space” Teacher opens a video about
space on YouTube. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yitfGk_sSeA . In
some part, teacher stops the video, and asks children “kids, which planet is it? what color is
it? which one of them is small/big? Which one is the closest/farthest to the sun?” After the
video, children are directed to talk about what they watch. Then, teacher says “Kids, I brought
to you some materials to understand solar system, so we’ll make one of the Solar System by
using balloon, glue, brush, water color, and newspapers with one friend. When I say
‘patates’, you make a group with one friend”. Before saying this, teacher prepares solar
system’s picture on A4 paper. Then, teacher contributes one picture of solar system to one
group. After children take the picture, teacher asks them “what planet of solar system did you
take? Which color is on it? What do you know about?” In that process, teacher gives them
little guidance when they are talking. After that, teacher says “patates”, children make a
group. Then, all children start to create one of solar system that given in that picture. Before
that, teacher blows up the balloons in different size. According the solar system’s size, teacher
contributes that balloons to children. After taking balloons, children start to tear the
newspaper and glue them on the balloon. Then, children start to draw newspaper on the
balloon with water color like in the picture that given. After that, teacher starts to make a
conversation about art activity so that children’s work can get dry easily. In that part, teacher
can ask children;
Which planet did you make? What properties do your planet have? Is it small, big, or
closest/farthest the sun? After that questions, teacher passes to the math activity with a sing a
song to draw children’s attention and prepare them to the math activity. Teacher
says “Gezegenimi yaptım, gezegenimi yaptım. Önce yapıştırdım sonra boyadım. Güneş,
merkür, venüs, dünya, hepsini biz boyadık. Mars, jüpiter, satürn, üranüs, neptün sırasını
unutmadık.” After the song, teacher and children go outside if children’s wear is available for
the weather. Or, all class can go to the common field of the school. In that part, teacher gives
different papers to all group in total 9 paper. The papers show distance between planets. For
example, there are 3 steps between Sun and Mercury, there are 8 steps between Sun and
Venus. After given the papers, teacher asks children “kids, what do you see on the sheet?
What we should do?” Teacher allows children understand the instruction on the sheet. After
that activity, teacher passes to the assessment part.
Measurement & Evaluation
Teacher asks assessment questions to the children to evaluate the learning process.
Descriptive Questions
Which planets are on the Solar System? Which planet is the closest/farthest to Sun?
Affective Questions
If you were a planet, what planet would you be, what planet would you look like? Is the world
closer or closer to the world? Which parts did you have difficulty in most?
Questions about Objectives and Indicators
What properties such as colors, size, distance to the sun do your planet have? What else can
we use to make planet instead of balloon and newspapers?
Daily Life Questions
Can you see the planets while you are looking the sky?
Measurement & Assessment Activities for Individual Performance
Children draw what can understand in their own paper individually.
Measurement & Assessment Activities for Group Performance
As a group of 4 children, they are expected to create one planet with different waste materials
then to hang on the Wall as documentation process.
Explanation regarding to the implementation of the plan
If things do not go as planned, we can give this activity to parents for making at home with
their children. First, they watch the presentation as we prepared, then they talk about the solar
system with their children.
