CHAPTER I
1.1. Background
Procedure text is a text that is designed to describe how
something is achived through a sequence of actions steps. It
explains how people perform different processes in a
sequence of steps. This text is uses simple present tense, often
imperative sentences. It also uses the temporal conjunction
such as first, second, then, next, finally,etc.
The generic structures of procedure text are :
Goal/aim (or title)
Material (not required for all procedural text)
Steps (the actions that must be taken)

PROCEDURE TEXT
2.1 The Definition of Procedure Text
Procedural / Instructional Text is one of the descriptive
text to make or do something.
Something can be meaningful goods, food, clothing, or
tutorial, a small example like How to Make Spicy chicken,
How Frying Eggs. How to Turn off the computer, and many
other ways that you can pour in the text of this procedure.
Text procedure we often do in our daily activities, but
never in writting, only orraly. However, armed with the
knowledge and never have done, then Text Procedure be one
of the things easier for you.
The text can be interpreted the definition of the
procedure is that a text that tells readers about how to make or
do something. This information is presented in a logical
sequence, which will be broken down into several steps.
2.2 Purpose of Procedure Text
The purpose of procedure text is to tell the reader how to
do or make something. The information is presented in a
logical sequence of events which is broken up into small
sequenced steps. These text are usually written in the present
tense. The most common example of a procedural text is a
recipe.
2.3 Language Features of Procedural Text
- Use adverbial of sequence / Using temporal conjunction
(e.g: first, second, third, the last)
- Use command / imperative sentence (e.g: put the shoes
on the..., cut the chicken....., wash the shoes....)
- Using action verb
- Using Simple Present Tense
2.4 Generic Structure of Procedure Text
- Goal : it is containt the purpose of the text. (e.g : How
to make spicy chicken)
- Material or Ingredient : it is containt of the materials
that used in the process. (e.g : the material to cook fish are oil,
fish, etc.)
- Step : it is containt of the steps to make something in
the goal. (e.g : first, wash the tomatoes, onion,...., second cut
the the onions becomes slice...)

2.5 The Function of Procedure Text


The purpose of this text procedure itself is to help us by
directing / provide measures so that we can achieve the goals
/ objective predetermined.
In making a procedure text in English we usually use the
command line with the simple present tense. In addition, at
each step are given, it also commonly used as a temporal
conjunction : first, second, next, finally, and so forth.
2.6 Example of Procedure Text
How to Make a Sandwich
The materials:
Some slices of bread
Butter
Chocolate sprinkle
A banana
Honey
The steps are:
1. First, take 2 slices of bread.
2. Second, dab of butter.
3. Third, cut up a banana into small slices
4. Next, put them on one of the bread.
5. After that, pour chocolate sprinkle and honey over the
bananas.
6. Then, put the other slice of bread on top.
7. Finally, the sandwich are ready to be served

3.1 The result of the writers procedure text :
HOW TO MAKE STATIONARY BOX WITH STICK
ICE CREAM
What you need :
1. Stick ice cream
2. Glue
3. Cotton bud
4. scissor
5. strap (decorate only)
The steps :
1. First, create the surface as much as 8 stick with glue
2. Second, stack stick around the surface as much as 4 in
opposite directions
3. If it is formed, do as much as possible to high
4. Then, box of stationary you’ve finished
5. Decorate according to your taste

3.2 Conclusion
Procedure text is a text to describe how something
is accomplished through a sequence of steps. There are 3
generic structures of procedure text, they are goal,
materials or ingredients, and steps.
The language features used in Procedure Text are :
- In the procedure text, we use SIMPLE PRESENT
TENSE:
A. Use of imperatives (e.g : cut, dont mix)
B. Use of action verbs (e.g : turn, put, mix)
C. Use of connectives (e.g : first, then, finally)
D. Use of adverbial phrases (e.g : for five minutes, 2
centimeters from the top)
- Use mainly temporal conjunctions (or numbering to
indicate sequence), such as first, second
- Use of material processes.
- Focus on generalized human agents.

3.3 Closing

At last, this paper that we made. In the arrangement


of this paper, we realize that there are many weaknesses
and mistakes because our lack of knowledge and
references. Therefore, we do hope that the readers are
able to give many benefical critics and suggestions. So
that, we can make this paper better for the nest
opportunity.
