Mechanical Assembly

Various fastening methods are used in mechanical assembly to mechanically attach two or more
parts together. Usually fasteners are used, being added on during the assembly operation.
Sometimes, however, fastening involves the shaping of one of the components being assembled
without the need of separate fasteners. Mechanical fastening can be divided into methods that
allow for easy disassembly, threaded fasteners, and those that do not, rivets.

Welding

In the welding process, two or more parts are heated and melted or forced together, causing the
joined parts to function as one. In some welding methods a filler material is added to make the
merging of the materials easier. There are many different types of welding operations, such as
the various arc welding, resistance welding and oxy fuel gas welding methods. These will not be
covered in this introduction, however.

Parts in the order of the assembly.

1. handle bar
2. steel rod
3. valve
4. metal cap
5. main tube
6. metal base
7. foot pedal
8. hose

Assembling process
Before start assembly check all the components are in correct dimension and there are no defects
on it.
• The steel rod has thread on both ends. so insert the rod into the handle, there is a hole
provided to insert the rod and use the nut to tight the rod with the handle.
• Then insert the rod into the spring and the metal cap (there is a hole in the middle of the
metal cap).
• On the other end of the rod place the valve, washer and tight using the nut.
• After that insert the metal rod into the main tube.
• The main tube also have thread so attach the base metal and metal cap with the main
tube.
• Then attach the foot pedal with the base metal using screw and nut.
• then attach the hose with the base metal.
• after finishing the assembly check it again is there any defects occurs during in the
assembly process
• Finally do a trial if the produce is working properly or not.

In here we don’t use any rivet joints. We use welding and screw and nuts to make this assembly.
Because in the rivet joints it is difficult to remove in again. In the bicycle pump the rubber valve
has no longer life time. Because due to the friction the rubber will erase. So the thread and nuts
are easily remove and change the rubber valve again.
We use two weld joints in here. one is in between the handle and the nut and the other is in
between the metal base and the foot pedal joint. We use electrode arc welding to joint these
parts. Because it is easy to joint the part quickly.

ELECTRODE ARC WELDING

Coated electrode arc welding is a manual arc welding method where the heat necessary for the
welding is generated by the arc formed between a coated wasting electrode and the workpiece.
Electrode's tip, welding bath, arc and the areas of the workpiece near to the welding machine are
protected against the hazardous impact of the atmosphere by the gases formed as a result of
burning and separation of the coating material. The slag formed by the melted coating material
provides additional protection for the melted welding metal in welding bath. The additional
metal (filler metal) is supplied by the core wire of the wasting electrode and the metal dust in
electrode coating in some electrodes.

The coated electrode arc welding is the most commonly used welding method in connection of
the metals due to its benefits.

Benefits

1. The coated electrode arc welding may be performed in both indoor and outdoor areas.
2. It is possible to weld at any point and position that may be reached with electrode.
3. It is possible to weld in restricted and narrow areas that are not accessible with other welding
methods.
4. Welding on distant connections is possible since the tips of the power supply of the welding
machine may be extended.
5. The welding equipment are lightweight and portable.
6. Different types of coated electrode that are suitable for chemical and mechanical properties of
many materials are available. Therefore the welded connections may also have the same
properties of the main material.
