Curricular objective/s: Students will be able to blend CVC words and identify in particular the beginning letter and sound of the word with 90%
accuracy when playing “Showdown”.
Curricular assessment: When given a CVC word, students will be able to write down the beginning letter of that word.
Language objective: When called upon, students will be able to verbally state their answers clearly.
Language assessment: Throughout the lesson students will be asked to state their answers in front of the other students.

Game board, dice, game pieces, sheet explaining what letter each number on the dice corresponds with, whiteboards, markers, race tracks, list of

Accommodations: For students in lower groups, say words more slowly for “Showdown” so they can hear the sounds better.

Explain rules of board game:

1. Student rolls dice. Each number on the dice corresponds to a certain letter.
2. Student finds which letter corresponds to their number.
3. Students find the closest picture of a CVC word to their piece that starts with the letter they rolled.
4. Students take turns, starting with the student on the left and moving to the right (their left).
