INTRODUCTION & SCOPE OF WORKS:


1.1. This specification tells about the requirement of telecom antenna mounting structures, i.e.,
monopoles, self-support lattice towers
1.2. Following are the scope of works for which this specification is made for,
- Supply and installation of Monopole
- Supply and installation of self-support lattice towers
- Supply & installation of Aircraft Warning Light

1.3. In case installation only is carried out by the Contractor for any item, the cost of installation should
include withdrawing the item from client stores and delivering it to respective sites.

1.4. Client shall advise the detail of sites and their locations, as and when the requirement of works
arises. Size of plots ranges between 8x8m to 15x15m, distributed all over UAE (except oil field
areas & Islands).

2.1. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR MONOPOLES:


2.1.1. SCOPE OF WORK,
- Contractor shall design Monopoles of heights 30m & 40m conforming to technical specifications
detailed below. Design & fabrication drawings shall be submitted for review by client.
Monopole fabrication shall start only after client accords written approval.
- Contractor shall design the foundation for monopole, based on soil investigation report.
Contractor is free to adopt either isolated raft foundation or pile foundation. Only bored piles
shall be accepted. If raft foundation is used, the same to be protected using 4mm thick torch
applied membrane. 3.2mm thick protection board to be used on vertical surfaces and 50mm
screed on horizontal surfaces over the membrane.
- After 7 days curing period, Contractor shall install the monopole. ACWL shall be fixed at
monopole top.
- After monopole verticality is ensured, Contractor shall grout the base.

2.1.2. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION,


- The term ‘Monopole’ shall imply Monopole structure, including all accessories.
- Accessories for one Monopole shall comprise the following:
 One set of anchor bolts with nuts, washers and top & bottom templates.
 One safety climbing system, complete with climbing hook.
 One hexagonal/round platform cage comprising two sets of platforms, gratings or checkered
plate, toe guards and handrails.
 Twelve (12) vertical pipes of diameter 88.9mm and length 6m.
 Hand hole covers as required for each feeder opening.
 Hot dip galvanization and painting of above items.
 One copper lightning finial rod of length as required by design.
 Copper tape of size 25mm x 3mm of length as per design .

A.1 Structure type 30m & 40m height, free standing

A.2 Steel grade Mild steel or high tensile steel, conforming to relevant ASTM
standards. Or European code, Mild steel shall be S275,S235 or A36
High tensile shall be S355 or ASTM 572 Grade 50
All steel works shall comply with structural loading study

requirements and the structural steel specifications and the


international standard for manufacturing premises.

A.3 Design parameters Design code TIA-222G/H (Latest version to be used) Structure
Class II, Exposure Category C, Topographic Category 1, Risk
Category II.
All drag coefficient according to code shall be considered on the
equipment provided by client
Step-by-step well documented design calculations shall be
submitted, clearly depicting calculations for meeting strength and
stability considerations.

A.4 Basic wind speed 160kmph, 3 second gust

A.5 Max. Tilt/Twist 1 degree at operational wind speed 110kmph.

A.6 Climbing system Anti-fall safety climbing cable system to be provided over the entire
length of structure.
Approved make: Protecta /DB SALA. Cable diameter shall be
9.2mm to 9.5mm.
Recommended anti fall system to be ladder with rail system starting
from bottom to the top of monopoles (full safety wire system
including required fixation brackets and guide plates with max
intervals = 4m)

A.7 Galvanization Steel members shall be hot dip zinc galvanized to 100 microns as
per ASTM A123.
All Hardware (nuts, bolts, washers, etc.) shall be hot dip galvanized
to in accordance with ASTM 123.

A.8 Painting Epoxy paint of DFT 100 microns.


Paint shade: White, RAL9010 (type of painting: Hempel)

A.9 Guarantees Useful life guarantee of structure: 20 years


Corrosion guarantee: 10 years for main steel.
Paint guarantee: 5 years against fading / peeling.
A.10 Environment Extremely saline and humid atmosphere, with ambient temperature
ranging from 0 to 55oC. Humidity up to 100%.
A.11 Antenna loading Available upon request.

A.12 Antenna mounting Two circular platforms, 2.5 m diameter - one at 1m from top of
arrangement monopole & the other at 4m from top. Flooring shall consist of
gratings bolted onto platform frame. Protection shall be
provided by 2 toe guards & 4 handrails. Only bolted
connections shall be provided. Platform elevation are subject to
client approval
A.13 Cable inlet 3 openings for each platform. Size 600mm x 300mm each. Invert
level of openings shall be 100mm above platform level.
Adequate number of J-hooks shall be provided inside the pole,
at invert level of cable inlets.

A.14 Cable outlet 3 openings of size 650mm x 300mm, invert level at 1m to 2.5m
from base.
A.15 Lightning finial A pipe/angle of length 2m, shall be fixed on pole cap at top. Or as
suitable by electrical design
Fixation accessories (isolators) of copper strip should be along of
monopole external body.
A.16 ACWL mounting plate Suitable plate shall be fixed on pole cap to allow installation of
ACWL (Aircraft Warning Light).
A.17 Aircraft Warning Light A reliable system should be included on the structure without
(ACWL) affecting the maximum loading capability, and functionality of
the structure.
ACWL systems shall meet the requirements of ICAO and local
civil aviation authorities. These systems will be complete in all
respects including hardware
A.18 Nuts/bolts/washers All bolts shall be in accordance with ASTM 325 and each supplied
complete with double nuts, single coil spring washer and plain
washer.
A.19 Anchor Bolts As per Design requirements (Base plate welding shall confirm to
ASTM standards)

A.18 Design preference It is highly recommended to go with higher thicknesses rather than
increasing diameter where necessary by the strength
requirement in order to to cost effective in civil work.

A.19 General No Chinses nor Indian manufacturer allowed.

A.20 Climbing Step Bolts Step bolts with a size M16 stud bolt shall be used for climbing.

2.2. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR SELF-SUPPORT LATTICE TOWER:

B.1 Structure type 50m to 100m height, free standing lattice tower.
Tubular members are not allowed.
Up to 90m tower, strictly has to be 3 legged tower, with 60 deg bent
angle (schifflerized).
100m tower square tower is allowed.

B.2 Steel grade Mild steel or high tensile steel, conforming to relevant ASTM
standards or European Code.

B.3 Design parameters Design code TIA-222G/H (Latest version to be used.). Structure
Class II, Exposure Category C, Topographic Category 1, Risk
Category II.
All drag coefficient according to code shall be considered on the
equipment provided by client

Safety rail with a carriage is also accepted provided that it does
comply to international safety code.

B.7 Climbing ladder and Ladders should be constructed as per BS 4211.

All lattice towersshall be equipped with a climbing ladder. The
ladder shall fulfill the following requirements:
Minimum width of 400 mm min.
Minimum rung diameter of 20 mm.

300 mm riser.
Minimum 150 mm shoe clearance behind steps.
Step capacity to carry a 1 KN concentrated force on the middle of
step.

B.7 Galvanization Steel members shall be hot dip zinc galvanized to 100 microns as
per ASTM A123.
All hardware (nuts, bolts, washers, etc.) shall be hot dip galvanized
to ASTM 123

B.8 Painting Tower shall be Painted as per ICOA requirement to 150 microns

B.11 Rest platforms At 15m spacing. Platforms shall be complete with hand rail, knee
rail and toe guard. Hand rail systems must be sturdy enough for safe
latching of personal safety equipment. Flooring shall be
grating/Checkered plate type.
Rest platform shall be placed next to the climbing ladder at every
15m. Rest platform shall be able to carry the 2KN concentrated
load), to surround the cable well and ladder complete with hand and
knee rails and toe slip guards, handrail shall comply with OSHA
1910.23, 1910.24. Flooring shall be of the open mesh variety and
shall include an open area for the continuation of the access ladder
at all heights. The working & rest platforms shall be in full
accordance with BS 4211 and must be fitted with appropriate fall
prevention trapdoors.

B.12 Working platforms At top levels

B.14 Lightning support pipe A pipe of length 4m, diameter 75mm shall be fixed on tower top.
Fixation accessories of copper strip should be along tower external
body.

B.15 ACWL mounting plate Suitable plate shall be fixed on tower cap to allow installation of
ACWL (Aircraft Warning Light).

B.19 Aircraft Warning Light A reliable system should be included on the structure without
(ACWL) affecting the maximum loading capability, and functionality of the
structure.
ACWL systems shall meet the requirements of ICAO and local civil
aviation authorities. These systems will be complete in all respects
including hardware
