J
une is lesbian, gay, bisexual,
transgender and queer
(LGBTQ) Pride Month, when
people across the country take a stance
against discrimination by celebrating
with various events during the month.
Doraville City Council Member
Stephe Koontz told The Champion
about several LGBTQ topics, including
the city’s first Doraville Pride movie
night and pool party scheduled for
July 27 at Flowers Park─5921 New
Peachtree Road in Doraville─ starting
at 7:30 p.m. The event will feature the
movie Love Simon and food will be
provided.
“We are still a very repressed
segment of society and for a lot of
people it takes a lot of courage to just
be out as an open LGBTQ person,”
Koontz said. “I think having pride in
who we are and being able to celebrate
that is important. And for me personally
seeing how much persecution and hate
is still being thrown at our community,
I think it’s important to stand up for
who we are and show that we’re not
ashamed of being who we are.”
Koontz is the first transgender
person to win an election in the state of
Georgia.

has tentatively adopted a
millage rate that would
increase property taxes for
residents.
The council
unanimously voted June
4 to adopt the proposed
2019 millage rate of 15.89
mills, which is an increase

Community Improvement District (“CID”) reports that at its meeting
on June 24, 2019, beginning at 2:30 p.m. at 5170 Peachtree Road,

Directors will vote upon a proposal to levy an ad valorem taxation
rate of 5 mills, and will set its millage rate for the lawful purposes
of the District for the current calendar year. Set forth below is
