THE COMPLETE A GUIDE TO INSTALLATION OF LIGHT BOUY

GENERAL :

The Buoy is designed to be used as an instrumental support for AIDS TO NAVIGATION.

The Buoy design is programmed by a computer system with very accurate calculations
according to speed of currents, speed of wind, height of waves and other of data.

The Buoy is made from Polyethilene with a wall thickness of 18 mm

BUOY EQUIPMENT :

The Light Buoy has 5 parts a/o :

1. Body of Buoy
2. Tower of Buoy
3. Marine Lantern
4. Mooring Chain
5. Concrete Sinker

1. Body

The buoy body is made of Polyethilene with a thickness of 18 mm and has a round
shape with a diameter of 2,200 mm and a height of approx 3,200 mm.
The body is equipped with 2 lifting eyes and 2 mooring eyes

2. Tower

The tower is made from Polyethylene in height approx. 2,400 mm

The tower is equipped with a guard rail and a top mark.

3. Lantern

The buoy is equipped with a marine lantern, SLC 420

4. Mooring system

The anchorage of buoy uses a mooring chain, the type is stud link chain with a
diameter of 32 mm.

For one set buoy chain consists of the following:

1 Ea Three eyes plate
1 Ea Swivel piece
1 Ea Joining shackle
`
1 Ea Anchor shackle

5. Sinker

The buoy needs 1 pc of concrete block of 5 tons weight and quality of concrete
minimum K 300.

INSTALLATION OF LIGHT BUOY

Before installation work, tools such as keys, hammer, lift bar, etc should beforehand.
Then the buoy will be installed step by step.

Stage 1. Installation of Tower.

- Install the tower in its position using bolt M 14 x 150 mm ( prepared ), each tower
will need 4 bolts, please fasten tightly.

- Install the radar reflector on top of tower’s table using 3 bolts of M 10 X 50 mm.

Stage 2.

- Install the lantern SLC 420 on top using 3 bolts which you will find inside the
lantern’s foam wrapper.

Stage 3. Mooring Chain

1. Connect three eyes piece on the buoy

2. Joint the riding chain with swivel piece to three eyes piece ( monkey plate ).

3. The end of riding chain, please connect to the lifting sinker by anchor shackle.

4. Check the connection of all chain, after that the lighter buoy ready to splash down.

Stage 5. Installation of Marine Buoy At Target Location.

General Guidelines
Good seamanship and careful attention to handling the heavy equipment involved is
essentials in successfully deploying Nautilus 2200 and moorings. This section
contains recommended procedures for setting the buoy system location. If it cannot
be followed as written, the safety in handling concepts included may be applicable
to other methods of installation.

Determining Location.

The best, and easy is use DGPS.

`
When the positioning of the buoy is critical, it is recommended that several
sightings be made preferably by several different competent people with the average
taken as the correct position. If necessary, marine surveyors may be contracted to
establish the position. Also, aerial surveys may be made as a check for proper buoy
location.

Location of sinker

The installing supervisor should determine the predominant expected direction of

buoy drift. This may result from current, prevailing winds, or both. The sinker
should be set to account for expected drift. That is, set the sinker so the buoy will
drift to the location established by triangulation.

Method for Installing Buoy System.

Crew Boat Rigging

Large crew boats or work boats are frequently available for locations using an
Nautilus 2200. To use such a vessel for this task, the following steps are
recommended. (note: the vessel must have at least a 10-ton winch located aft. Or
she has vessel crane with SWL 15MT and installed chain stopper)

A. Assemble the buoy completely at the dock side with the mooring chain

B. Set the buoy in the water with the mooring chain placed on the deck and secure
the buoy to the back side of vessel. The buoy is secured by tying off fore and
aft plus securing the mooring line taut to prevent tipping of the buoy while
towing. The mooring line may be secured taut by use of a chain stopper.

C. Lay the mooring chain in long loops, back and forth, lengthwise with the boat so
that the last of chain, leading to the concrete sinker, is on top.

D. Fasten the chain to the eye of the sinker and position the sinker to the back of the
vessel.

E. Be sure all chain runs of everything – that is, be sure the sinker and buoy may be
deployed without fouling with articles on the boat.

With the vessel so rigged, the buoy is towed to the mooring site. Setting of the buoy
should always be planned during calm seas. It is difficult and dangerous to set a
buoy system in greater than 2 or 3 foot seas. Never attempt to set a buoy under

hazardous conditions such as high seas, darkness or with an insufficient or tired

crew.

Buoy Deployment
`
The object of proper deployment is to :

A. Put Sinker at side of vessel hang on by chain stopper

B. Let set of buoy deploy to the water and hold by mooring line, and connected
chain hold by temporary stopper in another position
C. Maintain set of chain in proper position.
D. Release the sinker once get fixed coordinate by positioning system
E. Let the buoy drift away from the vessel.

Never do any of the following :

A. Drop the sinker.

B. Drop the chain.

C. Let the chain run out unattended.

D. Deploy the buoy first.

E. Stand between object deployed and chain.

Always do the following:

A. Check all equipment thoroughly – be sure moorings are properly assembled,

buoy is pressure checked, aids are in working order.

B. Control the lowering of sinker and chain.

C. Stand clear of chain during deployment.

An illustration is included to show outfitting of the crew boat, and deployment using
chain stoppers and a crane. This procedure is as follows:

A. Connect chain stoppers to chain and both sides of vessel.

B. Disconnect chain stoppers.

C. Stand clear.

D. Repeat until sinker is on bottom and all chain is deployed.

Barge Rigging – Towing.

In general, rigging and development from a barge may follow the same procedures
given in the section on crew boat rigging.

As an alternate to towing, the Nautilus 2200 may be assembled and carried, on the
barge. On the barge. Of course, this necessitates the use of a crane on the barge to lift
the buoy into the water prior to commencing the development procedures outlined.
`
Never begin deployment with the buoy on the barge. Always lift the buoy off against the
barge.

Chain Stoppers.

Chain Stoppers are an invaluable aid in handling the buoy, its mooring and sinker. They
are available in several popular configurations. We recommend a chain stopper
consisting of a 1-1/8” pelican hook attached with appropriate hardware to 20 feet of ¾”
high-strength chain terminated by a devil’s claw or hook. The chain stoppers may be
used to secure the sinker by the mooring, secure the buoy mooring as part of the towing
rigging, control deployment of the sinker and moorings as described, and connect the
winch eye to the mooring for lowering of same.

Safety.

To insure safety during buoy deployment, the following rules of good practice are
applicable:
A. Installing supervisor: An installing supervisor should have complete and sole
responsibility for the installation. This should be clearly understood by all.
B. Training of crew: Each member of the buoy setting crew should know in advance
his responsibilities and tasks during the operation. He should also know the function
of the other crew members.
C. Safety officer: The Captain, or his designate, should monitor the operation for the
occurrence of hazards. Should a hazardous situation begin to develop, he is
responsible for halting the operation or initiating the appropriate action to avert the
danger.
