Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

The activity and technology tools that I have selected support my students’ learning experiences by
offering the students different forms of auditory supports such as having a lesson over how to write a
five-paragraph essay and all of the components. This includes the teacher’s lesson and also the video
and game that is included in the lesson. I also give the students the chance to get the best out of the
technology provided by allowing students to use the technical tools to enhance their learning
experience.

Lesson idea implementation: To start the video the teacher will show the students a Brainpop video
over how to write a five-paragraph essay and all of the components involved. The teacher will then
have the students play the main idea game on Brainpop in order to help the students find the main
ideas of their paragraphs throughout the essay. The teacher will then discuss topics with the students
determining what they will write their essay over. The topics will include if students prefer dogs over
cats, math or science, or fruits over vegetables and throughout the essay the students will have to tell
their readers why. Using the internet and researching using the resources the school provides, which
could include a class set of iPads or laptops, the students will use these resources in order to come up
with facts about their topic to use in their essay. After researching the students will then write their
essay on paper and after having the essay looked over by the teacher.
Reflective Practice:

I feel that the activities included in this lesson could impact student learning by giving the students
multiple sources of information to refer back to during the process of writing their essays. In order to
further extend this lesson, I would have my students’ type out their papers on the computer in order
to practice their typing skills.
