PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN 2

Abstract

In this paper, I present my professional development plan for the next five years. This

includes areas education, teaching credential progress, and other professional

development opportunities to build myself as an educator.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN 3

Professional Development Plan

My current school of employment, Escondido Charter High School has a

great professional development plan that all teachers must do every year. I learned a lot

last year about how much I learned through setting yearly goals, collaborating with

fellow teachers in and out of my department, observations, and beginning my induction

program to clear my credential. Areas I want to focus on are clearing my credential,

learning more from my peers of great educators and administrators, developing

curriculum (especially my Geometry course), and beginning to coach a school sport.

My five-year plan:

Present- July 2020:

• Complete my masters program at National University (July 2021)

• Build the Geometry curriculum to reach diverse learners and implement real

world connections through project-based learning activities.

• Finish the induction program (year 2) to clear my credential.

• Attend more extracurricular activities at my school to better establish myself with

the learning and athletic community.

• Communicate to parents and families for struggling students.

• Observe at 2-3 exceptional teachers to gain more knowledge on creating a

positive learning environment for challenging courses.

August 2020-July 2021:

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN 4

• Attend an educational workshop on implementing project-based learning in

mathematics or on illuminate (our cohesive testing software). Some examples

§ Further build Geometry curriculum by continually reflecting on daily lessons, unit

structure, and assessments for different types of learners.

§ Revisit my professional development portfolio and build and complete three

goals.

§ Observe at least 2 exceptional teachers.

August 2021-July 2022:

• Teach a new upper division math course and assess the curriculum to optimize

student success. Continue to reflect daily on success and failures.

• Revisit my professional development portfolio and build and complete three

goals.

• Attend an educational/professional development workshop.

• Read literature on best mathematics teaching practices.

• Observe at least 2 exceptional teachers

• Begin to assist a school sport.

August 2022-July 2023:

• Coach a school sport.

• Seek professional development opportunities through workshops or

peer/administration feedback.
