In Colombia, outdoor air pollution is a real problem, causing about one in 20 of all deaths in
the metropolitan areas of Bogota, Valle de Aburra and Cali. But for rural dwellers the situation
is much worse; household air pollution is responsible for an alarming 17% of all deaths. More
than one in every six deaths is caused by burning wood and solid fuels to cook food and keep
warm.
The most dangerous of the airborne particle are known as PM2.5 (particulates less than 2.5
thousandths of a millimetre across) which can penetrate deep into the lung. The World Health
Organization (WHO) has set a limit for average outdoor ambient air pollution of 10 micrograms
(10 millionth of a gram) of PM2.5 per cubic metre of air (10 µg/m3). In urban areas, the level
may be twice this, and over 60% of the Colombian population is estimated to breathe air which
is more polluted than the WHO guidelin

Types of environmental pollution
Human beings are responsible for one of the main and greatest
environmental problems, such as environmental pollution, which
alters and transforms the environment by solid, liquid and
gaseous substances or agents. Environmental pollution causes
other environmental problems that impact on the natural
environment, living beings and the quality of life of societies.
There are many types of environmental pollution and pollutants
that are distroping and destroying the quality of major
renewable natural elements such as air, water, soil, flora and
fauna.
The main types of pollution are:
1. Air or atmospheric,
the product of greenhouse gases and fossil fuels that
transform the quality of the planet's air and atmosphere.
2. OF THE Water,
the product of domestic, industrial, agricultural,
agricultural, mining, economic, social and environmental
activities that alter the quality of the planet's water bodies
by solid waste and liquid substances.
5 Acoustic or sound,
caused by any excessive noise ina particular environment which
disrupts the tranquility and harmony of living in peace.
6 Radioactive or nuclear,
produced by radioactive and nuclear substances which alter and
destroy the environment.
7 Chemical,
product of agents or chemicals that impact on living beings and
the environment.
8 Genetic,
the one that makes it possible to identify the genes of species in
an uncontrolled population or habitat.
9 Electromagnetic,
the product of electropollution by electromagnetic equipment that pollutes the
environment.
10 Biological,
that caused by virus microorganisms, fungi, bacteria and diversity of living things.
12 Light,
13 Visual,
caused by the number of advertising signs that prevent the visibility of any object ina given
location
