PROPOSED ACTION PLAN FOR THE PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED BY THE PASSENGERS OF

METRO FERRY TERMINAL

Rationale

Terminal is a single man-made facility that may have several berths, that handles vessels and possibly more

than one type of vessel or cargo. Metro Ferry terminal lacks of accessible facilities, safety and security, services

and sanitation. Port terminals are very vital to the passengers especially nowadays that people are experiencing

congestion in land transportation. Compare to the terminals outside the Philippines, unfortunately ours is far

from high-end terminals. Some of our terminals can’t cope up in the modernization era because of the lackness

of innovation and cooperation of the public sectors. So, this output came up from different issues of terminals

and to justify that this output is very helpful for the Metro Ferry Inc.

Main Objectives

 To be one of the best sea transport terminals in the Philippines.

 To promote and establish new branches of Metro Ferry Terminal within the area of the Philippines.

 To contribute to the economic well-being of the City of Cebu and Lapu-Lapu by expanding export

opportunities.

Background

The proponents of this program are the Bachelor of Science in Tourism students of University of Cebu-Banilad

composed of four (4) students who loves to travel and discover new destination. As a tourism student, we notice

that the terminal is needed to develop and improve since Metro Ferry Terminal is one of the high demand terminals

in Cebu City. With this, the researchers focused to the study entitled the Problems Encountered by the Passengers

in Metro Ferry Terminal.

As the researchers’ conducted the study, the result shows that there are problems in terminal in terms of safety

and security, facilities, services and sanitation.

The researchers proposed an action plan for two terminals of the Metro Ferry Inc. First terminal is located at Pier 3,

this terminal serves for the passengers going to the Opon, Lapu-Lapu City. Second terminal is located at Muelle Port, Opon

Lapu-Lapu City. This terminal serves for the passengers going to Cebu City or vice versa. And for the development of the

terminals, it will help and summarizes what is to be achieved by this study.

Research Environment

Metro Ferry Terminal Opon Mercado, Lapu-Lapu City. Lapu-Lapu

City which formerly known as Opon, but 1961 it is renamed in its

present name. It is geographically located in province of Cebu. The

land size of the Metro Ferry Terminal is berth 31.9 meters and

operated for almost two decades. Capt. Gaudencio Morales is the

owner of Metro Ferry Inc. with five ferry boats. Adam and Tommy

ferry boats has the capacity of 120 of passengers, Segundo has the

capacity of 130 of passengers, Carmen Uno has capacity of 160 of

passengers, and MV Princesa has the capacity of 295 passengers.

Metro Ferry boats are set ply from 0600H to 2100h every day to the

Mactan Channel as an immediate solution of the horrendous traffic

along the major roads and on the two bridges linking Mandaue City

on mainland Cebu to Lapu-Lapu City on Mactan Islands. More ferries

are set to ply the Mactan Channel as an immediate solution to the

Mactan Channel, has all eight vessels that would be fielded to serve

decongest the roads by increasing the number of vessels like ferries

and barges were plying between Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu cities.

That’s why many ferries and ferry terminals now are plying from the

Cebu City to Lapu-Lapu City and one of it is the Metro Ferry

Terminal for to some travelers and locals in which very convenient for

them to travel to their works, businesses, and schools. Metro Ferry
