TRINITY
Dear Parishioners,
Today we celebrate the Feast of the
Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy
Spirit. We are drawn into the mystery of the
life within God – the Creator, Redeemer and
Sustainer. We are welcomed into the reality
of love, gratitude and hope.
Entering into the Mystery of the Trinity
can be very daunting and off-putting. The
great theologian, Thomas Aquinas spoke of
the “misery of language” – we are trying to
convey a mystery with a very limited human
vocabulary. Even our most vivid
imaginations cannot capture the mystery of
God. In many ways we are reduced to
silence in the presence of God. Maybe that
silent prayer of awe and reverance is the
most effective of all. But for the most part,
we do not like silence – because all sorts of
sounds, words and distracting thoughts
come flooding into our minds. The mystery
of God’s magnificence and splendour gets
lost in our crowded minds.
After due contemplation let us try to
enter into the mystery of the life of God:
Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
God the Father is revealed in Jesus his
Son. As Jesus himself said to the apostles:
“To have seen me, is to have seen the Father;
Jesus is the Word of God made flesh; and
“Everything the Father has is mine” (today’s
Gospel) … “the Father and I are one”. This
BOND between Father and Son; this unity
between them, the power of this love – this
is called the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit.
We need to reflect on this truth again and
again.
Our first reading today froms the Book
of Proverbs remind us that the Trinity, the
Life of God has been there for all eternity:
“From everlasting I was firmly set … before
anything was created I was there” … what a
thought: “I was by his side, a master
craftsman, delighting him day after day, ever
at play in his presence”. Is this not what is
declared in the Nicene Creed: “Through him
all things were made ...” and note too in
today’s reading: “I was … at play,
everywhere in his world, delighting to be
with the sons of men. Imagine the Son of
God delighted tobe with human beings!
The word of St Paul adding to all that in
the 2nd reading. We have been welcomed
into this state of God’s grace – God’s
graciousness and majesty … we can boast
about the Glory of God and his goodness …
we can even boast of our sufferings! Why?
Because these sufferings bring PATIENCE;
patience brings PERSEVERANCE; and
perseverance brings HOPE – and this hope is
not deceptive – why? “Because the love of
God has been POURED into our hearts by
the Holy Spirit which has been given us!”
(Please read these words again slowly).
Here we are drawn into the very life of God,
the Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

had participated in the Camino de Santiago to

SPONSORED WALK
Fr Joe, Sr. Devy and several parishioners
were on a Camino Walk
during their pilgrimage to
Santiago Compostela 20th –26th May 2019.
Thanks to all who sponsored Fr Joe and Sr
Devy in their Camino Walk and prayed for
their safe return.
Amount raised £495 to date.
THE BIG SING GOSPEL VOICES,
make a welcome return to St John Vianney on
Sunday 16th June 2019, 6.30pm.
As winners of BBC Gospel Choir of the Year
2017, they are excited to share with us their
blend of uplifting and inspirational Gospel
music again.
Treat Dad for Father's Day. Funds raised will
go to the Parish fundraising and to The BIG
Sing SOUL - taking uplifting, inspirational and
motivational music out to the community, to
all vulnerable groups of children and adults,
to bring them the joy of singing together.

 WORLD REFUGEE DAY – 20 JUNE 2019
“LOVE KNOWS NO BORDERS”
Celebrate World Refugee Day on the UK
borders, with a day of activity in Dover!
We will commemorate those who have died
trying to get to the UK, and celebrate those
trying to welcome refugees on our borders,
finishing with a service and candle-light walk
on the white cliffs of Dover. Coach leaves St
John Vianney's West Green Road, N15 3QL
10.30am and leaves Dover to return at 8pm.

OLIVE WOOD CARVES FROM THE HOLY
LAND (BETHLEHEM)
We welcome Rana of the Good Shepherd
Company from the Holy land
(Bethlehem) which is based in Nottingham
and works alongside with St. Vincent De
Paul society for orphans and elderly in the
Holy Land next weekend, 22nd/23rd June
(after all Masses), she will be selling their
produce here from the olive
wood (rosaries, crosses, cribs and religious
statues) in their behalf.
